Mine is closer than that. But it doesn't mean that's the store the delivery is coming from. I have competition. I did a drive thru the complex yesterday just before dark and one apartment was putting up their decorations. They're in a townhouse so they have a direct entry, no breezeway. They wrapped the column at their front door with ribbon in sort of a candy cane look and they also wrapped the tree and hedge in front of their unit with lights. I'll have to go by after dark this weekend and see how the finished product looks. I thought about putting net lights on the shrubs by the end of my apt, by the breezeway. However there are spider nests in those hedges. Ugh. I don't want to win that badly But that's ok. I'm not finished with my decorations yet.

Good luck, Val! I used to do the candy-cane thing with plastic red ribbon and strings of lights on my 2 front columns. But now I refuse to climb a 12-foot ladder.
Ugh to spiders. But don't they die when it gets colder? They do here, anyway. It's one great advantage to freezing weather.

jes-have you considered a post-op shoe-boot? I have that same problem, thanks to my "chemo from heck". It affects my finger and toenails. My left big toenail is loose, bleeding and infected. It hurts like heck and I can't wear a shoe. Today I remembered that I have a post-op boot that I got 4 years ago when I had the same problem. So I was able to get some shopping done today with less pain. I think at this point (3 weeks in) I am doing ok with just the crocs. When I put on a regular shoe it still squeezes it and it is tender, but I wouldn't say it's very painful. If I left it on for a while it might be, lol. I like to do exercise videos each morning and I've been having to stick to the stationary bike. Also walking the dog in the crocs is a bit of a pain. So all just irritating but nothing unmanageable.
Wonderful pictures, Chap! Wow, that is a lot of participants I am not a runner, but I live in a very humid climate and I can only imagine how difficult that would be. In fact, probably the major reason I have the stationary bike and videos. Indoor a/c exercise is my vibe
It was an ugly day yesterday, very gray and damp. Today it's a bit sunnier and breezy so pretty nice. There's a big chance of thunderstorms tomorrow evening, poor Janey. For us it can't be any worse than the schizophrenic man screaming in front of our house at night. Tuesday night he was out at midnight. Door SLAM then screaming at the top of his lungs. It wakes you up with such a start that it takes forever to get back to sleep. I really wish there was something that could be done. It's not like we live rural with the houses far apart. This is a densely populated urban neighborhood.

Jes, you REALLY need to call the police every time he does that. At some point, medical issues aside, the cops will HAVE to charge him with disturbing the peace at the least. You and the rest of the neighbors have a legal right to peace and quiet at night. Denise, we don't get cold enough here to freeze any bugs. Plus, spiders don't freeze, but many do hibernate in colder weather. I ordered some candy cane stake lights from WM. The green ones are fine, but the red ones are a customer return and they were returned without the stakes - basically useless. Guess I'll brave the store at some point and take back all my returns. I ordered another set, but opted for store pickup so I can check the condition before leaving the parking lot Soooooooo happy it's Thursday. It's been a loooooooooong week

Jes, maybe neighbors should start recording his antics. Speak to the parents about doing something to keep him indoors and quiet or go to authorities and court if necessary. There are ordinances about nuisance neighbors and police are supposed to come out when called. Shame on his parents for allowing him to disrupt the neighborhood, especially when people are trying to sleep. texaslawhelp.org/article/bad-neighbors-what-is-nuisance

My daughter just called and is going nuts. She has been called for jury duty in Pittsburgh the end of January for a Supreme Court case! She sure as heck doesn't want to have to drive to Pittsburgh with possible snowy roads and horrible traffic. If it was in our county seat-2 miles away, it wouldn't be a problem. But Pittsburgh is impossible to drive in.
My oncologist gave me an excuse 21 years ago from jury duty since he doesn't want me to be sequestered with my low immunities. TG.

Nice try, Stay, but if a spider is stupid enough to enter my premises, it dies. I'll leave them alone outside, although I do try to discourage them from nesting by the front door and on the patio. Aaaaaaannnnnndddd I got another damaged customer return item, this time from Amazon (not the first time, either). Good thing neither the WM or AMZ items are gifts. Plus the Command hooks I ordered on AMZ were bad - about half didn't stick (and yes I did follow the directions LOL). From here on out, I get the Command hooks from Walmart. I wonder if the hooks from AMZ are old stock and been in a hot warehouse forever? I've never had any issues with the ones I got from Walmart (but then they turn over really fast at WM).

For some reason, I don't mind the spiders with skinny legs. But the ones with fat legs are pure evil. If they are outside, I let them live, but my house is off-limits.

Val they could be counterfeit. Are they from the actual supplier store? 3m or whomever makes them.

