Um, sunset? I stole your picture and now it's my wallpaper. Hope you don't mind…. I don't mind at all. I'm glad you like it! If I could figure out how to do that, it would probably be my wallpaper too! lol

DH gets me 2 hanging baskets with fuchsia plants every year for Mother's Day and the hummers love those. I hang mini feeders from the baskets.

They also like the blue salvia, which I prefer to put in my critter garden as I have blue trellis's and pots. Can you tell I like blue? Pretty much anything with trumpet shaped flowers appeals to them. There is more nectar for them to drink in those. I would love to do fuchsias but it gets too hot here and they just don't do that well so I have given up on them and stopped buying them.

I discovered fuchsias summer before last. Bought a distressed hanger for $3 or so, nursed it back and discovered it grows nicely in one of the problem lighting spots I have on my patio.

I figured out fuchsias like the shade under the eaves of my house rather than sun.

The other nasty bird is a seagull, they snatch out the baby ducks from the canal while they are swimming behind their momma. I know it is nature but it makes me sad. They also poop on everything, tourists feed them while they are at the beach houses and it makes such a mess, the locals know not to feed them because they are like rats.
I had to go into the canal last year to save a baby duck that a seagull was try to eat, fought off the seagull and rescued the baby duck and got him to a safe house. Turns out Lucky the duck had a bad foot, not from the seagull just deformed so momma may have left him behind or he just couldn't keep up. He is living with a duck family that is spoiled rotten not far from here son's friend does wildlife rescue.

We live in the country on wooded acreage with farms around us. We have a bird feeder in our backyard that we use a mix of black sunflowers with an all purpose mix and suet blocks in the winter. We have a piece of aluminum vent pipe about 24 inches high that the shepherds hook pole through it which seems to be a good enough deterrent to the squirrels.
Due tour location, we get a huge mix of birds at the feeder. Just off the top of my head robins, nuthatches, chickadees, 3 different woodpeckers, tons of cardinals and the occasional indigo bunting. We've started referring to the blue jays as the jerks of the feeder. They are real bullies to the other birds!

Not the best pic. It was a quick one I snapped with my phone. Flock of Sandhill Cranes "next door."

I love it when the Sandhills fly over. We are in a flyway for them. Great pic!! I never realized how big they are until I saw some close to the side of the road in a field.

Sunset - loved the picture!!! I never saw a bluebird here. I am in the suburbs of Philly. I get beautiful cardinals, jays, starlings, chickadees, juncos. We feed the squirrels too! Mike has these bungee cord things hanging from the deck and they have square corn cobs on them. It is so much fun to watch the squirrels hanging upside down feeding on them. We have so much stuff out there it's ridiculous. I don't know how to post a picture or I would.
I love the hummers too. We get them early May! I also love the butterflies but that is not until July here.
Shirley where do you live?

There are some great Sandhill pics in the pet thread by another member! Including baby pics! It can be cool when they fly over - we get big flocks & they can be really loud. However, I'm not so fond of what they can do to my car when they fly over, lol... The Sandhills may or may not be the culprits, we live next to a refuge & have tons of birds in the Winter. If I were a better photographer, I could get all kinds of cool pics.

Roy, I'm down in southern NM. Just above the Texas and Mexico border.
So nice and hot in the summertime.

Great picture, kid! I can't believe that female cardinal is right at your window. The ones at our feeder are too skittish to get that close.

We get so many cardinals. There is a feeder right outside the window. The cat sits right there & they don't even care. They love those sunflower seeds.

Love those pictures! We usually have a squirrel problem but not so much this year. We have hickory trees & it was a good year for nuts. I think it's kept them away from the bird feeder. That & the fact that I chase them like a crazy woman when I catch them in the feeder.
