Sharing this for all of the cake fanatics it was actually posted in the low cal fb ground that I belong to. Skipping the frosting and using a little redi whip. Finding the angel food cake took a little work work though. WM was sold out. I guess it's angel food and berry season so maybe that's why. It's cooling off now... made it a small tall Kerr jar. www.thecountrycook.net/3-2-1-microwave-mug-cake/ It's going to be 111 in my neck of the woods today but only 11% humidity

I must be a "white whale" for insurance companies hawking Medicare supplement plans. I won't even turn 65 until end of the year and I've lost track how many flyers I've gotten for free meals and mail for more info. Our phone, which used to be nice and quiet other than occasional robocall, rings at least 6-8 times a day that, after the answering machine picks up, is either the silent treatment or someone asking for me by my first name before hanging up. I guarantee unless someone makes a proper phone call, stating who they are and purpose of call, chances of me or DH picking up the phone are 0 (zero, nil, no way Jose, etc.)
Currently 90 with 57% humidity. Tomorrow 80, Saturday 66, then the rollercoaster weather starts going up again. Need to have car maintenance done soon and really overdue for a perm so hopefully will get that soon.

I draw the "you must want to sell your houses let me make you an unreasonably low offer because you seem desperate" mail and telemarketing, lol. I have settled 2 estates with 4 houses in them and flipped 3 houses in the last 2 years. They must all think that I have houses coming out my a** and I must need to give them away. Because I am a good business woman/manager I only have the one house I live in at this point, lol.

DH replaced the battery in our answering machine a few weeks ago. We're already getting the "low battery" message and a new battery usually lasts about a year.

Just a heads up, staytuned . When to sign up Generally, you’re first eligible to sign up for Part A and Part B starting 3 months before you turn 65 and ending 3 months after the month you turn 65.
Avoid the penalty If you don’t sign up for Part B when you’re first eligible, you might have to wait to sign up and go months without coverage. You might also pay a monthly penalty for as long as you have Part B. The penalty goes up the longer you wait to sign up. Easy to understand guide: www.medicare.gov/basics/get-started-with-medicareI'm eligible in November and my broker has already told me she'll be contacting me in August.

I mailed for the "Medicare and You" official guide a couple months ago and got it in a few days. Easy to understand and nice large type, too.

blissfullymiserable, how did the cake turn out? The recipe came up on my FB feed and I thought it sounded quick and easy but wondered how good it would be. I probably would try chocolate or carrot cake. Someone said it is a weight watchers recipe.

I did the chocolate cake a few years ago, and it was great. But I can't be trusted not to keep making cup after cup after cup. Same as the WW angel food cake with pineapple. Piece after piece.
I have lost 18 pounds lately by not having any goodies in my house. Need to lose at least 20 more.

Because I am a good business woman/manager I only have the one house I live in at this point, lol. We live in an area where they are tearing down the small postwar houses and building HUGE houses (mansions?) And I get offers in my mail, flyers on the door and phone calls. I probably get a minimum of 3 a week. I got a call yesterday and I don't even know why I answered. I was super irritated, "Take our number off your list! If I want to sell my house, I'll be reaching out to someone, stop calling!". They have literally knocked on my door before! I find it extremely irritating lol.
My FIL apparently didn't sign up for Medicare in a timely manner and by the time he figured it out the penalties were too high, it was like 2X what he would have paid if he signed up at the appropriate time. Thank goodness he was a veteran and had the VA. MIL had passed by then and he was very much an old such and such otherwise he probably would have had more help at the time.
This heat wave is relentless here. The next 10 days is showing no break and very little chance for rain
Poor Janey threw up in the night and was very distressed. I don't know if it was because she wasn't feeling well, or worried that she had done something wrong by throwing up in the house. Poor thing it was right by the back door, she obviously wanted to go out but we were asleep. I stayed up with her about an hour before she settled down. She seems fine this morning. Plenty of energy, good appetite, etc.

