My spoiled cats are getting more spoiled I just bought them another cat tree. It should fit at one end of my desk, looking out the glass doors to the balcony. Twila loves to look out them, so I'm hoping she'll enjoy looking out them from one of the higher perches. I can't do much about their ground level play area, but I can definitely give them a little more climbing up space. Guess I better stop surfing the net and get to work, since I have some serious deadlines this week.

We are still fairly busy at work. Not that bad thus far today though. Hopefully this is a sign they are starting to settle down.

I thought about planning a community yard sale here in our apartments. I asked the property management company if we were able to have yard sales. They said sure! As long as it wasn't in the complex. We could have it up on the sidewalk in front of the apartments. I told them I don't need their permission to have it up on the sidewalk, so in other words we can NOT have one...I have so much shit to get rid of it's choking me. I have a ton of NWT clothing that I'm trying to catalog and just get rid of for like 5% of the tag price.

Jeremy, do you have any flea markets where you live? Ours here are quite affordable and I've looked into getting a space myself for a few weekends. Then I decided I really didn't want to be around large groups of people for long periods of time

val2525 Angie and I are having a yard sale in Lee's yard in the early spring for Claus' CC&D. If you want, you can bring your stuff with special tags on it so we can figure out how much is your take at the end. Best place ever for a yard sale with the steady stream of traffic plus we will advertise on ND. I am already filling totes with stuff that I want gone.

My mom and I used to do a few flea markets in Portland quite a number of years ago. All of those have either shut down or have been converted to some various Hispanic operations. There might be one or two in the Metro area, but not sure. There is one place in Beaverton where you rent a space and they do all the sales and take a percentage plus space rent. I honestly think I might look into that one because I have SO MUCH STUFF to get rid of and I'd hate to just see it be donated.

I went to leave a review on Amazon and AMZ has decided that my account can no longer leave reviews. I have no idea why, either. I rarely leave a bad review, and if it's even slightly negative I make sure I list the good points of the item, along with whatever con point I have. Heck, most of the time I'm leaving 5 stars with the random 4 star. Plus, I never use product reviews to leave comments about sellers. I pretty much follow the review rules to a T. Oh well. I spend too much on AMZ anyway so I've decided this is the universe telling me I really don't need to shop on Amazon as much

Here go the flood of emotions, excitement and sadness. I cried in car yesterday not even sure whether they were happy or sad years, this is such a mash up of emotions. Today is the rehearsal and dinner, then DS staying the night with me and wedding tomorrow at 5pm. I think what is going to be the hardest is they have an empty chair with a white rose on it next to me for the ceremony, it just puts the all loss and emptiness right there in plain view. There is also a memorial table with DH pictures along with DH's parents and DIL to be grandparents too.
I am so very happy for DS and future DIL I just need to focus on that and breathe.
My sister and I are my son's only family going to be there, my mom and my aunt and uncle who are more like my mom and dad won't come because I cannot guarantee everyone is going to be vaccinated. I think everyone is but it is not for me or DS to ask everyone. DS didn't invite DH's brother because his wife gets sooo drunk then loud and he didn't want them at his wedding, sad but very understandable.
Hope everyone is having a great week and wish them a great weekend too.

I think everyone is but it is not for me or DS to ask everyone. It's YOUR event, and it's a private (vs public/gov't funded) event. You most certainly do have the right to inquire as to vaccination status of all invited guests. Two of the three types of business tax returns are due today, and I only have one left (missing one piece of info). The biz owner moved to Scotland, so with the time difference I'm not sure he'll reply in time. Plus the internet at the office is apparently off and on this morning after a power outage. I have a plan B though so I'm not overly worried. The only other deadline I have for the rest of the year is corporate returns, which are due 10/15. Well, and my personal return LOL. I do have a huge list of projects to start on, so at least I have billable time but the work can be done on my schedule. Up next week: listing on eBay again.

val2525 If you need any clothes shipping bags for first class, I have a lot of extras plus some Padded Fixed Rate too. The two new semi feral kits in the bathroom came out to play this morning. Probably should start reading to them at night but it is not very comfortable sitting on the tile floor for any length of time.

How about a thick folded towel on the edge of the bathtub to sit on? Or an audio book? You can play those on smart phones. Didn't you have to update your phone awhile back?

