Me too, Shirley! When I was a leetle child my aunty and uncle lived right next door to a wildlife park and the koalas used to hop into their trees. I used to lie on the grass and look up at them. For years I thought everyone had koalas in their backyard. I thought we did, too, but that our trees were too tall for me to see them. There was also an emu that used to get through their fence ever year and build its nest. They tried everything to keep it out but finally had to just suck it up. It always took its babies back into the park, so it's not like they had to feed a flock of them all year round.

Adorable!
I want a career do over. I'd work with exotic animals given the chance.
Was the Emu mean? I've heard they can be nasty things. There was a guy down the road who owned one. Or maybe it was an ostrich.

Adorable! I want a career do over. I'd work with exotic animals given the chance. Was the Emu mean? I've heard they can be nasty things. There was a guy down the road who owned one. Or maybe it was an ostrich. No, it wasn't mean but probably would have been if they tried to interfere with its nest. They were quite fond of her and admired that she had the sense to choose a quiet spot out of the park for her nest. They probably left food out for her once they accepted she wasn't going anywhere. At wildlife parks they generally have emus wandering around free, mingling with the people. Before you go in you're told to hide all your shiny things because they'll peck at them. I've never had any trouble, though when one approaches it's a bit worrying because they're so BIG. But I think they just want to look at you. But I'm a bird lover - I suppose people with bird phobia just have to stay away from parks and zoos. lol. My doctor has peacocks running loose in the mornings, I suppose bird-phobics can't go there either!
