Sounds like something that I may need. I have been using the pressurized spray container. With the vast amount of flower beds that I spray, it gets very challenging. With this many weeds this early in the year, I am going to need as much assistance with this attack as possible. Desire Do you have the Comfort Wand or the Sure Shot Wand?

We just yank and pull weeds ourselves, but there are only a few spots where we need to do that, so it's no big deal. What we battle is moss that eats into roofs and patios. We clean the roof by hand but we rent a pressure-washer for the patio and walkways as that stuff is really hard to get rid of once it roots into the cement. I'm sick and tired of that dayumed roof, though - up and down on that ladder and hauling huge bags of tree droppings and moss, and it's every four months. Some people here have zinc roofs to try to combat that, but they're butt ugly and when I was out running I saw one of those roofs with moss on it lol. I guess we can hire people as some do, but so far we're still doing it ourselves.
We had a tiler come to look at our floors and give us an estimate, but we have to get an asbestos check first, then we'll start the project. It will be good to get that done as we'll also be replacing the laundry room sink. The last time we had a lot of renos it was five months - we're hoping this won't be such an ordeal, but it's a lot of lino and tiling to be done.
We have our break in the rain - I went to the gym today but didn't have any puff - it was really crowded and so stuffy that I finally gave up after 2 1/2 miles on the treadmill and some weightlifting. I'm going out for a comfortable, peaceful run outdoors tomorrow - I've been avoiding outdoor exercise due to this noisy cough I still have, but I'm going nuts indoors. I'm not going anywhere tomorrow afterwards, so can cough all I want at home.

Chap, have you tried Mucinex D, which is kept behind the counter? You don't need a prescription, but do need ID and sign for it. It's the only thing that got rid of a persistent cough I've had twice and highly recommend.

Kritter - I use the plain comfort wand. It comes with the batteries in it, I've never had to replace any of them. The sure shot with the little cup edge would be something that I know would be broken after one season. I buy the Round-up refills and just refill the comfort wand containers. For some reason, the stuff you mix yourself doesn't work well for me and it's too messy to deal with. The comfort wand once in a great while will feel like it's stuck after a long session, nothing sprays out, but I just keep holding the lever down and it clears up fast. I could just no longer keep pumping that pump. I can go around the entire house and not stop with the comfort wand. It's so easy, you need to try it.

Desire...does RoundUp kill the good plants that are close-by?

Desire ...does RoundUp kill the good plants that are close-by? Densie, We have so many shrubs that are close to each other with weeds that may grow up between them. We've never had a problem with anything dying from over-spray. The end of the WAND on Round-up has an adjustable spray pattern, wide and narrow. I put it on wide when spraying all the grass around the pool fence out on the grass side and on narrow when doing weeds near shrubs for more precision. In order for Roundup to work, you need to spray the leaves of the weed thoroughly. The solution travels down to the root of the weed and kills the root. If you spray round-up on mulch or existing loam, it won't keep future weeds from coming up. It needs to hit the leafy part of the weed, and it needs to be somewhat saturated. The only place I would not trust to use it would be in a confined flower pot or tomato/vegetable potted plants. That would be too close for me to consider. But out in the open, no problem. I've been using it for over 25 years with no problems. Do not use the small windex-size trigger spray bottles of Round-up spray. They spray out too wide and they are much too hard to use. Your hand would be exhausted and your back will kill you from bending over to hit the weeds, as you can't spray it from up in the air. You need to use a container with a long wand where you can get it almost right up on top of the weeds.

Thanks for the info! I have weed killer, but it isn't Round-Up. And I use it for the poison ivy that grows under my pines and on the weeds that are about a foot away from my plants.
I wasn't sure that if it would rain, the the stuff would wash into the good plants. In the front of my house, I have several flowering bushes and the wild violets grow almost solid on the river rock.

Don't spray if rain is in the forecast for at least 12 hours. The weed killer will have soaked into the weed leaves by then. Some killers say you can spray with rain coming sooner but I take no chances.

Don't kill the violets! I know technically they're considered an invasive plant but they're sooooooooo pretty!

I agree that they are pretty, and I will probably just leave them grow since I can't control them.
