Just saw on HSN that they are selling an HP laptop with Windows 10 on it.
Boy am I behind the times.
Has anyone heard anything about the new version?

If you did then so did I. Can't imagine buying something with a new version that just came out on it. They never have all the bugs worked out and who needs that aggravation. I need to think about getting a new computer and I am still hesitant to go to Win 8. Yes, I am old and I hate change.

Have they said anything about how long they will support Win 7?
I would hate to go to that and have them not support it in a few years.
I would rather go to 8.1, yes, I did say that, then to having to use a system and then just change again.
And I have to have a desktop, I am just not a laptop person.

Go to 10 then, just skip 8 and 8.1. I HAD to get a laptop. Too hard to lug desktops around to client offices

You might want to go to Win 10 - good review: www.pcadvisor.co.uk/review/operating-systems-software/windows-10-hands-on-review-3574736/And this sums it up nicely: For the majority of home users, Windows 10 is free and this means that there’s really no reason not to upgrade. Unless there’s a specific feature in Windows 7 or Windows 10 that you can’t live without then the new features combined with the familiarity of Windows 7 make the new OS very attractive. Plus they said this about the beta testing: Also necessary is Microsoft's decision to make Windows 10 the most beta-tested product it has ever released. Windows 10 was tested by over 4 million people around the world before its launch.

The 10 didn't look to bad that they were showing.
They said it is a combo of all the best things of Windows. I just hesitate to get something that is so new because of the bugs issue.
Maybe by the end of the year any issues will be cleared up and I can buy myself one for Christmas, there are always good sales then.
Luckily I don't have to carry the computer anywhere so I can keep with my old style desktop preference. I do have an old laptop somewhere, but Bast only knows how old the program is on it and if it even works anymore.

My Mac is my desktop computer. I bought the laptop because I needed a windows PC that could handle all the accounting programs I have, and I wanted a HUGE screen (I'm spoiled by my Mac, LOL).
I wouldn't mind upgrading the PC to Win 10, after some user reviews come in. Maybe in a couple of months.
Sounds like Microsoft got tired of being laughed at for all the crappy stuff they've put out the past many years.

I bought a laptop a few weeks ago that has Windows 8 on it. They said that 10 comes out the end of July and I can upgrade for free. First thing I did was get on the list so I will get an email when it is released.
the guy said it takes the desktop away from the crap 8 had and goes back to the familiar look of 7 and before.

The Kim Kommando (sp?) show was on in the radio the other day. She recommended the Win10 upgrade for any Win7 and 8/8.1 users. I will be updating DS computer this week. The automatic updates don't really creep me out. But then again, he only uses his computer for video games, netflix and homework/homework research.
If it were up to me, the entire house would have Apple products.

I'm on the list for Win 10 pro. We'll see.
Win 7 will be supported for a while - Microsoft was forced to support Win XP for years after the cut-off time because of the Vista disaster and the fact that there was too much XP-specific proprietary software developed due to the OS's longevity.
Win 8.1 is marginally OK, as soon as I got my tablet I downloaded Win 8.1, but it's only a stopgap. Microsoft admin's little bee-hinds are still smarting from the smacking they got over the Stupid that was Win 8.

I have Windows 7 and plan to stay with it until I am forced to let it go.
I don't like technology change.

I have Win 7 professional, not home. I'd do the same with Win 10, not get the home version, just so I don't have to have automatic updates. Shoot, I don't even let my Mac auto update. I have to approve it all. I'm in to power and control.

I keep getting a pop-up that wants me to upgrade to Win 10. I like my Windows 7 and when my old computer started to have issues, I had a friend of ours build my computer with what I wanted. I won't upgrade until I can see Windows 10 in action because I absolutely hated Windows 8.
And I also want total control over my machine. I don't auto update anything.

I auto-update everything with Windows OS, BIOS, etc. - our entire network is on auto-update. A lot of the stuff (registry updates, etc.) is just routine. I do all the updates on any other software, though.

Ain't nobody as much 'in control' of my computer as I am. I have XP running on virtualbox so I can use TL and stamps.com's software. I've allocated a whole 192 megs of ram to it - and XP is very zippy with just those 192 megs under linux on this old box that I patched together in '07 with 4 gigs of ram(?) and a 2.4 Ghz semperon cpu. Even if I deleted linux I couldn't install any of those windows versions; this old box is too old. I just spent 3? days chugging down an antique version of linux from the end of '09 and installing it instead of the later versions of linux that I tried and didn't like. I like this version and I'm too old. I ran 'bleeding edge' stuff for a lotta years, alpha and beta testing all kinda linux stuff, compiling my own kernels. No more.

I have windows 8 or 8.1 whichever it is and have for a long time, took a bit to get use to it but I like it. I am holding off on upgrading to 10 until they get some of the bugs out. Also it doesn't support media player so you have to do separate apps for that or retro it and redownload it. I use media player a lot for burning of dvds, don't want to lose that or my program I use by upgrading. I may switch my burning software to my desktop and then I can upgrade my laptop without worrying about compatibility issues.

I have windows 7 too, about a month ago when my puter broke I was terrified that Geek Squad wouldn't be able to fix it and I'd have to get windows 8. I plan to keep this computer until it can't be fixed anymore.

I just got 8.1 on this desktop but it is driving me nuts when I scroll-it turns the whole screen to gibberish. I constantly have to refresh. Computer guy says it needs a video card and he is looking for one for me.
Maybe eventually he can switch me over to 10.
My refurbished laptop is 7.

Did everyone upgrade to 10 today? I did. It is better than 8, but I am still learning.

Nope. Sticking with 7 as long as I can. I only have the PC to run accounting programs on, and TBH, I'm not sure if they'll run on Win 10 yet or not.
