Good morning, everyone! Wow, half the year almost over already. Today is Memorial Day, to honor those who gave their lives for our country. No mail today. We're finally going into the 80s this week until dropping back into 70s by weekend. I don't mind the warmer weather, just hate the humidity that comes with it. Hope everyone has a great day, especially those off work for the holiday.

I just tried to log into my bank. Website said my login info was wrong. So I tried the phone app. Said info was wrong. So I called the 800#, where I was told my SSN and account # were wrong. WTH? I finally got thru to the new account department and was told their entire system was down. Whew. I was afraid I'd been hacked. Other than that, it's a quiet day

Good luck getting the new recruits in order, labbypaws. Don't recall hearing (or seeing pic) of Halligan.
What a gorgeous week! Mid to upper 80s until dropping back in 70s by Sunday. The best part is it's still low humidity which makes a huge difference to me enjoying the embracing warmth or scowling with instant sweat from the humidity.
I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day. Someone close was setting off a firecracker sparsely Sunday starting around 10:20pm til 11pm. What ticked me off besides being too late to begin with, every time one went off, there would be silence making me think whoever was done and another would go off. Last night there were only a few more, a bit louder and stopped just after 10pm. DH had gone to bed early and got up grumbling, but that was it, thank goodness.

Good for Bunker!
Quiet Memorial Day here - we had some sun which is unusual for this weekend but it's back to gray and in the 50s - the heavy cloud cover finally burns off a bit by mid-afternoon, but is back in the evening. We're supposed to have another warm spell coming up, though. Next weekend we go east of the mountains where the DH has a hilly training century and I have the 10-miler there. Yeah, well, it's supposed to hit 91 - needless to say I'm going shortly after dawn - part of the course has no tree cover at all and the sun just beats on you mile after mile of desert. Early morning should be much more pleasant. It's tough to get in any heat training over here.

That was sure scary, Val, and glad you weren't hacked. That would have freaked me out big time.
How's the critter situation?

From what I can tell, it's still up there. I saw a can of food on the edge of the hole in the ceiling over the weekend but I don't see it now so I guess it's been pulled farther in. Critter guy has not been by since last week when he put in the new can, maybe Wednesday? Guess I'll have to put in another maintenance request. I hear what I think is the critter at night, in a part of the ceiling that can't be a person because of where it's located (over my breakfast bar, no way for a person to walk there).

Those trash pandas can be fiendishly clever - I've seen them unlatch the lids on the trash trolleys we have and climb down to find whatever they like. There were a couple of them working on our little compost bin but fortunately it defeated them. They're always knocking over trash cans and riffling through the contents.

Hello everyone. Hope everyone had a nice long weekend. The VV had 1/2 off for Memorial day, I went to one on Sat and one on Sun. Didn't find a ton, but got some good prices. The one on Sunday was CROWDED too so I didn't linger. Never have liked a crowd, I think I get more claustrophobic as I get older. Monday DS and youngest DD came over for a visit and it was a really nice day
Weather-wise we are pretty hot, heading towards really hot lol. I just saw a meme on FB that was a picture of a stove and it said something like: To the new people Texas is just on pre-heat now
It's hard to believe the year is almost halfway over! Boy they go faster and faster every year. I read an interesting article recently about why you perceive time as going faster as you age. It has something to do with how we receive and process images to the brain. And when you're younger you process faster and it gives the illusion that time is slower; conversely as you age you process slower and it gives the illusion that time is going faster. And for all intents and purposes according to your brain time IS going faster. I try not to dwell on it as it has a way of freaking me out lol.
That's so frustrating Val! I wigged out about a big cockroach last night (thank God DH got it, in my defense, it flew around the room TWICE!) I can't imagine what I would do dealing with a mammal!

