I took my Camera and my DH into the garden yesterday. This is my first year growing polebeans. We just used 3 tree branches to form the teepees.. They have grown like crazy and are just starting to produce.I like them. Nice long straight beans without being close to the ground and getting dirty.

I had some extra space..or so I thought.. i had some Okra seeds from 1998. They did good.. My eggplants in front of them on the other hand are not doing well. I think it was just the plants I bought..

We had a great pole bean harvest this year until the Japanese beetles got them. Just about done now. We grew them in containers. Put a tomato cage in the ground & another one upside down on top. Worked really well & no bending over. My melons are just starting now. I almost pulled them out because I didn't think they were going to grow. Beautiful garden, Wildflowers

I'm jealous. Of the garden, not the melons.

I know nothing about gardens, but I can sure spot nice melons when I see them.
Thanks for sharing the pics. It's fun to see you! You really do look like your avatar.

Thanks Ladies. It was about 90 degrees that day so I was a little on the sweaty side. But those polebeans are really something. I wanted to get a picture of them. I saw on pinterest where you can build a pole type building and let the beans grow all over it and have it be a playhouse for kids. In the up coming years when I have grandchildren I am wanting to do that. I think that would be fun thing in the garden for kids.. We are having a really good year in Iowa so far, for the garden and the field crops. I have a patch of squash that is huge. But it is way too unsightly for pictures. I have spaghetti squash, acorn and butternut.. The spaghetti squash is just about ripe. A great year for peppers also. I planted fall radishs, lettuce and snowpeas today. And this winter I hope to put a hoophouse over a small raised bed and grow lettuces and root crops way into the winter months.

Just don't post any zucchini pics, people here revolt over zucchini pics. How big a base area did your pole beans take up? About 4' x 4'? I think I want to try some next year.

Mine didn't happen- too many trees have grown to shade the garden area AND crazy neighbors reaching over the fence to spray poison in our chicken yard/garden area. It will be relocated to the front of our house next year. When our kids were little I found plans for a bean tunnel. It looked simple- just roll a section of chicken or other fence wire into a large tunnel shape and plant climbing veggies around it. Then the kiddos could crawl thru it or have a fort in your garden.

What a wonderful garden. I've never done veggies just flowers.
Oh and Shirley if you are reading this - my morning glory grew like crazy but never bloomed. Is that an annual?

Morning glory will usually self seed and come up again year after year. I put in seeds about 4-5 years ago and haven't had to put in any seeds since.
It can really take over wherever it's at. I had to pull out about half of what came up this year so there would be room for the other flowers and plants to grow.

Shirley I was going to say my teepees are 3x3 at best but I went out the other morning and the biggest one had toppled over.. I was able to stand it back up, unharmed and pound some fenceposts in around and I think that will do it.. Start as wide as possible I am thinking..4 x 4 would be good

I do love them fresh or for making refrigerator pickles. And it's one veg I wouldn't mind getting bushels of.