I should have phrased that differently, there was no point in asking anyone because I have not had the current booster (doctors orders for now antibodies are too high coupled with a horrendous reaction to the other shots which was determined to be an allergy to a chemical in vaccine) and they won't have anything to do with me so I knew they wouldn't come because of that. It's a whole ridiculous situation and DS has no tolerance for ridiculous and just decided it is what it is. My mom still hasn't visited me since DH died, I am too much out in the world was the first excuse and now it is not current on booster. In all honesty it is probably better they all don't come because it would just be awkward at this point. I am assembling a new family unit of friends that totally surround me with goodness and love.

LOLOL LOLOL Yes, I did but it was not to a smart phone. It is another basic flip that I don't have connected to the internet. I don't even think I have a SIM card in it.
Sitting on the rim of the bath tub on a folded towel sounds comfortable for about 5 minutes max. Reading is a comfort sport for me. Maybe I can graduate them to Terrell's room where I usually do my kitten reading. Will see how the next few days go.

I spend too much on AMZ anyway so I've decided this is the universe telling me I really don't need to shop on Amazon as much This happened to me. It ended up being because I bought a stainless steel water bottle and the seller said if you leave a review you get a discount on the bag for it. I wanted the bag anyway and I was going to leave a good review anyway so I went ahead and bought the bag with the discount. And she didn't specify a "good review" just a review. Well Amazon said the seller is buying feedback that way and if you participate you can never leave feedback again. BTW I have had TONS of sellers leave me cards in my package asking for feedback and offering a free item or discount on another item. I have contacted many and explained they are not allowed to do that. And they are still selling! And I can't ever leave feedback! Seems unfair, but whatever I guess.
I hope everyone is doing well this week. We went to see mom Monday and she was feeling well and in good spirits. Seems to be going well with the boyfriend, we'll see. They are coming here Monday for lunch and a scary movie so that should be fun
We had a bit of a cool front and lower humidity for a few days which was really nice, but we are going back to the same old same old tomorrow

Did you know they make office chair slipcovers, in all kinds of styles and colors? My new desk chair is black - ugh, boring - but it's also really comfy and just what I wanted (and should last for more than 6 months LOL). It's so comfy that every time I get up from it to go to get something, Simon immediately jumps up and gets comfy himself. I decided to try a chair cover. Five covers later, I found one that fit OK, the original order fit but had a blinding white zipper on hot pink and looked crappy on a chair with black arms. The next 2 didn't fit (despite saying they would, I measured my chair). The 4th one I didn't even try - instead of zippers and elastic at the hem, it had ties. Ties on a chair + cats = disaster waiting to happen . I went back to the first cover I ordered and checked out the other colors, to see what the zipper colors were. I ended up with "tiffany blue" which is aqua and an almost perfect match to my desk. Work is fun again! The fact that I upgraded to a nicer desk pad calendar helped as well. Hey, I spend anywhere from 5-8 hours a day at that desk, M-F so I want some fun stuff Search for office chair covers and you should be able to find some that fit your chair, no matter what style you have. If anyone needs extra hanging space inside, check out these over the door hangers. They don't collapse, but they are easy to take off the door and disasemble if you don't want to leave them up all the time. They work on the inside and outside of the door. I use mine for hang drying clothes. Now I don't have to use the ugly rolling rack in the living room. I think they might come in handy when I'm taking pics of inventory, too. www.amazon.com/dp/B097BDBLDQ?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsI bought one of this style, too, but once assembled only one side collapsed flat, the other still stuck out some. I'm returning it. www.amazon.com/dp/B08SNYS356?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

The roofers are here and are up there working like banshees replacing the roof and gutters. The DH said the first one up was this burly, husky guy who started tearing all the old shingling off and tossing it into a skip parked out front - then a squad showed up. Roofing around here can be frantic work because it really needs to be done before the rainy season, and we might have six weeks during the summer for everyone in the area to get all their roofing done if they don't want to deal with tarps and the like. I was really tired last night and slept a bit late - they were all up there banging away and I was sleeping through it, which fills the DH with envy (he can be a light sleeper). allikat - I hope the wedding is wonderful and fun! We've had to exclude family members, too, because they refuse to get vaccinated, and we're normally a very accepting "anything goes so long as no one gets hurt" bunch - completely their choice to not vax, but there are consequences. I always think people have the right to invite whom they like to such an occasion. My last wedding we just eloped to England lol, but it was a second wedding for both of us.

