Thanks guys. I'm still not really sure what's going on with dad, I spoke to my step mom yesterday evening. A tech mentioned renal failure to her, but no doctor has told her that. That's what FIL passed from, at that age there's no treatment for it. They cancelled the endoscopy then rescheduled it then cancelled it again? They are trying to get him off the ventilator. They still haven't given her any type of diagnosis. They live in a po-dunk town and when my dad had some health issues a few years ago he said they had two po-dunk hospitals and he didn't have any faith in them so I don't know if that's the issue or what. I am just continuing to pray because that's all there really is to do right now.
Now the nursing home has called my sister to tell her mom has covid. It seems to be a mild case at this point (knock on wood) with no fever, just congestion and feeling under the weather. We knew the boyfriend is really social and she is around him all the time so her exposure would be much higher. I believe she's had the second booster as well. We definitely won't be going on Monday. I'm trying to get the second booster scheduled for DH and myself.
Well on the good news side of things we had some actual rain yesterday!! And a few chances over the next few days, too. Also we went to a fun (and affordable!) estate sale on Saturday and I found a few things for ebay and a few vintage Christmas things for myself. And Saturday the church down the road is having their sale, that they haven't had since 2019 due to the pandemic (we will be wearing our KN95 masks) I hope they have 3 years of built us stuff lol.
I know due to our climate we have a/c just about everywhere here, but thinking about un-airconditioned thrift stores freaks me out lol.

Hope the doctors figure out what's wrong with your Dad and get him stabilized quickly!!
SO HOT here all week- yesterday we topped out at 103 at home but I drove thru an area where my car thermometer said 107. I know that's not very accurate but DANG it's still blazing hot for Portland. Tho everyone now complains about the heat and then grimaces and says 'oh well, at least it's not 115' like last summer. I'm babysitting the next few days; good thing I gave DS & family the air conditioner that wasn't effective in my sweatbox of a sewing room. Cool and comfy in here. Riley is having her abdominal surgery today at 1pm. She's at OHSU's childrens hospital so I know she's in good hands but still, toughts and prayers appreciated.

My wife told me to take the spider out instead of killing him. Went out. Had a few drinks. Nice guy. He's a web designer.

LOL Emerald!!!!!! I hope your mom and dad both get well soon, Jes. And good thoughts to Riley, Retro. The new kitty bed is a big hit: It appears Simon will have to wait until one of the girls gets bored with the bed before he can test it out. Meanwhile, he's snagged the prime spot on my desk since Trixie is hogging the pineapple bed.

We finally got some rain this afternoon. The temp dropped from 104 to 72 in less than 30 minutes. I went from trying not to overheat getting inventory picked up and unloaded to freezing cold. I know 72 isn't really cold but when you've had 100 for a month it feels cold.
Think we have rain forecasted every day through Sunday. Chance of flash flooding and high wind damage. I just want a light, long normal rain that soaks in. Is that too much to ask?

We need the same thing. Maybe 3 inches of rain over several days would be nice.

There's so many things to read and digest with every single plan. It just seems like if they don't get on one end, they'll get you on the other. I'm most comfortable keeping the current plan with a higher deductible. Sounds like you found a good plan for yourself though Val. No idea what I'll do when this comes around again next year. Just take it year by year I guess. At some point it will be completely unaffordable for me to keep. It almost was this year. The democrats seemed to make a breakthrough yesterday getting their bill-killing Senator onboard and they are addressing the healthcare insurance and Rx cost problems. Keep your fingers crossed that by next year there will be better and cheaper options. Don't lose hope.

The problem with health insurance is that we are paying a middleman (insurance company), who solely exists to make a profit. I'd rather pay monthly to a concierge-type plan where I'm paying my group of medical providers directly and get free (or extremely discounted) services. Totally dump the middleman. But whatever. Sunny and hot here but more normal temps, just double digit and not triple digit Now I have mud dauber wasps on my patio. I guess they're keeping the other wasps company. My next apartment complex is not going to have all the trees this one has. I'd rather pay a potentially higher power bill and be able to use my patio. It's not like the trees by my building offer that much shade anyway.

The new cat tree has arrived. I think Simon staked out his shelf because the girls have been hogging the pineapple bed. I wanted a second but smaller tree, for some extra "exercise equipment" for Twila & Simon.

