Good morning everyone! Tomorrow is officially first day of summer so at least it's a legit excuse for crazy hot weather. We got lucky over the weekend with temps in upper 60s and low 70s and felt like outdoor air conditioning, it was that nice. On our way upwards again but at lest it's not as bad as other parts of the country whether it's humid or dry heat. Reminder to stay hydrated and out of the sun and heat because I already know of one person hospitalized from heatstroke. Hope everyone has a healthy, happy week!

Tomorrow is the first day of summer and our highs for the next week are as follows: 100, 98, 99, 101, 103, 104, and 105. The average low is 80 It's starting to feel like it will NEVER be anything but hot. Any time I have errands I make sure I'm home by 10 am or so. It feels like that Twilight Zone episode where the temperature is going up and up and everyone is going to die of heat. Unfortunately it's not a dream and actually getting colder lol. Speaking of Twilight Zone, I hope they do a marathon on the 4th this year. DH and I decided we'll just have him grill steaks for the 4th as it's too hot to smoke ribs or anything that takes a while.
I went to get my mammo Saturday morning and after we decided to go to the Goodwill since we were right down the street. That took a awhile and when we got home we decided to hang the new ceiling fan since the old one went out. OMG what a pain!! We didn't technically have an argument per se; but he kept hollering at me about the flashlight (we had to turn off the breaker, which unfortunately the a/c is on so we were super hot, too) and I kept saying: I don't like your attitude. For some reason none of the hardware was labeled. And DH is a great DIY guy but we couldn't figure out the hardware and he had to stand on the bed because it's a king and it won't move far enough over, and so it was hurting his feet. And my arm was killing me from holding the flashlight and then the wiring was a while other ordeal and it took THREE HOURS! BTW we really like it though lol so at least there's that.
Well my sister is supposed to bring mom over for a meal today and I haven't heard from her so I don't even know what time they are coming, so I better get going. I will probably be able to take my laundry down soon even though I only hung it out an hour and a half ago because it's roasting dry pretty quickly

Not having to go to the post office is a nice rare treat today. Hunkering down and listing. Our drive to the other side of town yesterday ended up being halfway decent and the stores were pretty empty. It was a nice day.
Trying not to let my gas tank get under half before I refill. It was a little less than half full yesterday when we noticed gas for $5.26 a gallon. It still took $40 (Kia soul). grrr

I meant to add here is something interesting I came across. Apparently Margaret Hamilton was on Sesame Street in 1976 but it was deemed too scary for kids and never aired again. Someone has uploaded it to reddit, it's very cool: https://www.reddit.com/r/lostmedia/comments/vf7yu2/found_sesame_street_847_margaret_hamilton_wicked/

Sitting here with a sweater on and also had to go put socks on because my feet were freezing. It was so cold last night with heavy winds. So many leaves have fallen all over the place and hundreds are in the pool and skimmer basket. Today it's just 66 heading to 70 and it feels really cold if you aren't directly in the sun. The house feels colder inside than outside for a change. Won't complain though because we know the sweltering heat will soon be upon us, might as well enjoy nice outdoor working weather while we can.

Have ya'll bypassed summer and jumped ahead to fall? I just can't imagine 70 degrees for a high in the middle of June unless you are living in Siberia.
Your shorts, sandals, and pool weather must be all of 30 minutes or so before it is done and time to drag out the coats again.

We had a couple of nice days. Warming up now. Back to walking lately but trying not to take Aleve. I hate taking medication. I don’t think it made that much of a difference but will see how it goes. I stopped taking it when I started on the antiviral when I had Covid.

It's supposed to get into the upper 60s here today but I'll believe it when I see it. It's still in the 50s. I was sleeping in my robe the last couple of nights and the DH was sleeping in a long sleeved running shirt. No cats to keep us warm!
My last thrifting trip is turning into a bust - I keep finding problems that I didn't see in the thrift - I've got good eyesight, but the lighting in a lot of those places is really bad, and the stuff I'm finding is dye imperfections and the like. Ugh.

Our weather is still stuck on the rollercoaster. Had a gorgeous weekend around 70 and breeze was like air conditioning outside so perfect to be out and about. Started off the same today and temps and humidity gradually warming up. Tomorrow will be 94, then 90, 80s the rest of the week and 70s by Saturday. I actually like it. Just when you're ready to complain about the heat and humidity, you get a break before the next wave. I just hope if the rollercoaster gets stuck, it's not on the upper spectrum.

First day of summer is going to be a doozie here.
We went from 107 a week ago to just 85 today & tomorrow is supposed to only be 75 & torrential downpours. Starting to drizzle already & I battened down everything in the yard & have my fingers crossed we don't flood.
We've had so little rain the ground is hard as a rock & won't absorb a hard rain, there is going to be a lot of runoff.

