We are going to be in the 70s on Sunday and Monday and then 82 on Tuesday.
Then Wednesday back to the 50s and 60s for the rest of the week.
I am so ready for the 90s.
Bring on the heat.

It's not exactly what you guys are talking about but I found this interesting. I was reading about this company in Eating Well last night. It's kind of a neat idea, expensive, but still innovative. Window FarmsProbably easy enough for a crafty person to put together on their own.

I have seen those made from PVC pipe. People have them all over Pinterest. Very interesting concept.

I'd get one or a couple of those if I had windows with decent sunlight. But noooooooooo, I'm in frickin' cave. I need to move.

Our water company has disallowed any new gardens or landscaping because if the drought. Last year I did a little container garden, and it wasn't very appealing to look at. I have quite a bit of open property, but I think this year I'm going to put all the containers on the back deck. I love the idea of the stacking terra cotta herb garden. It might add some appeal to the arrangement of just big huge round planters I used.

Container gardening with veggies or flowers can look pretty dull especially if you have pots that are all of the same size.
Try putting some of them up higher, cement stepping stones or blocks work well for this, it breaks up the visual straight line and gives it a lot more interest.
Plus you can put decorative stuff in the pots. Decorative stakes work great for adding some interest, I have ones with frogs, suns, hummingbirds, etc. Anything that gets your eyes moving up, down and all around instead of just in a straight line.
ETA: forgot to mention that if you are putting pots in groups put them in odd numbers. A group of 3 or 5 is much more visually interesting then a group of 2 or 4.

Last year I did my herbs in the topsy turvey - Turned out beautiful until the groundhogs come on the deck and feast on it!

I guess they are common in some parts of the country, but no place I have ever lived. The only live ones I have seen were at a zoo. I probably wouldn't like them either if they ate my plants.

Shirley where we live outside of Philly they are building an urban waterfront community about three blocks away. We spent most of the spring and summer last year trapping critters.
Mike literally trapped 17 small animals. Six of those were 3 adult and 3 baby groundhogs. It's been crazy. He relocates everything himself but the skunks. The exterminator comes and gets those at $50 a pop!

Oh the poor things are being displaced by development. Bless you for relocating the ones you can.

Actually state law prohibits us from relocating. When you trap be prepared to kill the animal as most can carry rabies. We couldn't kill a fly!!! So Mike takes them about four miles away and leaves them in the woods. A skunk has to be take at least 10 miles away as they are like cats and will make their way back. He lets exterminator do that. He is actually trapping for one now as it skunked my one dog.
My poor SIL. Last year I got a groundhog and Mike was working late. Called SIL and asked if he would come and take it. He took it over to a park nearby and was stopped by a park ranger. Guy said I could give you a 350 fine for leaving that out here. But he let him go the first time.
Most people who live by us (remember we are at the river) use a bungee cord on the trap to drown the animals. But if you knew how Mike and I are with the poor things we just could never do it!

Raccoons and possums can find their way back home too if they aren't taken too far away. I haven't had to trap any in several years but I was taking them at least 5 miles away before letting them loose.
I took a coon down to a local park about a mile away from my house and I swear that he beat me back home.
I couldn't drown them either. Its not their fault.

Count me in with the no drowning club. We get a lot of wild life and I just try to share the area with them. Although, there was a skunk once that was wreaking havoc around here.
My DH was outside working on a car late one Summer night. He was laying under the front dash and reached out to pet this skunk thinking it was a cat. hahahaha Then this skunk nailed my lab, Nomad, a few times. That wasn't fun. Long story, but I got trapped on top of a car trailer with a skunk underneath it and the guys from the shop ready to shoot it. I'm yelling, don't shoot. Trying to get the skunk to go one way and me go the other.
The funniest - I went to the store one night. My daughter called me and said that skunk was on our back porch. I asked her what she did. She responded - "I locked the door".