I don't recall, but the packaging matches the other pack I have from WM. I suspect they're old stock, and were in the heat of the warehouse for a while. The ones at WM turn over really fast, especially this time of year. But I finally got enough to stick. I'm tossing the rest of the package. I'll get some from WM next Christmas if I have to replace any.
Cloudy and rainy here today with a mild cold front moving in this evening, with lots of wind tomorrow. I'll put the luminarias out Sunday, after the wind goes away.

Ugh Val. All spiders must die. And centipedes. My mom had the WORST arachnophobia! At Halloween time we'd have to go through all her catalogs and magazines and tear out the pictures. She even kept a sticker over the picture on the poison spray can lol.
Stay, thank you for that information. Maybe it can be reported as a nuisance. I see there's an online form for that. I have texted my neighbor to ask her if she is finding it a nuisance, and I will try to catch my other neighbors soon and ask them. Maybe they'd be willing to file online complaints, too. The trouble with calling the police is that if it's the non emergency number it takes at least two hours for them to respond and he's back inside the house at that points (typically). But I don't really know if it meets the standards for a 911 call. I can tell the dad is afraid of him but I've not seen him harm him in any way. He was diagnosed close to a decade ago and this only started about a year and a half ago or so, so apparently something changed. I feel for them but I am SICK of it!
DH's company has their Christmas party today. If I'm lucky he'll snag a few goodies for me before the ladies in the office get them all

If it were me, I'd be calling 911. Just because he hasn't harmed himself or anyone else YET doesn't mean he won't. Calling 911 might also get him the treatment he clearly needs, depending on state mental health laws. Everyone in the neighborhood thought my across the street neighbor in ABQ was harmless. Until the day he shot up the neighborhood. Fortunately he had lousy aim and only damaged a few cars.

Jes...I agree. So many of the mass shootings could have been prevented if the parents had done their job to seek the help needed.
I am not as bad as your mom. But when someone posts a picture on Facebook of a spider, I have to delete it. Meanwhile, my daughter is scared of fuzzy caterpillars. No idea why.

We live pretty harmoniously with spiders here (we have lots of them and one is poisonous) - if they stay up in the ceiling corners, that's fine, they take care of any pests, but if they're lurking around closer to eye level or running around on the floor or in the bathtub, I catch them with a glass and a piece of cardstock and usher them outside.
That cat commercial is an absolute genius classic!
It finally stopped raining - the local lake broke its banks and is sitting all over the place and everything is a swamp. We'll dry out for a few days before the rain starts up again - I think we got like 5-6 inches of rain in a couple of days. Out on the peninsula (Olympic rainforest), they get 12 inches a DAY, and about 130 inches a year. You'd be surprised how many people live out there - you just get used to it. Once I did a mountainbike race out there and it was so wet I was pulling off my riding boots and dumping water out of them. Nothing like that here.

He may be their son but he isn't a little kid. They can't control an adult, even force to him to take meds or commit him for treatment. This is a terrible problem to have with no solution, really. Still, it's not the neighbors problem and they are entitled to quiet enjoyment of their homes and sleep. Perhaps some kind of petition would work or serial complaints filed from multiple neighbors. Does your city have a department of mental health that you could call and get advice? I know that here in NYC nothing is done about the nuts on the streets until they commit a crime and even then they are released on bail pretty quick. It's a very tough problem.

He is disturbing the peace at an unreasonable hour. Call the police. I would be on the phone to the police every night that he is out there yelling. That being said, I am on the phone to the police every freaking time my neighbor runs his inground sprinkling system on a day that he is not scheduled to water. We are under tight drought water restrictions for landscape watering. I take no prisoners.

I like the way ABQ handles water issues. There is a special number you can call to report water offenders. Water dept has ticketing authority and doesn't hesitate to issue penalties. Repeat penalties can get quite expensive.

San Antonio does that too. In Alamo Heights we call the police department directly and they swing around and hand the water wasters a citation. We have our own water system so are not under the San Antonio ordinance.

Guy didn’t show up for work this morning. I was called to see if I could come in at 11. I was more concerned about the guy not showing up. He is 76 or 77. He called about 9 to say he overslept.
Got my walk in early. Going to flood today so I wanted to get out.

I'm glad the guy's o.k. I take it he's coming in so you don't have to?
Speaking of work, my captain is having a heck of a time trying to find someone to work 2 days a week first shift. Either guys are scheduled to interview and don't show up or have courtesy to call, or the one who was hired didn't disclose handicaps preventing him from doing that shift and had the balls to tell the captain to switch shifts so he could sit on his azz watching dvds, which he asked about during his interview, so he didn't last.
