My grandma always did our laundry on Mondays, What was the reasoning behind that again? I missed it. No idea, but all of our grand mothers did laundry on Mondays.....

I'm old enough that my Mother did laundry on Mondays. And then turned on the mangle and pressed everything... including my brothers socks and briefs.

Had the opening to DD14's Lacrosse season this weekend. 3 games yesterday and 1 today. Had to leave the games early yesterday as we had tickets for Wicked in ATL. Today's game was on the opposite side of the city from me -- about an hour away. Gorgeous weather to sit out in -- I think our high was almost 70. (Good grief, I just checked weather for the week and we are supposed to get up to 77 on Wed. Bring it on GA Spring!)
Decided to do some thrifting on that side of the city so I could use the mileage for ebay. Was heading to a Goodwill when we went past a Park Ave Thrift and decided to go there instead. Sounded promising, right? Ugh - they had Park Ave prices -- well at least in comparision to what I'm used to paying and everything that was New with Tags was way up-priced! Walked out with only 3 things. Thankfully, there was a Dollar Tree next door that carried some supplies I need. So nothing ebay related done this weekend except pack a couple sales.

mangle? One like this: The bar in front heats up and the center rolls around. You use it to press clothes, it does them much faster then ironing, but it takes a real knack to use it right and not press in huge wrinkles.

It was gorgeous out today. I've been working on the deep Spring cleaning. I took everything out of the cabinetry and wiped the insides. I still have to oil the cabinets. That won't take long. I also spent time at Home Depot picking up fencing material and other stuff for DH. His stuff was boring so I bought a plant.

I did a google search and Monday laundry day seems to be a fact but I can't find anything that says why (I didn't dig too deep). Maybe its because they needed the water on the weekend for baths before church. One article said Monday laundry started early and lasted all day. There wasn't time for any other chores on that day.

Okay, with a mangle, I am sure that I would MANGLE my clothing....as well as my hands. Thanks for the pic!
I remember that everyone hung their wash on the clothesline....stiff towels and bird poop on the sheets.

It was an old nursery rhyme or song. I collect "Days of the week" embroidery iron-on transfers and have seen all kinds of variations of the rhyme but it's basically- Monday wash day Tuesday iron day Wednesday mend day Thursday churn or clean day Friday bake day Saturday shop day Sunday church or rest day

Sandra-that is funny-I just listed some vintage transfers like that. I think they just have the days of the week though.