So are Phoenix and Tucson, although there you don't have to fight humidity. But they're both still HOT. I wouldn't mind some more rain though. What we've had so far put a big dent in the drought conditions but didn't totally eliminate it. Plus everything is really green from the recent rain and quite pretty. It would be nice if it could stay that way for the rest of the summer. High 80's on tap for the next week for us. Trim painters are here today. The building across the parking lot is starting to look really good. The tree trimmers came back today to chop up all the limbs they cut down last week. I think they did a good job of trimming the trees. I have a bit more light in my apartment now. It's a mostly north facing apartment so more natural light is a good thing

Got the vet visits out of the way. Of course we left there and I just got a message medicine is ready for two of my others. The one has a growth on his eyelid and the drops shrink it. The other one has bad arthritis. We just started using galliprant and it works well for him. Unfortunately it is expensive. He is almost 14 and we stopped his insurance 2 years ago.
Puppy is 17.3 pounds.
Nice weather here but getting too hot. I like walking in the morning and have spent just about every day going places so my walks are when I can fit them in.
And googling thing I keep receipts. Toyota said I didnβt pay for my maintenance contract. Yep I pulled out my receipt and sent it to them.

We need pics Labby! I am such a dunce. Why did I not realize until today that I could make my own low sodium (or salt free) salsa, and I could even make it with canned diced tomatoes? Duh. I made some by accident, more or less, yesterday when I was mixing up the filling for low carb taco stuffed bell peppers. I didn't have any tomato sauce or salsa per the recipe, so I opened a can of no salt added diced tomatoes, a can of green chiles, and mixed them up. I had some left over so I added a little seasoning to it this morning and ta-da! "Instant" salsa. It was really good in my omelette. Why did I not discover this before? Now I don't have to fight the crowd at Trader Joes to get their no salt added salsa. Plus home made, even with canned, tastes better and is much cheaper. Woo hoo!

We have gone 11 days without rain and lately we have been in the 80's. At least we haven't had much humidity so far.
I am about done with my outside chores, except for watering all of my veggies, flowers and bushes. So I am now staying inside more, although I still can't get much listed.

Those are some big doggie smiles!! It wasn't even out of the 40s when I rode my packages to the post office this morning - geez, I had on a long sleeve jersey and was cold going down the hills. The DH is calling this month "Mayurary" lol. It got up to 55 finally. It's supposed to be a more seasonal mid-60s now, but we get a hot day of 80-81 for two days, then back to 60s/low 70s - we never get a chance to acclimate - it's in the 50s and 60s, then BOOM, 80+. It's no wonder we get sun drunk around here. My running friend talked me into signing up for the Honolulu Marathon - "You'll be 70 this year!" Says he. "Time to do something BIG!". The DH doesn't think I'll be able to do it, not from want of resolution, but because my hips might not cooperate. He may as well have waved a red flag in front of me. I've done marathons before, but it has been a long time. My friend has done almost 150 marathons, just in the last 15 years, and has his training plan for me. Fortunately, not until December, but it's quite popular so one has to get an entry, plane tix, hotel early. jesmelric - I'm not sure very many people view crowds and crowded rooms the same after Covid. I caught Covid in a packed concourse getting into a Husky football game.

I caught Covid in a packed concourse getting into a Husky football game. How is your taste/smell doing chap? Mine is at about 97%. I still have a weird taste around the edge of my tongue that seems to be (VERY) slowly fading. And Coke is about 98% back with a bit of an after taste. And a few colognes/perfumes aren't quite 100%. It's hard to believe it's been two years and I'm not all the way back yet! Stupid Covid!
I got the yard mowed this morning. Evey week it seems to be a bit warmer and more humid, ugh. But the yard looks good I hope we get some rain soon.
I have a photo session to do on Saturday. I'm not looking forward to it, but it's always nice after to have a pile of fresh inventory to list. It should take me to the end of summer listing, or very close to it.

jesmelric - my sense of smell is back pretty much completely - curiously, it was off, dulled, off, dulled, sort of back and forth, then one day BAM! I could really smell things. But sense of taste is still a little dulled and 'off', just in general, but much improved from everything tasting like paste. Now things are kind of sour but not bad, and I can't taste everything, but most things. At least I can smell if something is off, even if not taste it, though I still ask the DH sometimes to check. Two years is a long time, but I understand some Covid symptoms can really drag on.

