For Brit Box and Acorn TV watchers - new seasons have dropped. Acorn - The Brokenwood Mysteries season 8 (5 episodes) is now available. If you're a fan of Midsomer Murders, you'll like Brokenwood. Acorn - Agatha Raisen season 4. Brit Box - Season 25 of Silent Witness. Amanda Burton is coming back as Sam Ryan but not as head of the forensic unit. I'm a big fan of Brit mysteries like Misdommer and am happy to learn about the Brokenwood Mysteries. I've never heard of Agatha Raisen either- always great to get recommendations 👍🏻 My sis recommends the Sister Boniface series but I haven't seen it yet. We really enjoyed the Bosch series and will check out Bosch Legacy when I'm not babysitting overnight anymore. We settle in about 9 every night & watch tv or movies togethe . Right now I'm watching stuff he's not interested in like Studio Ghibli anime movies. Finally watched My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service. He's watching horror/thriller & emo movies that I don't enjoy.

Sister Boniface is really cute. It's been renewed for Season 2 but no word on when it will be available for viewing.

I was all caught up on my regular shows and tired of cop/murder/mysteries, so I tried the reboot of Dynasty (Netflix). I didn't expect to like it, but it ended up liking it better than the original. It has the same characters, but cast differently (and better, IMO). The reboot had 3 different actresses as Cristal, so that was a bit wierd, and two actresses have played Alexis (due to COVID issues and actress personal issues, etc). In the long run, though, those cast changes ended up being good ones as the original reboot Cristal and Alexis were lightweights compared to the portrayals by Joan Collins and Linda Evans. The subsequent actresses are much better. Starting in season 3, I think it was, they introduced the random "fun" episode here and there, which made for a nice change from all the beotchy drama. The one based on "I Love Lucy" is a total hoot. There's even some humor in the reboot that was missing from the original. Plus I think the reboot Blake is much better looking. The actress playing Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) is AWESOME. She can really sing, too.
You can catch Seasons 1-4 on Netflix, and Season 5 (final season) should hit Netflix later this month. The clothes aren't as great as the original, but the reboot storylines are much better IMO. And I really love the change they made to Sammy Jo - no longer a whiny spoiled brat, but one of the few genuinely nice characters in the family.

I suspect many of you have already discovered this one, but just in case - Chicago Med on NBC. Characters are mostly likeable, even the arrogant jerk in charge of cardio surgery (once you learn his backstory). Good drama, some humor. If it were a real hospital, though, I'd never set foot in it. At least one patient usually dies per episode, and given that there's only a handful of patients per episode to start with, that's a really high death rate

We watch the trio. More the fire and police ones, although the police one is so fake.

I thought about checking out Chicago Fire, but I watch so many fire shows and I don't think any of them can hold a candle next to 9-11 and 9-11 Lone Star, so I figured why watch another one? I doubt I'll watch Chicago PD, I really don't like the cops who show up in the cross over shows. Those actors aren't very good IMO.

I watched Station 19 but I got tired of it. Too much juvenile drama. I just want to reach through the TV and slap the lead characters sometimes. It went downhill when they lost Dean IMO. That reminds me. I need to see when the new season episodes start dropping for various shows

Thanks Val. The ones that I like best are A Million Little Things and Big Sky!
I still watch Station 19 since the show melds into Gray's Anatomy.
I am so glad that I can record a lot of shows since so many good ones are on at the same time.

You can usually watch them online a day or two after they air live, or on Hulu. I usually watch any current season episodes of CBS shows at CBS.com, and NBC shows on Peacock, but for everything else I watch on Hulu.
I checked out a new show last night, then passed on it when I realized it was a Shondaland show. She's bad about killing off regular characters every year. Ugh.

I could never keep up with all of the shows that way. I am usually glued to MSNBC in the evening, so I have to record all of the prime-time shows. Don't you have to pay for Hulu?
What new show was on last night?

Sorry, not a "new show", just a "new to me" show in that I hadn't ever watched.

ABC has a new show this season, "The Rookie: Feds". It's a spin-off from The Rookie. You can also watch it on Hulu. It's supposed to be a drama but I think it's more of an action adventure dramedy . Neicy Nash plays the oldest rookie the FBI has ever hired, and it's about her probabationary period as a new agent. Good action, likeable characters, and even a good bit of humor. You don't have to watch The Rookie to enjoy this one, although The Rookie episode last season where she was introduced was a good show.

I have Rookie Feds recorded and have to watch it. I do like the Rookie, and Neicy (ugh.... that used to be my nickname) was really good in it last season.

