My laptop is almost dead. I used my PP money and got a new Dell at Staples but the news ones don't come with anything. My old laptop had Photo Gallery--I loved it. It could adjust color tint, saturation, lightness, contrast. It could straighten photos, crop. Now I have to either find something FREE to download or BUY (with what???) a program. Eons ago I had PhotoShop Elements, which I used about 1% of but liked. It came free by mistake when I bought something else. I've tried Picassa but it messed up my computer and I didn't like it too much. Gimp is way too complicated for me. What do people DO? I have to take this oldie in to get the files transferred to the new computer and I don't know what to do about the photo editing? Anyone have ideas? TIA.

This won't be much help but most people here use & love Picasa, based on old threads. There was a thread a few months ago & Picasa was the #1 answer. There was also a thread a few weeks ago by Unknown that Picasa is being replaced by something new, so you may look for that thread. I'll continue to use Picasa cuz the replacement is more abt photo sharing & social media & I don't care abt any of that, I want a robust editor. Not that Picasa is robust, but it handles the basics.

I've used Irfanview for ages. Pretty easy to understand & does all of the things you want to do & its free. I always thought I'd look into something more advances but this does everything I need for Ebay photos & my own needs.

I think Windows Photo Gallery comes free with Windows 7 and Windows 10. If you have a new Dell it is probably Windows 10, try this link to get the free download of Windows Photo Gallery. It is part of Windows Essentials that has to be installed/activated first in order to get the programs within it. windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/photo-gallery

BUT I CAN GET PHOTO GALLERY??? I just checked and it does look like it's in the form of an ap that I can download! Who woulda thunk? Thank you. Now I can get the computer over to the guy, get my files off, and not be without a photo editor! I love this group!

Win10 has a couple of options that are nice, actually. I'm very pleased with their new photo editor, but since I'm at work, I don't know what it's called. Picture manager is usable too.

Ive got windows 7, don't think I could function without my windows photo gallery. I'd be really lost without it. My computer crashed last summer, that's the only thing I cared about. Geek squad got was able to restore everything, what a relief that was!

UPDATE: I brought my new laptop into the shop day before yesterday to get the stuff transferred from the old computer. GOOD NEWS=My beloved Photo Gallery was available by doing a search and downloading it! I think Jeremy said that. I am so relieved. And win10 isn't so bad. Win7 was better. Win10 wouldn't let me put a pretty picture on my desktop (yeh, the IMPORTANT stuff, lol) but I finally figured out a way to do it.
My computer guy put Open Office on it because it's FREE instead of Word. Nothing much comes with win10 but you use aps to get things or you go online and download stuff.
Thanks for all the support!

Somehow I figured out how to put a pretty picture on the computer too. Now if only I could put ca ching for ebay on my windows phone. I don't think it can be done and I'm not asking. I have Notifications turned on but this phone only lets you choose 7 alert tones. Not a huge problem. I have gone off topic but I am happy with my computer and it's faster than the old one too.