Hot again today- I think it's supposed to be 100 for the next 3 days. Ugh! :-(
Thanks for asking about Riley. She had her surgery yesterday and the cyst they were going to remove was just a part of a larger problem. Apparently her liver was formed without ducts for bile; it's an extremely rare condition. They had to do another surgery that involved using a portion of her small intestine as a graft creating a duct to get the bile from her liver to her digestive system. It's a well established procedure but not without risk. But of course, not dealing with the liver problem at all is a greater risk. We're waiting to see how the graft succeeds before taking more steps. One day at a time, right? Looks like DD & I will be babysitting Ramona for another week. That's okay- it's one less thing for her parents to worry about.

Well, my favorite little Italian restaurant nearby just got their last order from me last night. They started out really good, but have gone downhill since they closed their other location. I'm tired of burnt food. I don't know if they don't care because carry out and delivery order customers don't complain or return the food, or what. But I do know what delivery and carry out customers will do - revise their Yelp and Google reviews from 5 stars to 1 star. Hot, sunny and 99 here today. I need to get my car inspected today so I can renew my car tag. Inspections here are "safety" only, no emissions. Pity, emissions inspections would definitely help with the air quality. On a brighter note, my flamingo door mat will be delivered today. Woo hoo!

Val, our favorite chain was Texas Roadhouse. Been going there many years. I know wait staff, kitchen help and cooks are hard to come by but it felt cheesy tonight. Almost like going to the old cafeteria steakhouses but you are served. The server was ok. All the food was cold. Took forever to get our main meal. Salad was warm, not crisp. We won’t be going back for a while.

The DH has the car today for one of his epic mountain rides. I was going to ride down to the lake to cool off. Instead a rush order comes in and I had to slog up the steep grades on my 3 speed to the post office. It's over 90 out. Blah. I'm reviving myself with some ice tea before climbing back up over the hills to get home. I don't know how I used to do this all day for a living. Being 30 years younger probably helped.
I hope Riley is doing well!

It was SO STINKING HOT here today and it's supposed to be a little hotter tomorrow before the heatwave lets up for awhile. I'm staying put with Ramona at her house with AC tomorrow. DD & I are splitting the babysitting- I'm the night shift, sleeping over so she has her own crib. I dropped her off this afternoon and went home, then immediately regretted it. Our living room topped off at 88 degrees; upstairs was horrible (about 94) but we have a box AC in our bedroom window that cools the room off to a tolerable temp. No idea how we managed the hot days when we were kids but I remember sleeping on a cot in our basement when I was in jr high & high school.
Riley seems to be stable and was able to drink some formula, and have a poop (a big deal for abdominal surgery) so that's a good sign. Of course it's too soon to know how the actual surgery is working- time will tell. Riley's parents are staying with her in the hospital room so between the hospital staff & doctors & mom & dad she's in good hands. :-)
Of course I haven't got a bit of work done. Had all kinds of ambitious plans but they'll have to wait.

Temps here are finally cooked off the last few days but only because we are getting flooding rain. I've needed to go to the bank all morning to drop off my rent check but the road between our house and the bank is under water. Guess I'll have to wait until Monday to do it.
Think the rain is suppose to stop for a bit this afternoon. Maybe we can at least get out and run to Sam's for some groceries before it starts up again.

Retro, that is indeed good news about Riley, I will continue to pray for her.
I still don't know if my dad has been given a diagnosis. I asked my step mom if they said he has renal failure, and she said: No, they just said his kidneys are shot. I mean is that some kind of diagnosis?! Today she has said he has refused a nasal feeding tube so they are going to give him iv nutrition. Also he seems to be hallucinating although they said he is stable and the kidneys and hemoglobin are better today. They did get him off the ventilator day before yesterday. But I mean he's 88 and kidneys are "shot" and he's not really eating, it's not looking good. I try not to badger her for details as I know she is exhausted. My dad is I think 18 or 19 years older than her and her mom is only like a year or two older than dad and she was caring for her mom due to Alzheimer's until they got her in a facility a month or so ago. And my half sister is 40 with a 2 year old and she lives with them. So she's got her plate full for sure.
Mom is still having a mild case of covid and come to find out the boyfriend has it too (big surprise) and is in quarantine too. They have transferred them to a sister facility that has more room and is outside the city proper, for 10 days. But I don't think they are allowed to be together in quarantine.
DH and I went to the church sale this morning, and didn't find too much. It was good to see most were wearing masks, though. Maybe 70% or so? Surprisingly!!
I got my new phone and have been trying to get everything switched and set up today, what a pain. Ugh. By the time I get all my settings they way I like them it will practically be time for a new phone lol. I thought it was the exact same model as the broken one, but it's slightly different so I have to get a new case. And I'm getting a screen protector!
We've been getting a bit of rain over the last few days and the high temps have been mid to upper 90s due to clouds/rain and that beats 100+ for sure.