East New York on CBS is a new show. It's a cop show about a beat cop who works her way up to Deputy Inspector and takes over command of her old precinct. Good characters, good initial storylines that will probably each grow as the season progresses. Jimmy Smits plays her boss and I can't tell yet if his character will be a good guy or a back stabber.

New Netflix original movie came out this past weekend - Enola Holmes 2. The first one came out on Netflix in 2020 and was really good. The sequel is even better. It's losely based on a series of teenaged books about Enola Holmes, the much younger sister of Sherlock Holmes. The plots are interesting, acting is good, and it's a period piece. I highly recommend both movies. Stars Henry Cavill (Superman) as Sherlock, Bobby Millie Brown as Enola, and Helena Bohham Carter as Enola's mother.

Paramount has brought back Criminal Minds, now called Criminal Minds: Evolution.
Most of the cast from last season is back, including Penelope. It's set about 2 years after the original season finale. Streaming only, with 10 episodes, dropping on Thursdays. I've watched the two episodes currently out and it's really good. I think even better than the original show, since this time the case will cover several episodes rather than a new case each week.

Val-do you watch Big Sky? That is the best show of all for me.

I think I tried to watch the first episode of Big Sky and didn't care for it, but it may have just been that I wasn't in the mood for a drama that night. I see where Reba McIntire is in the cast so I may give it another shot. Speaking of Reba, looks like she's had some work done around her eyes. Or maybe it's just that I'm used to seeing her in full eye makeup and she's not wearing much in the trailers. Eh, whatever, I love her when she's on TV shows.
I'm with you - looks like Smits' character is one of the good guys. I think I like East New York best out of all the cop shows I've watched (except for Nash Bridges, but that was a cop dramadey that was borderline campy, LOL). I definitly like the spin of ENY better than Blue Bloods. You get to see the inner actions at high levels in BB, and the street level reality in ENY.

Val-each season of Big Sky brings in a new story. Reba is indeed evil in the current series.
I quit watching Blue Bloods since I found it to be boring.

I didn't like Yellowstone for the first few episodes. It takes a bit to draw you in.
I also felt the same way about the Americans. The first season seemed so slow that I would put it on while I was doing something else and then it wasa suddenly an addiction.

I didn't like Yellowstone for the first few episodes. It takes a bit to draw you in. I think it's because they try to introduce too many characters in the first episode without any real identification of who they are It did seem interesting though, just crowded and confusing. But I found a wiki fandom page so that will help Right now I'm wrapping up The Last Detective on BritBox. Very entertaining series with a lot of the subtle dry humor that the Brits do so well. Also good on BritBox is the Father Brown mysteries and the spin off show Sister Boniface.

Netflix has a series called Murderville and it's quite funny. Basically, Will Arnett plays a detective who has two different detective trainees every episode and they use clues to solve a murder. However, the cast all have scripts that they go from, while the two trainees do not. So, it's a mystery comedy improv and quite funny.
The fun thing is that it's played out like a dinner theater murder mystery and there are clues that you can use to solve the murder yourself while you're watching. I just watched the Christmas episode and it had Jason Bateman and Maya Rudolph as the trainees. It's funny to see them break character and laugh because it's also very funny.
I definitely suggest watching it.

For those of you with an Acorn subscription - there is a really cute and very funny Christmas movie called One Christmas Eve. Great cast and really funny plot. I think it might also be availble on the Hallmark channel.

For those of you with an Acorn subscription - there is a really cute and very funny Christmas movie called One Christmas Eve. Great cast and really funny plot. I think it might also be availble on the Hallmark channel. Thanks for posting that Val. I was able to watch it on Peacock. If this is the story about the Beagle dog that pulls down the Christmas tree and all the crazy trouble this group gets into on Christmas Eve, it really was funny. Anyway after watching it, several more Christmas shows came up, two others I watched were really good, one was a dud. Both were older repeats. "The Christmas Card" is about a soldier that was stationed in Afghanistan and gets a Christmas card with photos from a woman that writes cards every holiday to oversea soldiers. The card describes her life in her small town, their customs, and photos. He said this card got him through so much, the death of a friend in an explosion, etc. On his extended leave he visits the town in the card, looks everything up and anonymously meets her and her family. The other movie was "A Bramble House Christmas" about a man who leaves $$$ in his will to his nurse and her son with an all-expense paid trip to Bramble House Inn, where he spent all his Christmas time as a kid. His son, who is furious she inherited anything from his father, tracks her down, books himself into the Inn under a different name, and the trouble starts. But Bramble House is the perfect country holiday inn getaway, decorated to the T with an abundance of snow thrown in for the full effect.