I probably would try chocolate or carrot cake. Someone said it is a weight watchers recipe. It was good. Kind of spongy looking as you’d expect with half cake and half angel food. Paired the angel food with dolly partons coconut cake. It’s nice to have one hand when you want something sweet. I like it with the whip cream. It would be good with strawberries on top. You do a lot of different things with the recipe. It foams up when you mix it so make sure you glass or whatever is tall enough. That Kerr jar was perfect

Congrats Denise! I decided to try to commit to weight loss after returning from the family reunion mid July. In the meantime I went to Kohls and stocked up on looser walking gear. I don’t like stuff that clings to the stomach. All my stuff fit but I just didn’t like the look.
Kohls changed hours so check before you go. I had to sit in the lot for 30 minutes.
We went to Oxford PA to day to meet my brother and his wife for lunch. It is a halfway point between his place and ours. We will probably meet there in the future. He is doing ok. Still getting infusions 4 times a day. He will go to John Hopkins the end of the month to see a pancreatitis specialist.

Ok, so DH turned 65 May 1. He is still working full time for another year and a half and has good insurance through his work (I am 60 and am also covered by his insurance), so he did not sign up for Medicare. But you’re saying he needs to sign up now anyway or face penalties when he does sign up?

Talk with an insurance broker, or someone at the insurance company through DH's work. They can help it make sense. The broker who handles the insurance for my company is helping me, even though I'm back to being an independent contractor and not covered on the company policy. When you enroll, there is a spot to put in the ID of any broker who helped you so they do get paid some.

But you’re saying he needs to sign up now anyway or face penalties when he does sign up? His company has to be over a certain size and it has to be credible insurance. Read up on the Boomer Benefits Facebook page. His HR should be able to guide him.

I signed up for Medicare A when I signed up for SS at age 66 (both happen simultaneously). The very helpful rep on the phone told me to hang onto the paperwork for Medicare B and file when my insurance under the DH's work lapses. We also get all of this stuff for 'olde folkes' - honestly - hit 65 and suddenly you've lost your hearing and your wits, apparently.
It's eerily dark out. Speech outside sounds kind of muffled and the clouds are really low.
Got a cortisone shot in my left heel and the foot is taped up. It has helped a lot, though I still have pain in the opposite side of my heel. The doc talked about a course of three shots.
Apparently I have high arches and started doing a lot of sprints and all-out speed work on the treadmill at OTF when previously I had just been doing periodic speed work and regular running. My drugstore orthotics are not up to the task and I worked myself into bad inflammation at the juncture of the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon, which is why it's so pinpoint, then radiates as I'm on my feet more. I've added yet MORE modalities to what I'd already been doing (the doc could see that I had run out of options). The weightlifting (lunges, squats etc., with heavy weight) was quite aggravating things.
Still slow on my feet and have some pain, but we'll see.
More came to light when he gave me the shot into my heel - it was momentarily painful - whoa! - then the pain started feeling kind of good. The doc is saying 'deep breaths, deep breaths' then he looks up and sees me in their comfy chair kind of smiling lol. The assistant said usually people make noise. After all the heel pain, I think ANYTHING is going to feel 'kind of good.' lol

Chap - treadmill bad for PF. Also the cortisone shots damage the fascia so do not do too many shots.

DH had PF and he swore by the SuperFeet Black DMP version. Had them in all his shoes, there are a lot of different versions of Superfeet and places where you can try them out to see if they feel good or not.

Chap - treadmill bad for PF. Also the cortisone shots damage the fascia so do not do too many shots. He said it's usually a course of 3 shots for bad cases, so I expect that's the limit - I'm still in the phase where it hurts more then starts resolving (I'm still limping) and am hoping to only need one or two. I'm careful with that stuff, too1 I'd run on a treadmill off and on for years, sometimes for up to 8 miles at a time, no problem, but I didn't sprint on them - the sprints were probably what created the problems with my weird foot mechanics, and I'll probably let those go when I get back to running. They really helped speed but maybe stick to the road for those! allikat - I just picked up a pair of Superfeet! The DH swears by them, too. I shopped for a while before choosing a pair. They're pricey but the DH says he has had the same pair in his hiking boots for about 10 years and they still work basically like new. I'll make a note of what your DH used.

