I'm beantown and live in a Boston suburb (and yes, we're very close to beating our previous snow fall record). I found this board while pursuing the internet for vintage and Etsy-I've been on Etsy for a bit over a month and it's slowwww there. On Ebay, we sell natural supplements and skin care (which is my regular business). I'd like to set up a separate Ebay shop for clothing and ephemera but get dissuaded after all the horror stories I read on the internet. Maybe now being around all you brave souls will inspire me to take the plunge:-) Divorced, 3 children (1 lives out of state, 1 in college and going abroad to study, and youngest is a junior in High School) and a variety of pets. I don't have a lot of hobbies but try to enjoy gardening (I actually got tomatoes last year!) and like to cook/bake (just not every day:-) The weather here has been horrible-in one week in my small town (20K) we had one building explosion (icicles fell off a commercial building and severed a gas line-no one was hurt on that Sunday morning thankfully) and sadly, two deaths from men that were assessing snow removal on roofs. And if anyone would like any snow I'll share. I think we're getting more this evening:-) Now off to go figure out how to make an avatar. I'm not that technically savvy

Welcome Beantown & my condolences on all the snow! You guys have had a rough year! There is a gardening section here, that everyone seems to like (I'm not a gardener myself) & of course a pet's section. Hopefully you can share some with us abt the Etsy marketplace, I've been thinking of putting a few vtg pieces up there.
No need to be scared of selling clothing on Ebay, many of us have done it for years! Anyway, jump right in!
Oh & to change your avatar, go to the profile section & then click 'edit profile' in the upper right corner. It's so much fun to play with. Takes a little bit to get the hang of it, but no longer being an egghead alien baby is good motivation :-)

Hi Beantown, I'm from the Philly suburbs and we are having a rough winter as well. Not as bad as you guys but bad enough. I hear Spring is coming next week, we'll see.
Anyway you will learn alot from these boards especially about clothes. Maybe research and investigate a little more and decide if it's right for you.
Welcome!

Thank you both for the warm welcome!
Philly hasn't had the greatest weather this season either. But, the sun is getting stronger (when it's out anyway) and the days a bit longer.
And Zoesam-I found the place to add an avatar but evidently need to get Adobe flash on my new computer to do so.
Although I don't have much experience on Etsy, I'm going to check out the board here too!

Welcome to the group! There are a few of us thinking of branching out to Etsy, and a few more who just have. Maybe we can all figure out some ways to shake loose some sales over there.

Hi and welcome, beantown.
I live near Hartford. While I've just about had it with the snow and cold, I must admit I console myself with the fact that I don't live in Boston. LOL. Just this year, though. I absolutely LOVE Boston any other time.

Welcome bean! I'm from Long Island and we've been hit hard too. But every time my DH complains about the snow/weather, I respond with, "at least we're not in Boston". Sorry you guys got a raw deal this winter.
And my daughter is looking to go to college in Boston in September. Good thing she likes the snow & the cold. But that's because she doesn't have to shovel it.
Anyway, welcome, nice bunch here!

Hi Beantown and welcome! I'm very close to you, approx. 50 miles from Boston. The snow is really getting too much, it's starting to get depressing to be stuck in the house all the time. But, I guess I should be thankful that nobody I know got hurt and is safe. I am sorry to hear about the accident in your town.

Welcome beantown! I'm jealous. I tried to grow tomatoes last summer and got two. Two whole stinkin' tomatoes.

Welcome Beantown! I am in W PA and we have had snow, but not nearly as much as you! Hang in there! Denise: I can't complain to people from this part of the country because "they know". We use to get this type of snow fall way back in the day, but never all at once. everything is relative though-I have customers from warmer states that love to call and ask, "How's the weather?" But......only during winter and never during the summer months when their normal is 95+ I think it all works out in the end. And like you I'm sure, I love having the seasons. But, it's enough already

Welcome beantown! I'm jealous. I tried to grow tomatoes last summer and got two. Two whole stinkin' tomatoes. Hey Val-I got more than you:-) Bu they were "cherry". I'm trying to be a gardener but not terribly good at it. I just want to walk out to my backyard and see beauty & bounty:-) But sadly, I only seem to grow weeds.

Welcome to the group! There are a few of us thinking of branching out to Etsy, and a few more who just have. Maybe we can all figure out some ways to shake loose some sales over there. I don't know much about Etsy but love vintage, I had six sales within a little over a month; for Etsy standards that appears to be a lot. I'm going to check out the Etsy board here when I have time. that being said, my customers there have been great so far. I only had one that asked for a slight discount but it was reasonable. Much better than the horror stories I read about Ebay. but traffic, painfully slow-even though I singed up for limited click through traffic-didn't want to spend too much money unless I saw results.

BeantownGlad you found us! Thank you! It's the "wonders of the internet" I guess-I was searching for "virtual selling" + "vintage" you were the second page or so. But when I searched for "Etsy" I only found disgruntled sellers that were kicked off. Kind of like searching for "Ebay"

She really likes Boston, in fact, she will be traveling there next month with her high school jazz band to play and sightsee. I wonder if the snow will be gone by then lol!

We also have another German Shepherd, but she's definitely Daddy's girl! We also have a small mixed breed terrier something that no one can quite figure out. She's my little snuggle-bum! Likes to sleep under the covers with me. It's nice in the winter but not so much in the summer! lol

And yet another welcome from another PA poster (there are lots of us!) I've been selling vintage clothing & collectibles on Etsy for a few years, and those buyers have generally been wonderful -- MUCH nicer than eBay customers!

All for Sale Jenny-
I seemed to have messed up on the "quote"
My daughter has a couple of friends that attend both BC and BU-both are excellent schools and she attended the high school summer honors program at BU. My son will be attending this summer and will most likely attend BU for college.
I'm partial to BU. Two of my brothers and my Dad went there:-)

I wonder if the snow will be gone by then lol! Exciting she's coming here with her band! She'll have a great time and it will finally be spring. I'm guessing we'll still have piles of snow:-) But it's melting; slowly, which is a good thing.
