Turns out the growth on side of her face is cancerous. She's been to one oncologist who said it's curable with chemo, which she doesn't want. Seeing another oncologist on Monday about radiation. Also getting PET scan and ultrasound to check swollen leg for clot(s). A friend of mine has had several bouts of skin cancer and they treat hers with a chemo cream. Is it possible the chemo the docs were referring to are topical cream and not oral pills?
It's not skin cancer. It's a mass that's been growing under her skin for at least a year that's turned hard. Bunch of different cells involved including cancer. Guess she's opting for radiation which she starts next Thursday. Supposed to kill cancer cells but she'll still have the large lump on her face.

staytuned - hope your MIL does OK! The lump may even out in time, maybe? I had skin cancer on my face when I was only in my 30s. The doctor who did the surgery was excellent and I'm a good healer, so even though I have a 1" scar it's basically invisible. It was the basal kind so not too bad - I'm pretty certain the old fashioned remedy for treating acne when I was a kid, which was being parked under a sun lamp, contributed to it as I've had no trouble since despite years of heavy outdoor exposure (though not a lot of sun lol). I'm glad to hear you're back to yard work, Denise! I'm still down with my hip - I've been running a low fever due to the inflammation (always happens) and so my energy is at low ebb. I did about three hours of prepping and photo'ing, then went to the Value Village up in the next county for senior day and to drop off a bunch of donations (20% coupon, which I use when I go up to Whatcom Cty), and despite taking a nap, it just wore me out. Bleh. I finally took an ibuprofen with codeine which I get in England, and realised that I should have done it much earlier, because I certainly feel better. My hip is improving, though, so I'm laying low, just did a short yoga program today and maybe ride the windtrainer and do upper body weights tomorrow, keep it easy going on the hip - see how I feel. If I don't keep moving, it's worse though - I get really stiff.

I wish I could take ibuprofen. I think my shoulder issue would be a lot better if I could take something other than Tylenol. Tylenol may work in fever but it doesn't do squat for muscle pain Cloudy, humid and low 80s here today. Carnac the Magnificent predicts Kritter will be out her yard today

Kritter will be out in her yard after she makes a trip to Lowes to pick up a new sprayer for the weed killer. Something is amiss with the automatic sprayer on the Roundup bottle. Roundup is sending a new one but it won't be here for at least a week according to the CS guy. Weed killing won't wait for a week so I am picking up a Craftsman battery operated sprayer that hopefully will fit one of the gallon containers that I have. While I am there I am going to check out the hibiscus in case they still have another one in the coral color like the one I purchased. Finally saw leaves popping out on my pecan trees. They are always the last to show off. The Crepe Myrtles are already pretty much in full foliage and should start seeing flowers before long.

Kritter - You killed the Roundup sprayer! Out of all the containers I've had, I only had one go bad on me. Sometimes I get a clog and have to clear it, but thankfully they are all in working condition. I keep a gallon jug at a few locations around here.
Val - Can you take Aleve? It's naproxen and is good for muscle pain.

That could be my issue. How do you clear it?
Grabbed another hibiscus while I was at Lowes. I can't believe that I am buying plants at full price. That is not a good way to start off the season.

Kritter - DH took the sprayer and tube off the container and put it in our big 5-gallon pump sprayer filled with water and just held the sprayer down until it cleared out. He also flushed it with the water hose into the bottom of the sprayer tube. I've had some small clogs where I just kept my hand on the sprayer and held it down until it finally sprayed out. Seemed like I waited forever, but it did unclog. It makes a hissing noise when it finally clears out, reminds me of a car trying to start and then finally turns over. If you have a clog at the sprayer hole, try to put an opened paper clip or something into the little hole to clear it out.

Val - Can you take Aleve? It's naproxen and is good for muscle pain. I take an anticoagulant, so all I can use is Tylenol I stopped doing the at home exercises from the PT place and am just doing the stretches. The last 3 days have had minimal, if any pain. I need to tell the PT lady Friday about this. I wonder if the wall exercises are just agitating the issue (they target some small muscles)? They already took me off one exercise because it was making things worse. Hmnn. Whatever the reason, I'm a happy camper

