I wasn't sure of where to post this, so mods...feel free to move it.
For anyone who knows about selling old laptops...is it possible to sell without an Operating System?
I am not sure how to totally clean all data off a laptop...I think there are always little bits of stuff still there even when you run one of those cleaning programs. AFAIK, the only way to be 100% safe is to remove the OS. But can it sell that way? I have 2 laptops to list...both in excellent working condition (and not really that old) so I don't really want to ruin my chance of profit
Any advice? Thank you.

You sure can. Just be sure to note that it is without the OS (in the title and description).

I've sold several laptops. What I do is wipe everything with the DoD (Department of Defense) disc wiping utility (one example DoD) and then reboot with the backup disk that came with the machine - sometimes that can be pretty darned old, but people are purchasing the machine, not the software. You could also load linux, etc. onto it.