Chap, maybe it's time to skip the running and move to biking and swimming/water workouts?
I am biking more. I'll go back to running when this foot thing is resolved. It's just a bit of a setback because I've been running for so long and it's done so much for my wonky hips and I can participate in races, which I can't do anymore on the bike. I've never had an actual running injury before in all the thousands of miles I've logged. But I need to at least be able to walk distances because vacation plans are being held up on my inability to walk anywhere.
My running friend also rides so I'm trying to get him out to do some 'cafe racing' lol - i.e., ride to the coffee house or beer garden and back. He totally wants to but his schedule is so screwy. Also I'm looking for a group of moderate speed bike riders to ride with - we have a huge club in the area and they have quite a few rides, so there are opportunities there.
I just need to get so I can walk more than an eighth of a mile - this is just crazy. I had PF in my right foot and I cured it with walking barefoot, and even when I had it I could walk two or three miles.

Chap the trainer told me there is a breaking in period for SuperFeet. In another words, don’t just start wearing them all day. I never bought them so I never asked for the info and he is on summer break now.

Chap-did you go to a podiatrist for orthodics? I had PF many years ago and I got $600 inserts custom made for me and my health care covered the cost.

Chap, DH could tell as soon as the Superfeet started to get too old, he would get a twinge and hint that PF was threatening to come back. He would immediately toss that pair and replace. Once he was fitted and bought the first pair in store, we then purchased on eBay. I gave the few new pairs that were here to future DIL and she says that have helped her took, she is a runner, half marathons and marathons .

I got a call a few months ago from someone asking if I wanted to sell my house. I told her I wanted one million dollars. She asked if I could come down on the price at all, and I said $950,000. She said she would have to call me back. I'm still waiting. :-)

I'm seeing a podiatrist now - I'll bring them in along with the wooden forms for him to look at. The problem with the pair I got was that they're not supposed to get wet, and they also have a sort of weird little heel wedge - I really hated them. Also, they were for hiking boots and running shoes and I'm not sure how they're any good if they're not supposed to get wet - it's the Pac NW???! Even Goretex doesn't always work and running shoes aren't made of Goretex, and I didn't want to go back and forth between orthotics and no orthotics, just because it was dry enough to wear them - that's not particularly helpful. Thanks for the tips, everyone! The doc says no orthotics right now - my foot is just taped up. I have the Spenco drugstore kind that worked for years (until I started sprinting) - I'm used to those and they're soft on the heels so I'm continuing to use those.

Real estate is on fire here. Some days I'm inundated with calls from people asking me if I want to sell my house. I always ignore them but last week I was waiting on a call for some lab results so I answere all the local calls. It can be beyond annoying.

We get junk mail offering to buyer our house and I hate those stupid calls, too. The DH wants to sell before the market cools off - we were talking about moving up to Bellingham. It's going to be hard to dig me out of here, though - I like where we are.
It's supposed to dry out a bit next week - we've got moss growing on our moss its been so wet; its even growing on some of our back roads and is really treacherous and slick. It's raining again right now, so we'll see.

Real Estate is crazy around here too, DS bought his house April 2021 for 300K, he could sell today with multiple offers for 500K+, it is a little 3 bedroom 2 bathroom rancher. A house just down the street from me just sold for 1.1M, they have a little more land than I do and a pool, we paid 300K in 2006. It would be a great time for either of us to sell but we like our houses and the area. In this crazy market the big question is where are you going to move to that you are not equally overpaying for a house, if DS and future DIL's jobs moved to a different area or something like that, we would both sell and move. I have a full MIL apartment in my basement, we have even entertained the idea of combining households eventually but we are not ready for that yet either.
The market is starting to level out and slow in certain areas around here, I am very glad I am not holding any flip houses at this point as I really feel the economy is going to affect real estate soon.
Went to local semi pro baseball game last night with DS and future DIL, our real estate agent gave us tickets, had a great time with them. We went to a brewery for a beer first then there were fireworks afterwards. I get to dog sit today and overnight. Then I dog sit from Wednesday to Sunday again.
Woke up to 54 degrees this morning, feels like fall. I know it will hazy, hot and humid again soon but what a pleasant couple of days in the 70s.
