Nothing cuter than a tiny kitty learning to walk and play.

But then you miss all the fun and battle of wits Val. Plus when you get an adult you don't know what bad habits they have picked up and the retraining you may need to do. So it's really a toss up, and just about what you can tolerate. I kind of lean towards the kittens, because with the mischief I also get to laugh at the antics and it keeps on my toes mentally trying to stay a step or two ahead of them and figuring out what they will do next.

**Follow Up Note To Self: Correction. Only adopt adult cats from foster situations.** Hootie is an older adoption, he was 5 when I got him. Best. Cat. Ever.

Besides, everyone wants kittens. Older kitties can be harder to place.
I wouldn't mind a grownup doggie either, once I move.

Nothing cuter than a tiny kitty learning to walk and play. Yes, except "play" includes: * pulling all the toilet paper off the roll * pouncing on your feet in the dark when you get up to pee * gleefully throwing all the litter out of the box * running back and forth over your pillow when you're trying to get to sleep * digging up your plants * if you have long hair, tangling themselves in it * leaping on you when they think you've slept long enough * climbing the curtains, blinds, shutters, screen doors...and human bodies * batting at your pen when you're trying to write * trying to catch the cursor as it moves on your screen * biting through electrical cords And that's just for starters. And some of it is so fun that they never, ever stop doing it.

I would definitely prefer to foster and adopt (if I was still adopting which I am not) adult cats.
I am still waiting for Daisy to realize she is an adult cat. She and Trixie were chasing each other around the house this morning like maniacs.
I am always ready to push the foster kittens out the door no matter how cute that are.
Yes, foster kittens/cats are always the best.

But but but... those are all some of the joys of having cats. Oh, yes. As annoyed as I get I always think it's funny, deep down. Sometimes very deep down.

Ursa's latest trick is getting up on the desk and jumping up and down on the keyboard.
I don't know if he likes how it feels under his feet, the sound that it makes or the various screens/pages he makes flash up on the monitor. Maybe he is wanting to shop and is just trying to figure out how. But it's driving me nuts as he has even managed to turn off the computer.
That one is a very very very deep down funny.

And the bold little snit even does it when I'm working on the other part of the desk. If I leave the room I have to put the keyboard into the doored cabinet on the desk, which then has to be bungeed closed as Bitty knows how to open it and search for pens and pencils.

Shirley, maybe you should get this: www.bitboost.com/pawsense/PawSense is a software utility that helps protect your computer from cats. It quickly detects and blocks cat typing, and also helps train your cat to stay off the computer keyboard.

Thanks ahrn, I will have to look into that.
I've had cats interested in the keyboard before but it's like crack to him, he just can't stay away from it.

Can you get a decoy keyboard that Ursa can bounce on and not disturb anything?
Stinky the birdie's crack is the Comcast remote, something about the texture of the button is just right, we are missing about 1/3 to 1/2 of most of the buttons, you have to know where things are on the remote because you cannot read most of the buttons anymore, lol.

Alli I'm afraid if I do that he will never grow out of/be broken from the habit. He is 2 months old today so I still have hope. And I realized if I get a program like that I will not be able to use the computer in the morning until I have my coffee as my typing without coffee could easily be mistaken for a cats.

Shirley, can someone make you a wooden box about 1/2-1" larger than the keyboard, same height, that you can put over the keyboard while you aren't sitting at the computer?
If it's a wired keyboard, you can just unplug it when you go away from the computer.
I know you want to teach him not to mess with it, but just in case that doesn't work......

Oh, you can also get someone to install a keyboard tray for you, if your desk can handle one. That's what I have - problem solved.

I plan on redoing my office area and have a new desk that has a keyboard tray. In the meantime I guess I will just unplug the keyboard when I'm not right next to it.
He is in with Mom and the kits right now and they are keeping him occupied. Maybe he will forget about the keyboard now that he has kittens to bowl.

Something tells me this wouldn't work as advertised, but it's still a clever idea: Keep that pesky pet away from your computer with the Neko Pochi Anti-Cat Keyboard Cover. The cover fits over the top of your keyboard, protecting it from paws and furry bodies. However, being see-through, you can still fit your hands underneath and use it like normal. The cover can hold up to 10 kilograms (about 22 pounds), which should be enough for most unwelcome feline visitors to your desktop.www.japantrendshop.com/neko-pochi-anticat-keyboard-cover-p-3062.html

Don't know about it as a anti-cat device, but it looks cool as a desktop shelf!

You may never dissuade him, Shirley. Bubby the cat was interested until about a year ago, so 11 years. She didn't give a hoot about it when I wasn't using it, though. They just like to be involved.

Awww, that last one looks like a little lion.
I may be wrong, of course, but none of them seem to have the makings of Momkat's exceptional beauty. Except maybe the upside-down one in the second pic.
