It was overcast this morning but cleared up when I had to go to work. Temps dropping and will be cold for a while.

Chap, what sodium limit are you aiming for daily? If you're using the FDA/AHA recommended limit of 2300 mg daily and cook your own food from fresh (not processed), you can add salt and won't see a significant change in taste. One tip with a recipe is to increase herbs by 3x, eliminate the salt totally (except for beef), and sprinkle salt on the finished dish instead. The salt will then be the first thing you taste and it will fool your tastebuds. If your diet uses a lot of soy sauce, you might try subsitituting coconut amino instead, and add small sprinkle of salt on the finished meal. I use himalayan pink salt in a grinder jar, so I can actually see how much salt I'm "sprinking" on the finished item on my plate (I put a little bit in my palm then pick up a pinch to sprinkle, less than 1/8 of a tsp that way). When you cook with tomato based recipes, add a little brown sugar. You won't miss the salt when you do that. It was really hard for me, but at first I had to cut back to 1200 mg a day, which really IS hard. Now that I can go up to 2300 mg, it's a lot easier although most days I'm still around 1400-1800 out of habit unless I go out to eat or order delivery. I can even have reduced sodium bacon now BTW, your tastebuds get used to the reduced sodium in about 4-6 weeks. You may also need to add potassium to your diet (by food or supplement). It helps counteract the effect of sodium and can help in lowering blood pressure. www.heart.org/en/healthy-living/healthy-eating/eat-smart/sodium/potassium#:~:text=Foods%20with%20potassium%20can%20help,which%20helps%20lower%20blood%20pressure. Partly cloudy and 80 on tap for here today. I think around 1500 mg a day? I thought that was the proper amount. I've gotten Dak spice blends (also one Mrs Dash lemon pepper) to add to my food - I use no added salt at all - that's the first thing I stopped since it was so controllable. I already do take potassium since I sweat out electrolytes and keep potassium-rich foods in my diet as much as I can as that definitely is a concern. I used to throw soy sauce on everything, use miso for baking fish and the like and finally quit using it. I'll try the cocanut amino! My tastebuds are changing but it has been months of struggle, and what really happened is that I got Covid so now I can't taste much of anything unless it's strongly spiced. When I cut out the salt I began to lose interest in food so now I just eat a sort of same diet all the time. Yes, best thing is to not buy processed foods, but that's been tough for someone who is no longer interested in cooking, but I've been working on it. Mostly I've been dropping weight and I think that helps a lot, and that's been a lot easier than giving up the danged salt lol. At any rate, my BP is down 12 points now - it'll never be where the doc says it should be. When I did have it at 120/70 or whatever, I would get lightheaded and have dizzy spells. When it was higher I felt much better, so I'm aiming for a happy mean - maybe upper 120s or something. Does an air fryer help with low salt food prep? I'm still contemplating getting one, thinking it might help things along.

It was 19 degrees when the DH rode to work this morning. He said even under two pair of heavy gloves his hands were so numb by the time he reached the town where he works that he could barely work the shifters. Brrrr! I waited until mid-morning to go for a walk when I saw that it was brilliant blue outside - we don't get a lot of these days. By then it had hit 30 degrees and was snappy and cold, but refreshing. Plodding along as I do rather than dealing with wind chill at 20 MPH on a bike I stayed warm. I remember when I was a bike courier once riding at 11 degrees during one of our rare extreme cold spells. If I recall, I was wearing down and ski gloves. I was in my early 30s - not sure I could do that now!

Yesterday was in the 60s and I actually felt humidity in the air. Today, 20s with windchill making it feel like the teens. I have an 800 down parka that's warm and very lightweight and I still prefer my heavy combo of vintage M-65 military jacket or extreme cold weather camo parka with vintage quilted liner in each. Roomier, large pockets to fit essentials so no need for purse and both very warm. Had to get a few things at local grocery store and was nice to be out in a sunny, crisp day.

Our local newspaper had a big article today about thrifting, mostly about Poshmark and ThredUp. And how GW and SA use their profits to help others, etc.

Got up to snow this morning - it warmed up and we're having some sunshine. The DH is out on a ride. I'm just doing home chores today - may go for a short run later on, don't know. I have a 15K coming up April 1 and I have't really done jack to train for it except for a couple of fast pack hikes.
