I have T-mobile cell phone service and I bought a Galaxy Grand Prime phone from them about 3 years ago, and I really like this phone (android). For the past week or so, though, where it used to say "4G LTE" on the top of the phone screen, it now just says "E", and it's really been slow. I tried contacting t-mobile, but the rep I talked/messaged with sounded like he was just reading off the website troubleshooting page (I had already tried everything he suggested). I looked at the SIM card and it's not scratched or dirty.
My question is: do you know if this is something wrong with my phone or is it a tower/network issue?
Any insight would be appreciated.

If you already went into the settings and tried to change things, it may just be a tower issue. I don't know if they can check (or if they would even admit it) if there are tower issues or not. Is it happening everywhere? Just at home?

"E" is an alternate network and is a step down from 2G speed-wise, so it's slow - I've used it overseas when I can't get anything else (remote areas, etc.). I suspect somehow you got shifted into that for auto-connect. Go into settings---->mobile networks------>network mode and see what it says.
If it says 4G LTE then I don't know.

Well, I had a dr. Appt this a.m. about 20 miles away and my phone had 4G LTE there, and now my phone is back to normal at home. Maybe tower issues?

Sometimes cell phones are like cats. You can never figure out why they do things...
Glad yours is back to normal. I've got stupid cell phone problems too - like there's a ghost in my phone wreaking havoc just for fun. Just a few days ago, most of my apps disappeared (not that I have all that many...). Tried everything to get them back. Even turning my phone off, waiting a few minutes and then back on again. Overnight, while charging, somehow, they re-appeared. Strange. But then I'm so tech unsavvy that it was probably something I did, in both instances, to cause this weird and annoying problem.

I usually just stop at the T-Mobile store for stuff like that. They are usually pretty good at basic troubleshooting, checking settings, etc. But I have about a million T-MObile stores within 15 minutes, so very convenient to do, ymmv.

The last time my phone did this (a few months ago), I stopped at the T-mobile store and this young girl clerk told me my phone was just bad and I needed to buy a new one. DD called BS on that, said it sounded like the SIM card, and told me to try a different sales person. My phone fixed itself and I didn't bother going back then. If this keeps up I may have to try taking it in again. ETA: I was making payments on this phone and I JUST paid it off the month before when it happened the first time.

If there were tower problems local to you there may be some reporting about that - don't know how you'd find out. We have black hole problems here and don't get any transmission at all and I know that's a signal problem.

I checked the down detector website and it COULD have been tower issues. We'll see.