Geez, took the wagon (1997 Subaru Legacy) in for its 200,000 mile check and the only thing it needed beyond the usual oil service and check was to have a ball joint replaced (it was loose and making a clunking noise).

We had a major thunderstorm roll in last night, a little after midnight. It was thundering and rain was coming down really heavy when I went to bed. I woke up to flashing clocks and text notices of an internet outage. From my emails it appears power was out for about 30 minutes and internet was out for a little over 2 hours. All is on now though. It appears we may have more thunderstorms tonight. Works for me, it's really green and pretty here which was not the case for prior summers since I moved here. It raises the humidity (ugh) but still, I think I'll take a bit more humidity if it means I get to look at lush tropical green instead of brown and dry dusty sage green. I think I'm having a Monday The arm on the kitchen faucet popped off this morning. Closet door knob came off last night. Toilet handle broke in the master bathroom. Water pressure in the masterbath is down to next to nothing. Having spider issues again, plus swarms of mosquitoes every time I open my front door. The mosquito issue has been going on for awhile, I just never reported it. I didn't have mosquito issues at the last apartment, so it's something to do with this specific location. (A mosquito problem is probably better than a wasp problem though.) I turned in a bunch of maintenance requests today. Good thing I tidied up the apartment this week

Probably because your last apartment was on the second floor and mosquitos tend to stay closer to the ground so they can bite people and are closer to their breeding spots. Just the opposite of wasps who usually build their nests in higher locations.

I probably shouldn't ask, but has the (hopefully) last raccoon been apprehended and removed? At least you have other distractions to divert your attention.
I was checking out various things through Google last night and am deeply saddened to read our favorite bar in Chester, WV, Hot Shots, has closed permanently. Granted, we only went there on the way to the Mountaineer casino, which was infrequently as we live almost 2 hours away, but we loved not only how awesome the food was, but for an obvious locals bar (where the bartender knew everyone's name), we always felt welcomed and it was like we left every time having made new friends. It's just sad to see such wonderful places close their doors forever (supposedly going to be torn down and Wendy's built which is adding insult to injury) and getting harder to find small places like that.

Are there fewer bars than there used to be? I went to a play with my sister last night and we wanted to go out for a drink afterwards. We had a terrible time finding anywhere open at 11 pm on a Saturday night and finally circled back to the one not far from her house. It was super busy but we got our drinks and fries so all was good. Strange thing happened tho- we went to the counter and ordered and I handed the bartender a $20 figuring that would get our drinks and tip. She refused to take my money! I thought she was saying it was fake but no, she just paid for our drinks! I've had someone pay it forward (or backwards) at a Starbucks drive thru but never at a bar. My cider tasted even better than usual, lol :-)
Beautiful sunny, warm day here. I'm watching the older grands today so we'll go to the library later and then will take a walk downtown, go to the river and pick up a couple of rocks to paint, hit McDonalds and then go home. The house is quiet- they're both in their rooms reading. My coffee is ready- good times!

There are still plenty of bars around here, but overall I think a lot did close due to Covid and then trying to get enough help to stay open, which is probably why a lot (as well as other places) close earlier than usual. The last time DH and buttheads were out past midnight, they wound up at a bar that stayed open til 2am and served food because even Denny's closed at 11pm on Friday night.

Nope. I think there is still one up there. Critter guy hasn't been by in almost 2 weeks, so the trap is useless as the original can of food is history. Whatever. I can't do anything about it. I'm guessing it's thunderstorm season here. Big one came thru Friday night, another one last night although smaller, and now one is moving in. Lots of rain Friday night, a little bit of rain last night but not a lot, and I'm not sure if today's storm is bringing rain or just noise. We shall see