Your shorts, sandals, and pool weather must be all of 30 minutes or so before it is done and time to drag out the coats again. This is worse than Fall when the leaves fall off the trees when they are dried up and dead. In Fall everything is closed up here, but in summer we are using the outdoors and it's now a mess. We had such heavy winds, yard looks like a hurricane went through it. Lawn mowing will take care of the leaves on the lawn, just need to gather up the larger branches. Pizzed off about all the leaves and branches all over the newly laid-down mulch. Can't win with Mother Nature. But at least it warmed up this afternoon and I got in some good garden work without sweltering, love to work outside in this type of weather. Only thing you can't do is Round-Up as it blows right away from where you try to spray it. The lawn mowing will take care of all the leaves on the lawn but we need to gather some of the larger branches first, then get the blower out.

We have ants in the kitchen. They're trailing on the lip of the counter near the caulking and up by the windowsill. Anyone know of any natural ways to to treat them? I know I could google but thought I'd ask for any tried and true tips here first before goign to the store to get something.

Okay, I'll pick some of those up at little WM when I go later. I guess I'm mostly trying to avoid sprays.

I have the same problem. What is working is a mixture of 1 Tablespoon borax, 3 Tablespoons sugar and 1/4 c. water. I mix it up in a small used soda bottle and pour some in a small cap and leave where they can find it. someone mentioned to me that cucumber works also: Rid ants with cucumberI haven't tried it yet.

Ugh. I think they use bad lighting on purpose just so the customers can't see the flaws!! I have that issue, too
Still really hot here, but it was slightly cloudy this morning which helped a bit. I think maybe next Tue or Wed we are supposed to go from extreme heat (hellfire hot) to more normal temps (scorching hot) Lol. Which actually will be a relief, especially if we can get in a few chances for rain.
I had mom and my sister here for a nice visit yesterday. Made a lunch, and we watched an old movie from 1940 called Christmas in July. A fun bit of fluff, easy plot for mom to follow. And she's still much happier at the new place, saying they are more caring and she receives better care. So that is good news indeed.
I'm hoping Value Village will do a 1/2 off sale for the Fourth, I need to go that weekend either way. And then start working on getting ready for a photo session. Ugh.

I just watched a short film on what to do if a nuclear bomb is about to explode or you see the bright flash. In 1951, this was serious. Today, it's kind of amusing to think of surviving by hiding under a desk and covering your neck and head to prevent being burned:

jesmelric - I'm glad to hear your mom is in a much better facility! It's the solstice and THE SUN IS OUT!!! :-o !!!! It's also almost 70!!!! My neighbourhood is deserted - I have a feeling everyone just down tools and ran off to play. Unfortunately, since I can't walk farther than the mailbox at the end of the road, I can't take a walk, but I can sit out on the back patio and read. I got too beat up at OTF yesterday evening to go for a bike ride (it's all hills here). Clouds are back tomorrow and it drops back into the 50s or 60s, so we're being teased.

I hate to be negative on all the natural remedies that I read about. It seems everything natural I try never works or gets to the bottom of the problem for an extended period so I need to get the chemical commercial products. Whether it's borax products for bugs, dish soap/vinegar mixtures for weeds, natural repellents for moles, etc. Nothing works for us except the commercial chemicals. And I've tried so many of the natural remedies and just gave up. The shelves in our garage look like a garden shop hardware store. Mole/gopher/vole poison was the only thing that got rid of our moles/voles. I just get too impatient so I hit things with the heavy commercial stuff.

I am with you on the chemical warfare bench. I don't waste any time anymore with the natural crap whether it is weeds or insects. I want something that works and keeps on working.
I also have a storeroom shelf of products for any pest that I have. When I want some pest gone, I want it gone for good.

My electric skillet gave up the ghost and my little George Foreman grill was about to do the same. I bought a slightly larger Foreman grill with the removable plates - why did I not buy this sooner? It's awesome. I replaced the skillet with a Dash Express grill that is the perfect size for an omelet and sprang for the Dash Egg Bite maker too. I think I'll try the egg bite maker over the weekend. I love buying fun kitchen gadgets

Getting warmer and more humid. Started out on my walk with Lola who is like a bull in a China shop. I didn’t want her to overheat (she is black and 12.5). I brought her home at 1.14 miles and switched her off for the next 2.4 miles. I wish we had more shade. Anyway they will be staying home as it gets warmer.

Correction to the one pic- it's "sandal", not "sandle". With all due respect to his elders, Terrell said that "sandle" is correct in cat spelling and if you had any cats, you would know that. Terrell is quite the cheeky brat, isn't he?
