Yikes, this can't be good for us clothing sellers. The only thing I see that we have in our favor is offering the unique, sold out or hard to find clothing. Or cheap prices. And I won't be doing the 'cheap' thing.
Hoping I am wrong.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's time to get out of reselling clothing and become a delivery driver for Amazon/Fedex/UPS -- seems like those are the only industries with guaranteed growth.

I do not see this as any kind of competition for us eBay sellers.
-The sellers on Amazon will have no choice but to jack up the clothing prices in order to let customers keep the # of clothing to qualify for the discount. -Clothing on Amazon is new -You must be a Prime member in order to use this
Those are just the first 3 things that come to mind.

And I can't remember - but it might just be for "Prime" clothing. Did it specify which clothing is eligible?

Is this really that much different than sellers who allow returns? Except for the fact that it's free & is being marketed that way (brilliant marketing btw)?
I'm assuming that this is still just for new clothes? If so not sure if it will really affect OOAK used clothing sellers much. As a buyer, of course, it's great, but only for the brands they will carry & for new clothes. I guess we'll find out.

Marsha, I am a pessimist, lol, but I just wrote something similar to Liz, in the other thread. This is going to be for new clothes, to the best of my knowledge & I don't think will really affect the ooak used clothing buyer much. Plus it will be limited to the brands that they sell. Don't get me wrong, I think it's brilliant marketing on AMZN's part, I just don't really see it as a big impact to us.

"Prime Wardrobe aligns well with the Amazon Echo Look that takes full-length photos of you to review your day’s clothing choices and uses the Amazon StyleCheck app feature to have AI score your fashion decisions."
Anybody else find this a bit creepy and intrusive? I'm sure this is the way the future will look and the young generation growing up won't know anything else and will be fine with it all. I think I'm just too old for this scale of change (tho I'm trying desperately to keep up) and keep mentally referencing Orwell's 1984 society and Star Trek's BORG collective.

Sure, I'm cautious about some things but I refuse to let stuff like this be a deterrent for me. Being somewhat blissfully optimistic has suited me well so far 😁

It will only effect Prime sellers on Amazon. Many use FBA (fulfilled by Amazon), but even if you were a Prime seller and fulfilled yourself (FBM) you would need to be prepared for more returns and building in the shipping costs. Returns are already pretty frequent with clothing on Amazon. I sell on there, but have decided not to do Prime at this point mainly because I don't want to pay for the 2-day shipping with such a high return percentage. You ship it free (added into cost) to prime members and guarantee 2-day delivery, plus you take returns and you eat the shipping. Yes, you can add all this into your price, but Amazon is pretty competitive with pricing so you could easily price yourself out of business KWIM. There are sellers that are happy to work with a 10% profit margin! I am not one of those LOL.

Earlier this year, JackThreads, an apparel start-up that also allowed people to try on clothing at home, shut down.
Yep. Amazon can afford to run a business model that would bankrupt most companies.
With Prime Wardrobe, Amazon will actually discourage clothing returns in a subtle way. The retailer will cut 10 percent off the purchase price of an order for anyone who keeps three to four items, and 20 percent off for anyone who keeps five or more items.
This right here I think is the extra margin.
I would, in fact, actually pay for a prime membership to have this service, though - I'm a very hard fit, hate clothes shopping (I have to shop enough for my stores) and would be in the market for a bunch of just basics to go with the stuff I prefer to wear.
This membership would also cover the ridiculous amount of DVDs the DH buys, and all the computer peripherals and devices I buy.
I don't think it'll impact we used clothing sellers, or sellers of brands which Amazon does not carry (many). It'll probably impact the new clothing sellers here who carry these brands, but mostly the big ones like CHOP retail, apparelsave etc., which is fine with me.

Unlimited exchanges with free shipping both ways plus free laundry for sizes 10-32. closet.gwynniebee.com/

There are a couple of these types of companies. Stitch-Fix is another that comes to mind.

Mr Bezos seems to want to take control over any and everything retail. He sees a thriving business and duplicates it with his Amazon spin of lower cost! I would be willing to bet that we will see Amazon self driving cars very soon to rival Uber. Available to Prime members only of course!

You're probably right, Jelly. Amazon just bought Whole Foods, I wouldn't be surprised if they got into autonomous vehicles next.

Did you happen to read his other recent articles? Two were about eBay; one had sales stats broken down by state which I found interesting. The other mentioned eBay's broken search and lack of on-site social search/commerce. Very interesting.

Yes - I'd read those (I'm on their list) - the bad search is probably the most talked about aspect of eBay and the fact that they're trying to use AI is despairing.