Epsom salts really are a no-fail way to sooth muscle soreness. Shoulders are strange things (I've had major surgery on both shoulders from mountainbike riding and boxing, including having my right shoulder held together with little packing straps) and tend to be kind of complicated. IMHO, thoroughly rubbing in a good liniment and regular icing work as well or better than anti-inflammatories (which for me stop working after about three days so I don't take them often).
We're heading into our little spate of warm sunny weather, where everyone who doesn't bug out of town for the mountains or beaches will be sitting outside coffee houses and pubs drinking coffee and beer. The DH decided he would avoid the crowds riding their bikes on the lake trails and take his long weekend ride elsewhere. I'm going to go off road for my little run. I managed 1.5 miles at the gym on their bouncy treadmill today, and am limping a bit, but OK overall.
Nothing in the yard here as we have all native woodland plants and they do whatever they do (which seems at this point seems to be the production of massive amounts of moss) - most of our yardwork is either raking up the leaves from the neighbour's messy tree, or cleaning moss from the roof and pressure washing it from the back patio. Sun in some form or other is predicted all the way until next Thursday.

I'm such a dunce. Working on the PC typing stuff - data entry, tax returns, posts on forums - doesn't really bother my shoulder. What sets it off is using the mouse for extended periods of time. I just remembered my main desktop PC has a touch screen. Duh. Lots less mouse use. I just turned the touch screen back on to see if it helps. I can be sooooooooo dense sometimes One of my third floor neighbors are moving out. It's funny watching them. Two guys - they'll load a piece of furniture, then stop and chat for 10 minutes. Go get another piece to move, chat another 10 minutes. Needless to say, they weren't loading up the truck very fast The wife joined in about a half hour ago and the loading speed picked up significantly LOL.

I did that this morning and the sprayer is working again. You would think CS would suggest that but nope. This CS guy was not from one of those 3rd or 4th world countrys but actually spoke good English without an accent. So, taking back the one I bought from Lowes plus have an extra one from RoundUp in the mail. thanks for solving my problem, Desire

How is everyone doing today? It's warm and muggy and windy here. They are saying rain tomorrow. I hope so, we really need it.
I went to the DPS with DH today to renew his license. They have a new system of taking appointments and it it's so much better! It used to take hours, we were in and out in 30 min. Not bad at all.
Well the bad news for us is that it looks like we are going to have another large oak tree taken down. We lost one some years back. This one is tall and most is over the neighbors yard and it has a loose branch that's a danger. I hate losing a tree and I Hate the expense. But sometimes it has to be done.
We are having a "dog mom's" brunch on Saturday I am looking forward to it. Several of us ladies "of a certain age" have met and started chatting as we walk our dogs in the morning. We've had several get togethers and it's always a nice time. Wine (or mimosas) a nice meal (everyone brings something) games (LRC, Dominos) and lots of nice chatter And hopefully the new tub will be in by the time I get back, even if I can't get in it yet lol.
Chap DH finds epson salt soaks great for sore muscles, I didn't know you could just rub it in? He always pours in a warm tub.

We only had to do that once, the other times I've been able to hold the trigger down until it cleared out. Like I said it seems like forever when you are holding the trigger down. Once I was putting the container down (throwing it down) over and over in the deep new mulch while stopping to clip branches and got a mulch clog that I got out easily with a paper clip. As flimsy as they are, it sure beats that hand pump container.

I can be sooooooooo dense sometimes Val, way back after I had rotator cuff surgery I had problems using a mouse on the desktop computer continuing to this day. If I do, my shoulder will start to ache and ache from that mouse movement. That's when I bought my first laptop and that's all I now use. I keep my elbows close to my body and my fingers just fly over the keys and I use the finger mouse pad. Try keeping your elbow in when you use your mouse, it may help as it limits the shoulder movements.

My problem is I overextend when I use the mouse - I'm too far away from the desk and the pad is too far away from the desk edge. If I remember to move the pad to the desk edge and move my chair closer so I'm sitting straight (and not slouching), it's all good. Surprising how little things you do wrong add up to one big problem The touch screen is fun. I actually forgot this PC had that feature

jesmelric - yes, you can get it in a liniment - check out the link I left upthread. I was really glad to find that out! When I boxed I would get so beat up from our long, hard workouts and sparring that I'd fill a tub with hot water and pour like a pint of epsom salts into it, then just lay there like a dead thing. It really works. Great old time remedy. Now I just smear it on myself - it's good for 'spot' relief.
Well, people are bugging out of town already. When I went to Orangetheory this evening the class was really small - they're usually busy with sometimes a wait list. I actually liked that because there was lots of room (the studio is pretty cramped - it's in an old storefront). The coach also had plenty of time to help the participants with technique, and she really took her time with it.
We're getting our floors ripped out by the asbestos removal company next month - bleh - kitchen, dining room, laundry room and foyer, plus some touch-up in a small, strange space behind the chimney. We'll get to clatter around on the subfloor for a week or so, then the tilers come in. This work was supposed to be done in 2019, but then Covid came, and I'm pretty sure we lost Mad Dog (our usual reno guy) in the pandemic. It'll be good to get the work done at last!

