For those with a kindle, is it hard to read on the screen? As in, is the print really tiny like it is on ones cell phone? Or is a Kindle screen about the same size as a paperback book? Also, can you set the light to non-blue night light? The kindle version of a lot of favorite author books are so much cheaper than the paperback or hardback prices, plus the kindle version is always in stock. I've accepted the fact that I may just have to go to an electronic book

Ah ha. I just discovered I can read a kindle book on any tablet. OK. That sounds much better, since there are other uses for a tablet. Anyone have advice or an opinion?

I prefer a book too. I order books online from our entire library system that are sent for pick up at my nearest library. Usually pick up 10 at a time.
If there is a book that isn't in the system, they will order it if possible.

I have a Kindle Paperwhite and use it pretty constantly, also have an Amazon Unlimited membership so I can borrow books. The Kindle app can be used on a tablet, too - the great thing about the paperwhite is that it doesn't have the blue light component - even if one uses a utiiity that dims the blue like (something like f.lux, for instance) it still has a distorting influence. The paperwhite just looks like a regular physical page - I think you can get that effect with the regular app, though - I have the app on my desktop and it does have the paperwhite effect.
You can make the font any size you like on the Paperwhite, adjust lightening, etc. - the settings are very flexible.
For reading, I don't care if it's a physical book or an eBook - I just care about the words, but for fiction much prefer a Kindle. I also download a lot of stuff from Gutenberg and various articles from JSTOR in pdf and convert them into AZW3 files for Kindle - it saves me printing them out for portability.
The DH gave me a Kindle for Christmas and it really made a difference - before then I was drowning in piles of paperbacks because I go through them kind of fast. Now I just have whatever I like on the Kindle.
Hope that helps!

I have an an older ipad that I use to read books. I find it hard to read in the sunny outdoors. I know that some newer versions have the ability to see better outside.
I like the ipad better for night time since I don't need a light and can make the letters large enough that I don't need reading glasses.
I prefer a physical book for the beach or by the pool.

I have the Paperwhite also, it can be read in full sunlight I use it when laying out by the pond. Chap gave a good recap of the Paperwhite. I make the font large so I don't have to use reading glasses in bed, lol. I get all my books for Kindle through the library for free. I have had it probably 8 years and haven't paid for a book yet. Just put it on my wish list at library and they let me know when it arrives so I can download it. You can request books the library doesn't have also, I was determined I was not going to every use a Kindle but the cost and convenience won out.

That's one thing I dislike about audiobooks. They'll use the same really good narrator for the first several books in an author's series, then switch to a narrator who sucks and that pretty much kills listening to the book and the rest of the series. The Joe Gunther series did that - new narrator is horrible. If I want to continue the series, I need the book. I'm current on the books so that also means I'd have to pay top dollar for new releases. Nope. I'm too cheap to do that Hence the Kindle option.

I’d been using either a Kindle Fire or the Kindle app on my iPad. I can check books out from the library without leaving home. I have an Amazon Prime membership and every month they have a list of six or seven e-books I can choose from to receive free. These are new releases. There are also Prime e-books that I can “borrow” free, 10 at a time. On either device, I can set the font size and I can set it to be white text on black background or vice-versa.
I recently bought a Kindle paperwhite because its battery life is so much longer than my iPad or Fire. Those gave me around 4 hours, the paperwhite gives 25 or 30. The fire or paperwhite easily fits into my purse. The paperwhite is supposed to be as easy to read in the sun as a paper book. It is water resistant, too.
We travel quite a bit, and I like taking the kindle instead of three or four bulky books with me. I resisted a kindle until this past year because I do prefer to read a book, but I am getting used to it, and am finding for me the pros outweigh the cons. (By the way, my Fire was on special a couple years ago for $40 or less. It is more like a regular tablet as I can surf the internet with it. That makes it different from other Kindles.)

The only time I read is after I shut the house down for the night and read in bed with Tanji curled up beside me. I like to hold the book and turn the pages. Don't think it would even be close to the same holding another electronic device in my hands.