When the critters are coming around because their usual habitat has been taken over by man I think it is really wrong to destroy them. We caused them to move, so we need to find them an appropriate place.

We have a lot of coyotes around here and people end up shooting them because they get the calves and other ranch/farm animals. There's ways around it. I actually like the sound of the coyotes at night. But I do have to watch the cats and my Border Collie, Flyer. Cats come in at night and they don't get to go out until it's daylight. Same with Flyer. There's a lot of area for him to run, but one of us is always out there with him.
The coyotes also keep the rabbit population under control.

You are so right about not hurting them. But groundhogs destroy my plants and possums are annoying (the babies are so cute) and racoons destroy the birdfeeders.
You can ask my dogs about the skunks. I don't think Bubba will ever get over getting skunked last month directly in the face!

We have alot of different animals around here. We usually have deer, raccoons, skunks, ground hogs, moles, snakes,etc...
One year we had these two raccoons that were getting a little comfy in our yard. One morning I went to toss the trash and one was sitting on the rim of a trash can happily munching away. I threw a stone to try to scare him and I swear he picked it up and threw it back! That's when I said " If you're that smart you can have the darn trash"! Eventually they went away but they stayed all summer.

Jelly,
They are hysterical. They use their paws exactly like hands. When Mike has suet feeders hanging, they will literally open them and pull the suet cake out to eat. Even when he is relocating he has to watch as they reach through the cage with their "hands"!

Roy you actually live somewhat near me. I am in Delaware County right outside of Philly. I guess we have the same critters.
I agree the raccoons are very smart.
We have a damned up creek outside of our back yard. One summer we got so much rain we had ducks for about 2 weeks. They were cute but very loud and mean!

I used to keep a container of food out in the cat pen so I would have it handy to feed the cats that like to eat in the pen as opposed to the back porch. I leave the pen open because all the cat beds are in there for the winter months.
That was until one morning I went out to the pen and the container had both latches undone and the top off. I knew it was a coon because the water dish was muddy.
Now the only cat food restaurant open is on the back porch. I am not feeding a tribe of coons if I have a choice which I do.
My house and yard, my rules.

How about that Jelly you are on one side of 95 and I am the other. Do you have good thrifting where you are?
My daughter has two mallard ducks that come back to her swimming pool each year in the spring and of course they poop it up and my SIL has a fit!

They are hit or miss. How about yours? I have an old friend out your way. I used to kind of hang out around there years and years ago.

Jelly - it's not good thrifting here at all. I go to one thrift on Monday because they have 3 color half and 2 are 1/3 off. They are getting so darned expensive. Our GW's have crap. I did find a nice little thrift that someone told me about. The day I went last week they had 1/2 off all clothes and boots. I got a gorgeous woman's plus sequin Blazer by Talbots for 10. It just sold for 60. She told me she saves a lot for a consignment woman. I think if I go enough I might get in with her.
We don't have any bins or savers around here. So i pay alot for what i get.

Um, folks? This is the public part of the board. Are you sure you want to post what you paid for something (for resale that is)?

Val, I was at Walmart today and they have different size plastic planters in great spring colors.
Also getting their flower plants in and I really had to fight to keep them out of my basket. Had some really pretty pink blooming Jasmine that caught my eye. I have a giant pink Jasmine here that is getting ready to bloom.

Ohhh, I may have to go to WalMart tomorrow and check out the garden section. I need 2 more blue pots to finish up the yard. And I want to see what plants they have in. I need some instant color while I'm waiting for the garden to sprout. Thanks Kritter

Just got the flyer from Lowes and they have a big sale starting on Thursday. It is their Spring Black Friday sale.
First sale on mulch since I sold my truck. The big depression begins.
My Walmart didn't have a great selection because they share the same parking lot with Lowes and Lowes cleans their clock on plants.
I did like Walmart's staked Bougainvillaea and their Jasmine. I had zero freeze loss this winter so can't use that as an excuse to buy plants.
