I know it's just hair and it will grow back, but he looks so awful. I'm a bit upset, but my husband is having a FIT. We are taking him to the hair dresser after school tomorrow but he is going to look so funny with short hair. He cut the front to his scalp and big chunks out of the back and sides. he has a bald spot over his left ear.
Excuse his dirty face, he had been eating a chocolate donut.

And that's not dirt all over his shirt, it's hair.

Even that spot over his left ear, and from the front it looks cute!

Even that spot over his left ear, and from the front it looks cute! No, it's definitely not cute.
He said it was in his eyes. It was, which is why he had an appointment to get it cut TOMORROW. He couldn't wait one day?

this is temporary. Very few children dont not cut their hair! My daughter cut 6 inches off the side of her head while I was standing next to her. It happened sa fast! When I was 2 I cut my hair very similar to his when I was 2. Hey, it was the 70's we were apparently allowed to play with scissors at age 2 back then.
It is disappointing, but it is not the end of the world. Besides, you will be retelling this story with images for the rest of your days and laughing.

I stuck a bowl over my head when I was about 5 and cut bangs. My grandmother laughed her butt off.

I can't believe that he did this with safety scissors! I picked up a wad of hair out of his floor as big as my hand.

I've been there with DS cutting DD's hair. Yeah it's just hair but it's such a shock, I can't even explain how upset I was. They are teens now and it still makes me mad thinking about it because he was old enough to know better. Grrrr LOL
Personally with a boy I'd just dig out the clippers and buzz cut it, let it grow back out.

As parents we go "uuuugggghhhhh......whyyyyyyy did you do this"? But it seems to be a rite of passage for children his age to cut their own hair once. You may be horrified to look at the "new do" but probably half his class has weird hair cuts. Fortunately, it can be fixed and will grow back.

I had a widows peak when I was a small child. I clipped it and it never grew back. Just small hairs. I still think about it to this day.
Don't worry it could have been much worse. It will grow back. Hairdressers are amazing today. Post a new picture after his "after" tomorrow.

I can't get over the look on his face. He looks 1/2 contrite and 1/2 proud of himself. You captured his emotions perfectly.

Oh trust me he just looks contrite. He was just as tickled with himself as he could be. Not an ounce of regret or shame!

On the bright side, he seems to have a good understanding of logic Maybe he'll develop patience as he gets older.

I remember when my eldest son (beautiful toe-head) chopped his hair at the age of 4. Oh, and my DD whacked a huge chunk of hair off the top of my ex's Samoyed at that age. But luckily, for some reason she never cut her own hair. WHEW!

Can your son please talk to my son? His hair is growing WILD and he WANTS it in his eyes. UGH! I like a short, clean cut. He wants to look like my brother in the 90's with his mullet Yes, I know. It's awful for right now. I would also just buzz it then let it grow out.

Ohhh, I am so sorry. I remember how distraught I was when my son did the same thing. I wanted to cry. His cut was much worse and we ended up with a wiffle haircut which I hated.
It seems horrible now, but when he is a teen, you will look back on this and smile.
He is a cutie. I want to hug him.

Hair in the eyes? Well, I'll fix THAT! said little Mr. Fix-It!
He'll grow up to make you one proud mamma.

Ronda - Sorry I have to laugh!!! It is truly a right of passage for mostly all kids! At least he got the hair out of his eyes. He's really coming into his own person.

Have to laugh cause my son did it too when he was small. When he was not quite 5 he was in in my brothers wedding. He had a sort of Prince Valiant cut and everyone told him how cute he was. A couple of days later he totally hacked his hair off, down to the scalp in places, and he said it was because he was a boy and boy's aren't cute. It was so short and choppy we had to get him a buzz cut. But dang, he loved it and has worn a version of a buzz ever since. Good thing he went in the military cause the cut fits right in.

30 some odd years ago, one morning, I went into my 5 year old daughter's bedroom to vacuum. There on the floor was a large pile of what looked like an animal. She was busy eating her cereal at the kitchen table like nothing happened. Once I was over the initial shock, I realized it was human hair. She had cut her thick, waist length hair, straight back on both sides at cheek bone height. I had to laugh because she was so matter of fact about it! To this day she is still impulsive and knows what she likes

awww. My daughter keeps getting Jaxson's hair cut verrry short. He almost looks bald in some pics since he has blonde hair. When you even it up, it will still be longer than Jaxson's.

It was so bad they let him wear his hat all day today.
Well here's his after pic. She had to cut it sooo short, he doesn't look like Michael anymore. She even had to shave it above his hears because he had cut a bald spot on one side there. At least it's even...

About 10 or 11 years ago my son (now 18) not only cut his own hair, but he cut his eyebrows completely off. It looked strange and it took them forever to grow back. I mentioned it to him a few months ago and he said something like, "I have no idea why I did that."

Put a little water on it and see what it looks like spiked up. Bet it's cute, looks like it's the right length for it.
