I received all of my items today plus 2 containers of potato chips snack bags..all through FedEx in 2 gigantic boxes with lots of air pillows. So the trip was worth it. It was kind of strange that they send individual notices of delivery for each item. I feel better.

The office sent a pest control guy over yesteday. He said he didn't see any nests and he sprayed what was on the balcony. The wasps were back in full force today, even more than yesterday. I'm going to order some wasp spray at Walmart and just start spraying daily I guess. Looks like the kitties and I won't be using the balcony anytime soon. Kitty TV was really good today. Twila sat by the sliding glass door and watched for hours. Wasps, bees, the random little bird, a butterfly, and even a hummingbird. She's going to be really tired tonight when it gets dark and there isn't anything to watch in the dark

My sister says Sevin dust works, val2525. Have you tried that? She puts hers behind the shutters on the house. She uses a turkey baster to do it.

I visited our kitteh cemetery today, brushed away the overgrowth over the little gravestones (it takes no time for vegetation to grow up around them) and contemplated how many years had passed with these two little guys - I was still pretty young when they moved in with Pat. There's a third cat buried under a nearby tree but the DH never got a gravestone for her (one of his cats), and I'm thinking we might want to do that.
Still no cats until we go overseas for a while and return (we don't want to get cats, then leave them only a few months later for a stay overseas, even with our nice petsitter it doesn't feel fair to them). We can't go overseas until I can walk again and by then it'll be summer, and I'm adamantly against traveling in tourist season, even to the offbeat places where we go (we still have to fly into Heathrow - just no). So this winter I hope we can have cats again - it's tough having no pets to care for.

We had a plague of them in our area about 5 years ago when we were cleaning out my dads estate. The thing that worked for us were the yellow plastic hanging bee traps like this. We were overwhelmed at our home and my dads farm estate I was clearing to sell. There were nests in the metal siding of the trailer, barn, garage and even nests in the ground!! Wasp spray helped too but the actual nest may not be where you're located. Good luck!!

My sister says Sevin dust works, val2525. Have you tried that? She puts hers behind the shutters on the house. She uses a turkey baster to do it. There isn't anywhere on my balcony to put a powder. The problem is high up, on the light strands and the ceiling. I also don't like the idea of using a powder that can get blown everywhere and the cats possibly get into it. Wasps are back today (again). At least Twila is enjoying the view. I'm going to order some wasp spray and I'll start spraying daily. The residue from the spray will also help kill some new wasps. I'm also ordering a wasp trap to hang out on the balcony. I've NEVER had wasp problems like this before. The pest control guy says it's because of the heat, but I've always lived in hot summer climate areas and never had a problem of this magnitude. Not overseas, not in VA, not in CA, not in AL, not in FL, not in LA, not in NM, not in AZ and not in TX before this. There is nothing on the patio to attract bugs - no real plants, no standing water, no food sources, nothing. Hmnn. Maybe I'll order 2 wasp traps instead of just one.

That's similar to the wasp trap I'm ordering from WM, and WM is much cheaper. The pest guy said there were no nests nearby, and the buggers keep trying to build new nests on my balcony. Personally, I suspect there is a nest in the gutters (that desperately need to be cleaned out BTW) but I can't get on the patio to look. I'm looking at other places to move to when my lease is up. Maybe I should add "no trees by building" to my "must have" list

PSA If anybody has the Citi Custom Cash card there is a promo going on between now and the end of July. You can get an extra 4% cash back on your chosen category. My category is grocery where I get 5% cash back all year and now I will get 9% cash back during the promo period.
Needless to say, I will be at HEB for everything even more than I usually am. I love cash back.

Apparently it was a repeat on Kitty TV today as Twila stopped watching earlier than usual and took a nap. Or maybe she's just worn out from the binge watching yesterday and then the playing she and Simon did last night.

That binge watching can be so tiring for a kitten.
That is why I stay away from binge house cleaning. I don't want to wear the kits out dodging the vacuum cleaner.

Steady rain outside, and although it's supposed to be in the low 60s, it feels chilly and I'm wearing a robe over my clothing. A good day to do indoor things.

Eh - I'll probably be given a vacation or kicked off the eBay forums. One of the jackass monitors upbraided me for "excessive text styling conveying disrespect to another poster" or some such. I used caps (which the original poster had used) and periods for emphasis. It was yet another poster screaming in caps about some 'new tax', i.e., no new tax.
I told the mod that this was excessive, and did they nuke the OP which was all in caps and screaming? Did they nuke the posts with members insulting mentors trying to help? No.
"Text styling" - what horseshit.

Like I don’t have enough bad crap going on, my female black Lab is sick today. Has to be Friday and not a Monday. Right now I am watching her. She is almost 13. Usually very active. Hoping it is a passing thing. She is sleeping in her crate with the door open.

