They don't seem too unreasonable. I bought a wood stand like those from the rental place for $10, but the metal rod was distorted on one end so I haven't used it. I hang my 1/2 mannis from a heavy commercial dress rack that I picked up for $20. Craigslist has been a bust for finding an affordable used manni. Everything seems to be $150 or more...even dress forms start at $75. With the amount of clothing store closings I've seen locally, I figured somebody would have one cheap. Nope. Well, it's time to get back to work.

I totally forgot I have one of the cloth covered forms like the one in the second link, that I use to use for ladies clothing years ago. Just went and dug it out of the storage building, literally was the first item against the back wall. Wasn't easy but I got her out. Think she's about a 4-6 so that should cover most of my smaller sizes may still be a gap in the 10-14 range but I'm getting closer LOL
She's dirty though, never even thought to put her in a bag before putting her out there. It was only going to be for a few weeks.... I don't have a stand for her, suppose to be the one that screws in the bottom. I just have fishing line tied to her finial and hang her with that. Not perfect but it will do.
No store fixture places around that I can find or stores going out. Our JCP isn't on the list. I think between Buella May and Peggy Sue I can get most of the ladies items taken care of. I may go back and retake the front shot on some of the dresses to see if they look better on her.

I like both of those Jellybean. I want one of those. I like that style of mannie when I see it on ebay.

The only thing is one is styrofoam and I worry about it wearing easily or cracking. Does anyone have one that is styrofoam? I think I emailed the seller about the other and can't remember what he said. Also I was a little concerned about the size. They are on the small size.
Hopefully I can get one soon. If I do I'll let you know how it is. Either way they look better than what I have now.

I've never paid more than $10 for a 1/2 form (all brand new), even the plus size two that I have, but I went & got them from the store fixtures place. Unfortunately shipping adds a lot b/c of their size. Do you have a city within an hour or two drive? It would be worth it IMO to save the shipping costs.

Interesting. I still don't get the rumpled stuff, but I do like both the laid out version and the models. Too much trouble for ebay, but it covers all bases for the EF website.

I got mine for free from a ts that was upgrading. Chap sent me a link after I asked about her mannies and they seem reasonable www.fireflystoresolutions.com/c-1184-mannequins-and-forms.aspx

I'm bored, so I took my own advice and perused a few solds to see whats selling and see if I could find some new keywords (I struggle with knit jackets and twofers-there are surely better words!)....
anyway....
the GREAT MAJORITY of solds in a reasonable, anyone can find and list price range did not involve a mannequin/form/live model. in fact, they barely involved keywords (I cannot imagine what the descriptions looked like-I didn't even bother). i'm literally scratching my head again..."shirt 3X" and "talbots blazer" are not only being found, but being sold. I saw plenty of lousy pictures, kws, and bizarre titles. it made no sense. it wasn't necessarily people with followings, although there was some of that-it was average people.
the bottom line is, if you have what someone wants at the price they want to pay, they seemingly don't care if its in a ball on your pet hair covered dirty floor with a cloud of cigarette smoke accenting it. be one of the lucky ones with a "Shirt 3X" to get an early bid and it will seemingly be a fast and furious bidding war....idk, people must think one bidder knows something they don't.
so I stand by my original advice--do whatever works for you--its nice to use a form, but a hanger doesn't seem to hinder sales. in fact, quite the contrary.

Kloset,
I haven't seen any evidence of this, but I've wondered if there are many buyers who are looking to buy something that someone took out of their closet because it no longer fits, etc. A mannequin screams professional seller and that may be a turnoff to some buyers.

I have the plus plastic form, and while it was light weight, shipping was high because the box size put it into the pricing for dimensional weight.

The 2 full forms (they aren't hollow on the back) I found at thrifts. The dress form one I got at a store, the base arrived broken or something and they got a full replacement so they stuck the unused form out for sale. I need to pick up a stand for it, would be easier than hanging it. I assume the screw in stands are pretty universal.
Kloset I've noticed the same thing. I'm pretty sure we way over estimate what the buyers care about. I was looking at high end dresses the other day and see them on hangers, on the floor etc.
Part of me wants to just say to heck with it all and put up the clothing without all the extra crap including measurements (when you look at descriptions a lot you quickly see a lot of very successful sellers don't use them), a general blurb about used clothing, may have light wash pilling or fade and go for the quick turn and burn.
Sounds good but I've never been able to bring myself to do it.

I just don't have the space to keep a manni around, so I'm in the hanger only boat. For me it works and I'm mostly satisfied with my sales. I know I would be fussing with a manni too much trying to get something to fit right and my photograph lighting isn't the best anyway so I would not be maximizing the effect.

Kloset, I haven't seen any evidence of this, but I've wondered if there are many buyers who are looking to buy something that someone took out of their closet because it no longer fits, etc. A mannequin screams professional seller and that may be a turnoff to some buyers. I have seen plenty of evidence of this over the years--there is absolutely a mindset that used is ok if its worn by one person. its the reason even today there are those questions about "where did you buy this" or "how many times was this worn". these same people wouldn't be caught dead in a goodwill. in their heads, a "closet cleaners" used clothing will be in better condition than stuff acquired for resale---and who knows where some goodwill top came from...they feel the "know" the closet cleaner since its only one person--no matter that its still a complete stranger. its a psychological thing.
Its one of the reasons I've tried to straddle the line between being too professional and being someone who shops too much. i think that segment of the market who will buy "one owner" stuff pays more for it too. its only because of defects that i'm personally moving from a j.peterman model to a just the facts ones....otherwise i'd keep on doing what i do.

My in laws are those people. The refuse to wear used clothing but will swap clothing between the family or friends with no issues. They will also frequent a couple of high end resale "boutiques" because I guess the people that sell the higher end items used must not have the same cooties as everyone else Drives me insane, the were totally shocked when they found out I bought clothing for the kids at thrift stores. All the time they were growing up they'd say OMG she looks so cute, where did you get that. I always told them Goodwill then waited for the gasps of shock. Dh was a new clothing only person when we met too and would only wear a certain style of levis. Yeah he got over that fast and later got to asking did you get me anything while you were thrifting, brought him back from the dark side LOL
