I started watching The Morning Show on Apple TV last night. WOW. Two powerhouse women in the lead roles - Jennifer Anniston and Reece Witherspoon, and both playing very different parts than they usually do. VERY good show. The first show/pilot is a bit longwinded, but it's needed to set up the characters and the overall season storylines.

The Oscar nominations are out, and as usual, I've never heard of any of the movies. So I googled the trailers. Some of them I didn't care for, but I can see from the trailer why The Power of The Dog received so many nominations. Holy cow, if it's anything like the trailer, it's intense and good. King Richard looks really good, as does Don't Look Up. I may have to see if Belfast is streaming online yet. CODA is already streaming and looks like a good one too. The others didn't appeal at all. Nominees are:
BEST PICTURE
Belfast (Laura Berwick, Kenneth Branagh, Becca Kovacik and Tamar Thomas, Producers)
CODA (Philippe Rousselet, Fabrice Gianfermi and Patrick Wachsberger, Producers)
Don’t Look Up (Adam McKay and Kevin Messick, Producers)
Drive My Car (Teruhisa Yamamoto, Producer)
Dune (Mary Parent, Denis Villeneuve and Cale Boyter, Producers)
King Richard (Tim White, Trevor White and Will Smith, Producers)
Licorice Pizza (Sara Murphy, Adam Somner and Paul Thomas Anderson, Producers)
Nightmare Alley (Guillermo del Toro, J. Miles Dale and Bradley Cooper, Producers)
The Power of the Dog (Jane Campion, Tanya Seghatchian, Emile Sherman, Iain Canning and Roger Frappier, Producers)
West Side Story (Steven Spielberg and Kristie Macosko Krieger, Producers)

Worst Roommate ever on Netflix was pretty good. Hoping that I can ride out the rest of my life without ever needing one.

Season 2 of Bridgerton is even better than Season 1. If you haven't watched either season, grab a bowl of popcorn, get comfy on the couch and start binging.

Heads up Star Trek fans! The new series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds airs this Thursday on Paramount. It's included commercial free with the streaming subscriptions. Early reviews are good, as are trailers. But hey, I don't really care if it's crappy as long as I get to watch Captain Pike and Spock - talk about eye candy. According to the reviews I read, it's supposed to be more like TOS (light, humorous, stand alone episodes) and not as heavy as Picard or Discovery. Works for me. I watch the Star Trek series for entertainment, not enlightenment

Paramount is streaming a new rom com with Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliff as the bad guy. The Lost City. It's cute. It's a little slow at the beginning, so give it a good 15 minutes or so to really get going. Great scenery too as it was filmed in the Dominican Republic.
The new Downton Abbey is out at theaters now, for all you Downton Abbey fans. It's rumored that Peacock (NBC) may be streaming it by mid-summer, although not official yet.

SPOILER ALERT!How about that Better Call Saul episode last night?! I literally gasped. What a shocker! I'm glad someone else is watching. Yes, I can't decide which was more dramatic- Nacho's end or Howard's. I felt bad for both characters being killed off, especially Howard since he didn't deserve it. Glad we only have to wait til July 11th for the final 6 episodes. Those should be amazing to wrap up the series including what happens to Gene. I just hope that evil Lalo meets an appropriate fate.

How about that Better Call Saul episode last night?! I literally gasped. What a shocker! Are there new episodes? I see 5 are available. Not sure if we're up to date or not and my phone isn't showing the air dates. Last week Cliff started watching Breaking Bad from the beginning for probably about the 5th time. It's one that I never mind watching. On a whim we also watched Keep Sweet Pray and Obey. Highly disturbing but interesting at the same time. I'm really surprised it didn't turn into a Waco type situation when Warren Jeff's was arrested. That man and many of the other men are pure evil. It's about as messed up as messed up can be. Looks like we'll be catching up on Better Call Saul tonight!

I finally discovered New Amsterdam and The Equalizer this week. I love the Equalizer - it's like Burn Notice but the kickass woman is the lead instead of the main sidekick

blissfullymiserable- season 6 Better Call Saul got split into 7 episodes which already aired and the final 6 ending the series starts Monday, July 11th. Mark your calendar!!!
Also love Breaking Bad and we've watched it at least a dozen times and still love it. Better Call Saul, to me, started off a little slow the first couple seasons, but what I love about the series is it's not only great to watch how the characters evolved (Jimmy, Gus, Mike, etc.) to Breaking Bad. It's also quite a feat to not only come up with such a great series, but one that can stand alone without blending into the BB universe.