Hoping it is a passing thing. She is sleeping in her crate with the door open. Hopefully she is ok and it's just a passing thing. And so worrisome whey they aren't feeling well. And of course it's a Friday, ugh. My youngest daughter had a penchant for getting sick on a holiday. Of course
I had to order Janey's food from Chewy today as it was out of stock at Amazon. She gets sick if I switch her so it's important to stick to the same food. It's the same price both places, it's just I have Prime and Chewy is $49 for free shipping. The food is $32 and change. So Janey gets some treats
My mom had her cardiologist appointment yesterday and my sister said it went well, he said things look good. He did an ekg and scheduled her for an echo cardiogram in 2 weeks. She did not remember the dr at all, although he was her cardiologist for 15 years. I don't think she saw him enough for him to be in her memory that well. And the new facility 1. Called my sister Wed to verify the appointment and 2. Had the paperwork ready when she arrived to get mom. At the old place either of those things would have been a miracle!
It's SO STINKING HOT here!!! For the next 10 days the average low is 78 and highs range from 100 to a cool 97. Current temperature is 92 and feels like 102. And it's still June. What a long summer it will be...

Yay on the new place having their act together, jess. Labby, I hope your pup gets well soon and it's just something minor. The wasps are back. AGAIN. Or maybe "STILL" would be more appropriate. I ordered the trap and spray from WM and can pick it up this afternoon. I can't wait to start blasting those little sh*ts. I'm also taking down the hanging light strand as they seem to be using it to build new nests. It's Easter colors, so no great loss. Twila has really enjoyed herself this afternoon. A wasp keeps flying around the door and she keeps jumping up trying to catch it. I tried to get a video but no luck. Maybe next time. I'm really pissed at Amazon. After extending and extending the delivery date, an item I ordered was finally delivered to the locker Wednesday and latest pickup was today (although technically it should have been tomorrow, but whatever). I was about to head out to get it when I get a notice that says it's no longer available and I'm being refunded. I'm really getting tired of dealing with Amazon.

I'm sorry you're still having so much trouble with Amazon. And the wasps. I battled tree rats for 12 years so I know how infuriating it is not to be able to enjoy a balcony. I hope the trap and spray works. There has to be a nest close by. Wonder if neighboring balconies are having the same problem. Check out the video in this article. That cat is an impressive little fighter - the last lunge at the coyote disorientated it a bit. My heart was in my mouth watching that. That coyote isn't even as big as they get around here. Or got - I haven't seen any in over a year. People still keeping their cats indoors, though.

Ah ha. I found the nest. Several nests actually. They're all under the overhang from the 3rd floor roofs. MULTIPLE nests. Either the bug guy has bad eyesight or didn't look. I decided to look around when I walked out to my car earlier, looked up, and there they are. There is only one tenant in my building on my side that sits out on their balcony, and I haven't seen them lately. I don't know about the other side of the building. It's possible I'm the only one who has even noticed. *sigh*
On a brighter note, I found out that the apartment complex with the floorplan I'm most interested in has washer/dryer connections in some of the units of that floorplan. Yay! Our pool reopens tomorrow too. It's been shut for about a month while they resurfaced the inside and spiffed up the pool deck. It looks really nice. Off to get my mail and stop by the grocery store. I did a store pickup at Sprouts but they were out of half of what I ordered so HEB, here I come.

Val-Can you call a bee-keeper? He should charge the complex. But since they know how to take down bee hives, they should know what to do with wasps.

Hopefully Lola’s oddness has passed. Will watch her. She was all hunched over this morning. She did a #2 on the stair landing (I am sure it was her because she was acting “off”). She would not move. I finally got her into her crate and she wouldn’t lay down for the longest time. Now she seems fine. Just worried about hemangiosarcoma after I lost Patton to it.

I hope Labby's lab feels better soon! It's hard to see animals suffer or not feel well. It's been really dark all day - out at noon and it was dim, and a few hours later people had their lights on. Cascade College, where the DH works, had their graduation today. They have it outside and they *may* have got through it before the rain started up again. It's warm and muggy, though, too, in the low 60s. The DH was joking that he got all of his summer cycling jerseys out of the cedar chest, so we will have 40 more days of rain.

Val-Can you call a bee-keeper? He should charge the complex. But since they know how to take down bee hives, they should know what to do with wasps. Denise, beekeepers take care of honey bees and bumble bees - the ones that pollinate and produce honey. They don't get involved with wasps or hornet nests, you need a regular insect exterminator for that. Many years ago, we had a huge paper nest the size of a basketball hanging in our maple tree right by our pool. I didn't know the difference in nests way back then and called a beekeeper who came over. He was strictly a beekeeper for the honey bees, said they don't do other kinds of bees. He suggested that we get 3-4 cans of Raid Hornet and Wasp killer that spray the 25 ft spray, stand back, and hit the nest from both sides at dusk. DH and I went out as it was getting dark and we sprayed 2 cans from each side directly up into the nest. They tell you to spray at dusk because all the bees are back in the nest at that time. The entire nest got completely saturated and fell to the ground, we left it until morning to inspect. There were hundreds of dead wasps all around and inside the destroyed nest. The Raid took care of it very well. We also get the hornets honeycomb nests inside a crate we have in the pool area that we use to put the winter cover in. Every spring when the cover comes off the pool, we need to spray and remove the small nests that have formed inside the crate before putting the cover inside.

I keep a couple of cans on hand for the wasps around here. First sign of a nest, I am spraying it.
Best stuff ever.