Thanks, I am definitely going to order him some. He doesn't care to soak when the weather is too warm, which is on they way.
It's supposed to rain here today through Sunday but so far nothing. We really need some, and I sure am hoping we won't be starting the really hot weather behind on rain. But we are looking at cooler weather at the beginning of next week, so maybe I can get in one more pot roast this season
I am making a crumb cake for the brunch tomorrow, it's in the oven and smells so good! Not sure what else is being served but I really enjoy baking so I always bring a dessert type of item.
Well Chap that sounds like a real pain about your floors. I'm guessing you'll have to move everything out, what a hassle. We redid our kitchen and laundry room floors a couple of years ago. We just put click and lock linoleum over the vinyl floors in the kitchen and laundry room and even that was a gigantic pain. But I do love the new floor, though. I'm sure it will be worth the hassle in the end. What kind of tile are you having installed?

Chap..right-we need pictures!
A few days ago on Facebook, someone posted 5 vintage floor tile pictures of the 1970's. sure enough, my ancient Harvest Gold floor tile was pictured. Everyone posted that their grandmothers had those options. But mine lives on.
I had a handyman here last month to rip out my dead garbage disposal and he did remark on how well-preserved my floor is. I just received a new electric floor-mop that might make the cleaning easier. Haven't tried it yet.
Cold and rainy here, which is a sock from yesterday's 75 degrees.
Leaving soon for my chemo which I am dreading. I had a severe reaction to it 3 weeks ago, since I was advised to take Claritin before my treatment. That was a very bad idea.

jesmelric - the liniment needs to be massaged in to work it into the muscles - it helps to lay a hot cloth on top first to warm things up, then rub it in, too. We're getting ceramic tile - I think we should just lay down plain old lino but the DH said NOPE. OK, he's paying for it so fine with me if he wants to spend his money. I'll pay for the asbestos abatement. It'll look really good when it's all done, though. And yeah, we have to move a lot of crap around. I have a feeling we'll be going out to the pub a lot lol. I want to run some plywood into the library (next to the kitchen), we'll hop the fridge onto the little furniture scooter I got from Harbor Freight and scoot it out into the library so at least we won't be living out of a cooler. I think we might be able to rent a moving harness for the other appliances and laundry sink. You slip a couple of straps under the appliance, then get the harness over the shoulders, one on each side, hoist it up then just walk it out. No straining the back. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to cancel my beautiful Birch Bay Road Race because it's right in the middle of all of this, but we have to coordinate two companies and it needs to be done when it is done. The DH was trying to figure out how to fit in the race but I said forget it, I'll do it next year.

Give me vinyl flooring or hardwood floors anyday. I've had a couple of rental places with tile floors and it was impossible to get the floors clean - especially the grout sections. My guess is the owners were too cheap & lazy to properly seal the grout. Nothing quite like nice pretty white tiles...with dingy gray grout Although I suppose tile would be OK if I owned the house and could ensure the grout was sealed. I do admit, tile floors look nice. Well, some tile patterns anyway Partly sunny (or partly cloudy depending on your mood) here today. Low 70s and humid. I bought a "no stud TV wall mount" and AMZ just dropped it off. I wanted to put my smaller TV from the bedroom (where it's rarely used) on the wall in my workout area. I'm in an apartment and I really didn't want the big holes that a stud mounted TV holder needs. The TV I'm hanging is fairly light (just a 24") so this should work: No Stud TV Wall Mount

My RoundUp sprayer that was going to take at least a week but probably longer to get here arrived today. I think the CS guy was trying to discourage me from waiting and to just go out and buy another jug of RoundUp with another sprayer. I kinda got that feeling when I was talking to him.

Emerald...thanks! I did all kinds of stuff to keep me warm during the infusion and it worked to keep away the shivers. When I got home, I had a 103 fever and my BP was 74/45. But that is caused by the chemo and nothing can be done about that. Cool today and will be cool all week, so outside work will be delayed.
I received my Progressive Snapshot thing today, which will monitor my driving for about 6 months. Sure wasn't easy trying to figure out where to install it. My back didn't appreciate that.

I did record 911, and will have to watch it tomorrow. I was in and out of it all day. Every time I eat, my BP goes so low that I can't do anything, let alone concentrate on a good show.
I am still trying to recover from the latest Fire Country episode.