I've started watching The Good Doctor on Hulu. It's much better than I expected it to be. It's about a guy who has high-functioning autism and savant syndrome. The other docs on his team start out disliking and not trusting him, but he slowly brings them around. Very well written, sensitive, and good characters. Even the ones you start out disliking end up with some redeeming qualities.

An update to an earlier post I made: New Amsterdam is well worth the watching. One of the best medical shows I've seen in a long time. The COVID montage at the beginning of Season 3 will have you sobbing for the medical professionals and the patients they lost. It puts COVID in a whole new perspective.
It's on NBC (Peacock if you stream). If you liked Chicago Med or This Is Us, you will probably also like New Amsterdam. Or so the critics say (I never liked This Is Us LOL).

Val-I love all of those shows-New Amsterdam, Good Doctor, Equalizer, Chicago Med, This is Us.
A Million Little Things is also great. And then there is Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. I watch all of them on regular prime time channels.
Oh yeah, Grey's Anatomy too and 911. Big Sky is also great.
I have to record so many of them since they are all on at once. And I gradually catch up on the weekends.

I was watching Station 19 but gave up. They keep killing off too many of the good characters, and leaving the whiny immature ones on the show. I think I can get Chicago Med, Chicago Fire & Chicago PD on Hulu, but I think it's the same showrunner as Station 19 (Shonda Rhimes). So if she kills off all the good characters in those shows too, I'm out.

Oh yeah, I watch Station 19 too. I think I like Chicago Fire the best out of those, since it is easier to follow all of the characters.
I also like Transplant which is actually running now.

I was only watching Station 19 because 9-1-1 and 9-1-1:Lone Star ended their season and the new season hasn't started yet. I discovered Hot In Cleveland last night. Dang that show is funny! It has the same vibe as Golden Girls (thanks, Betty!) and you can tell the crew likes working together. I'm only a few episodes in and there have already been some scenes where it looks like the ladies are having a hard time not laughing.

The Old Man anyone? It started out pretty good but there's some scenes from the past that I had a hard time following. Stranger Things is getting a little strange. I think I'm too old for it but going to try to muddle throug hit.

Attention Harry Bosch fans! The first season of "Harry Bosch-Legacy" is available on Prime. This show takes up where the previous series ended - after Harry leaves the LAPD and becomes a private investigator.

For anyone who likes the Lincoln Lawyer series of books by Michael Connelly - it's now a TV series on Netflix. Season One is available (10 episodes) and it's been renewed for season 2. If you saw the movie with Matthew McConaughey, it may take you a little bit to get used to the actor playing Mickey in the TV show. Other than that, it's a very good show.
Unfortunately there won't be any cross-over episodes with Harry Bosch. While the two frequently cross paths in the Harry Bosch and Lincoln Lawyer books, the two show are on separate networks. Bummer.

For Brit Box and Acorn TV watchers - new seasons have dropped.
Acorn - The Brokenwood Mysteries season 8 (5 episodes) is now available. If you're a fan of Midsomer Murders, you'll like Brokenwood.
Acorn - Agatha Raisen season 4.
Brit Box - Season 25 of Silent Witness. Amanda Burton is coming back as Sam Ryan but not as head of the forensic unit.

I think I'm too old for it but going to try to muddle throug hit. We’ve been watching The Old Man. I agree that it started out good, but I’m losing interest. Jeff Bridges tends to mumble, so I miss a potion of what he says, and I tend to zone out on the flashback scenes due to the subtitles. I liked it better before it became more and more espionage-based and less character centric. DH is still into it, so we will keep watching.

Love Bosch and the Lincoln Lawyer was also very good. I am an avid reader of the Bosch books, have only read one Lincoln Lawyer book. Two of my three favorite book series have turned into TV shows; Harry Bosch and Jack Reacher. The third one is the Alex Delaware series by Jonathan Kellerman. If they turned that into a TV show, I'd love it.

I have been watching the Lincoln Lawyer as well. A tad slow moving but yet still interesting enough to draw you in.
We also started Dark Winds on AMC and I am loving it. Reminds me of Breaking Bad which is my favorite show of all time.
If you have Paramount +, The Offer miniseries is excellent. It tells the story of the making of The Godfather. You can sign up for a free trial of Paramount + and it is binge worthy.
Also, on Apple TV we are enjoying Blackbird, For All Mankind (this is season 3), and Loot.
