It looks like there's a problem with this listing. · This category is no longer open to new listings or listing updates. Please select an alternative category for your listing.{e56718-1049531x} I am trying to relist a book, thought maybe my TL template was out of date, so I went in live to list it & I get the same error in both. It's a non-fiction large coffee table format type book. Does anyone know anything about this? Or is it some temporary glitch? I rarely list books, so maybe there was news I am unaware of in this category? Pantlandia or chapeaunoir I know you guys list books at times.

Haven't heard anything about it. I have a few books I need to list. I will try tomorrow and see if I get the same message.

I haven't had problems, but in eBay's relentless copying of Amazon maybe they're gating? I know that they've raised fees on media.

Yeah, fees for most media is 12% now even if you have a store. Kind of sucks, but still better than Amazon ($1.80 plus $0.99 plus 15% of the total transaction).

I just tried it again & got the error again, but I paid more attn this time & it says to pick an alternate category. I was using the pre-filled category & catalog info, so I unchecked that box to use the catalog, picked my own category & it worked fine. Weird.

The catalog is a mess.

I've read that, but I figured for books, it was ok, since they have the ISBN. The catalog had the right book & everything. I've only used it for books & CD's, which I don't sell very often, so I didn't realize it was a nightmare for those too. Thanks for the heads up!

When it works, it works great, but it so often has the wrong edition or whatever that it's often useless. You have to double check each thing. It probably works great for new items but not so well for used.

With CDs, I use it all the time. I do run across times when it will say 2 discs when it's actually only 1 disc (confirmed on Discogs and Amazon). Then I uncheck the box and don't use their description. One other time, I came across a stock photo of a completely different album, but since I don't use stock photos, it wasn't an issue.
Used to be when you unchecked the box, you could submit any errors or changes. I have yet to find where you can report errors now tho. Not that it would matter.

They must have improved the catalog, then - when I was listing lots of CDs and books last year I kept coming up with dud ISBNs for fairly new books, or the wrong CD. I use my own photos, too, but it's nice to have the 'liner notes' or whatever.

I find a ton that aren't in eBay's catalog, but are in Amazon or Discogs. I will list those on Discogs if the condition is good enough.

Old tech (which I sell) is also tough with that catalog - I won't use the UPC codes due to the ratings that sometimes come along with the UPC listings, and the fact that from time to time its been obscure whether someone is purchasing new or used - my old tech sells anyway - I've sold a couple of hundred units since I started offering it in my store.