(((Alli))) I sure hope that everything goes okay. Families can be such a pain. I am glad that my family is down to me, my daughter and grandson. Nice office Val! I love the colors! You have 3 monitors? I am stuck with this 30 year old computer desk and nothing else will fit in this space, anyway. Fake wood with wood-grained contact paper on the surface to cover the worn spots. I did buy the wood grain Duck tape, but my hands are just too sore to try to use it along the edges. Yikes about the SS increase! The news said 9%, and Google says 8.7%. That is about a $90 increase for me which will kick me off Medicaid. I sure as heck can't pay the chemo co-pays. The increase will put me $70 over my limit, unless Medicaid will give leeways for costs. And the increased cost of a Medicare supplement monthly payment will put me back under the limit. So I don't know what will happen. Our weather has been great! Mid 70's and cool nights. Chap-I hope that your roof job goes well!

Nice office Val! I love the colors! You have 3 monitors? I am stuck with this 30 year old computer desk and nothing else will fit in this space, anyway. One is a PC with a second monitor, the other one (by itself) is my old Mac. My office is 100% remote for everyone, so it helps to have two separate computers rather than one with an extra 2 monitors. When I log into the office on the PC, any internet searching I need to do is really slow. If I use the Mac for that, it seems to be much faster. As for the desk, it's two folding desks by Origami. I've had them for years. I'm glad I bought them when I did, because since COVID hit, Origami has not offered the desk in colors, just black, white and sometimes gray. Bleah. Since they fold up, they're really easy to move from apt to apt, and since it's 2 desks, they're easier to arrange in whatever room my office is in.

Val-impressive set-up! My computer (only one monitor-lol) also faces the wall. And my TV is behind me. So I have a mirror resting against my tower as a type of rear-view mirror.
That way I can watch my TV all day while I am on this computer.....via the mirror.
I have to multitask!

Speaking of SS I am back thinking about pulling the plug. From what I have read it is much easier if I set the first payment to start In January. Just not sure what to do. Work did a huge “climate survey” in the spring and the employees (faculty and staff) responses let the college know everyone thinks we are underpaid (meaning the whole college faculty and staff is underpaid). Over 65% thought of leaving last year.
Anyway I turn 62 in November. Trying to wait until 65 but work is pretty bad. That is unless the board fires the president of the college based on the survey.

labbypaws - Hang on until you're fully vested, if you can. If you're in good health, it may not be good to retire early unless you've got a considerable amount of investments to live on as you lose a fair amount by it. I retired and started collecting at 66 and despite that being when I was fully vested, I still thought I was too young, but my profession had just collapsed. I hadn't wanted to retire until 70, earliest. I just scraped along with online sales because I felt suddenly weirdly disorientated (I was in my 60s going on 35 and honestly, had never been thrown completely out of work in 50+ years in the workforce), but if I had to do it over again, I would have just gotten another job doing something. With your skills and abilities, maybe you can find something less aggravating and better paying. I totally get why you're ready to move on, though!
Those roofers are a force of nature. There were like six guys working up there, and they just didn't stop all day. One break for lunch and that was it - nonstop hustle. They brought their own power supply, anything they needed they had, at the end of the day cleaned up all the debris around the house, spic and span, and took their four trucks and their skip off about 5:30 - we passed the skip on our way back from the store lol. They'll be back tomorrow and I wonder if they'll actually finish the job! Then we get the gutters installed (an allied company does that). The company is owned by a local man who just retired and who I think did the roof 30 years ago. That's kind of how it is here - people just stay, and if you have work done on your house, it might be the same people who did it years ago. That's a nice feeling.

We had the rehearsal last night, I am the first of the bridal party to walk to my seat. I cried standing in line I cried all the way to my seat. I hope it doesn't happen today. I am so happy for my son but the absence of his dad at this very special day is just breaking me. DS spent the night last night and we talked about it, I told him the tears are not because he is getting married it is because dad is not there. He said he already knew that and had explained to future DIL what he thought I emotional about. I will talk to her today directly, I don't want her to think I have any reservations about DS and her.
Today is the wedding, 5pm. I am heading to the venue around 2pm. Thanks everyone for the positive thoughts, it is going to be beautiful weather, the venue set up is beautiful.
Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday I will have a picture or two to share.

If you'll get retirement from the university, you're fully vested in that retirement plan. and eligible for retirement, then retire and take SS when it works for you. I have a friend who worked higher ed her whole life. She retired as soon as she was eligible from the university and took early SS. Even partially reduced SS when combined with retirement from other sources is enough for someone to live on. I took my SS early and I don't regret it. It is easier to enroll so that your first eligible month is January.
