Good morning, everyone! First full week of June and the weather rollercoaster continues from upper 80s down to low to mid 70s this week. Looking forward to an uneventful week other than spending twice as much for half a tank of gas. I wish whoever's in charge of gas tax (state or Government level) could at least cut it in half to give us po' folk a break at the pump. Anywho, I hope everyone has a good day and at least the weather is warm again, trees are green, flowers flowering, etc.

Personally I want to see the oil & gas companies investigated for price fixing. Interesting how you can get 4 different prices from 4 different sources for other goods, but within the same geographic area gas never varies by more than $0.02 from station to station. If that isn't price fixing, what is?
HOT here this week. We'll be in the low 100s for the next 7-10 days. Sure hope the power grid doesn't fail. Again.

Totally useless tip unless you're planning a vacation trip this summer: I've been pricing flights and car rentals and it looks like airfares and car daily rates are a bit less if you rent on a weekday. Pre-COVID, the weekend rates were cheaper and the weekday rates were considerably higher due to business travelers. Apparently biz travel is down and vacay travel is up. So...if you have flexibility in your dates, consider flying and renting a car on a weekday. /PSA Back to your regularly scheduled chat.

How nice that the oil and gas companies are bragging about record profits to benefit their stock holders. Infuriating.
Since I am a Walmart plus customer, I get 10 cents off a gallon at Sam's club, so I will continue to get my gas there.

I found a toy mouse on top of the refrigerator today. I have a pretty good idea who put it there, too. Kritter, I think Twila snuck out of the foster bedroom at night when you were asleep and took lessons from Daisy. Twila was in the sink the other day and didn't hear me come in the kitchen. When she turned around and saw me, she couldn't get out of the sink and off the counter fast enough. She tripped on the lip of the counter, then slipped on the floor when she tried to get some traction to run I shouldn't have laughed but dang it was funny. And she wasn't hurt. Heck, I didn't even yell at her. She lets me pet her now when she's in the raised cat bed. She even got annoyed today when I stopped petting her before she was ready Now to wait for her to let me pet her whenever. She's getting there.

Awwww. I may have to buy a larger pet bed. This could get interesting. Simon starts out sleeping curled up but always ends up totally stretched out.

Furry Jamie used to slide out on the linoleum because she also had fur on the bottoms of her paws - she'd try to tear around a corner and her front legs would keep going but her hind end would be flipped over on the side because her paws slid out - meanwhile her front paws would be just spinning. It was hysterical.

Twila was also in with the Missy family so I am sure she picked up some tips from Daisy on the joy of being on counters. Not to mention tips from Terrell on hanging out in sinks and knocking stuff off flat surfaces.
Daisy and Terrell have mischief making down to an exact science.

The wasps are so bad on my balcony this summer that the cats are glued to the patio door watching the wasps fly around all throughout the day. I've been treating the nests as they form but the damn wasps just keep coming back. I put in a work order this morning with the apartment office, asking them to check the outside of the building (i.e., gutters, etc) and the tree in front of my unit for nests. Last summer I only had one nest, and once I treated it, the wasps stayed away except for the random wasp. Now? I've treated 4 nests in just three days and they keep coming back, multiple wasps, all day long. There is a nest somewhere nearby. I can't even get outside to set up the netting that would block the stupid wasps because there are so many wasps flying around.
Speaking of kitty TV. Twila is jumping at the patio door whenever a wasp flies low. I guess she thinks she can catch it.

She has always been a hunter from the other side of the glass. She used to sit on the cat tree by the window and try and catch anything that moved along the top of the cat pen. Lizards, squirrels, whatever.

Hello, I hope everyone has been doing ok. I ended up having a busy week last week. One of the things we did was move mom to different facility. My sister got tired of the many issues and made arrangements. We kind of got stuck with the place she was at because she was more confused after her stroke and with covid going on it was the only one anywhere near us that was taking lock down patients. But now with the covid restrictions changed and mom getting past a lot of the confusion we had more options. They had terrible communication among many other things that were frustrating.
It was crazy because when we went to go move her Thursday they put on a full on assault in trying to keep her there. I don't know if patients are leaving in droves or what. But it was a hard sell that lasted about 2 hours and it was blatantly such a put on I got quite angry. When they asked where we were moving her they made a face like we were moving her to the seventh circle of hell. And they said: You won't like it there and if you want to move her back we might not have a bed available. I mean what is that? And they were saying how much they love her (some never even met her!) and we'll fix whatever is wrong. However there was only excuses and not even an apology for the things that happened. They implied it was our fault they left her at the dr and forgot about her because there hadn't been a family member available to go. I was like, wait a minute, are you making excuses you left her and forgot to go get her? It's our fault? I was steaming. And my sister acted like she was falling for it. I was like: If you are falling for this dog and pony show I have bridge I want to sell you! And the director wanted to meet with us and there we were with her and the head nurse and social worker and I said: It's a sin and a shame we've been trying to get help with issues for a year and the day we are walking out the door everyone wants to help??!! I said to my sister you have POA so it's ultimately your decision but this is smoke and mirrors, they don't love mom any more today than they did yesterday and NOTHING is going to change. Well they ignored me because my sister was cracking. So she said well I have to ask mom. We go back to mom's room to ask her and the social worker FOLLOWS US!! I said: if you don't mind we'd like to have this discussion in private. She's literally hugging mom and saying we love you. It was crazy, mom said she's never even met her! And as soon as the social worker left mom said: What's taking so long, I'm ready to move Well, asked and answered.
And she's only been at the new place 5 days but so far it's a world of difference. First of all her A1C was 11! And apparently the other place had her on a regular diet, too. This place immediately put her on a low carb/low sugar diet, and adjusted her meds. And contacted my sister about everything they were doing. And mom said about 4 to 5 times how much better she likes it. And that the people are nice, and really seem to want to help her and are much more approachable. So in other words they are treating her like a person and not just a body in a bed. Of course it will take more time to really know but so far it seems to be a world of difference and mom seems to like it much better, and we are glad to leave that other place behind! And bonus this place is closer, too.
Well the hot is here to stay. Heat dome this week with rising temps and more of the same next week too. Even though you know what summer is here, it still sucks when it really settles in. Last day of school here today which is nice for me walking Janey because I live between 3 schools and the traffic is a real pain.
And we installed a security camera Saturday (ugh we had two arguments) and apparently my street is a lot busier than I realized because it's constantly recording things. I'm hoping my son will call me when he's off Thursday and maybe he can help me with the settings.
I guess I'm glad we don't travel, yikes!

Wow Jes! That made me mad just reading it!
Makes me think that they have had warnings from some higher-ups about violations and patients leaving.
Super great that your mom likes the new place...sounds good!

Tuesday is senior day at the Goodwills around here, so I was shopping for wall decor for my grand dog's room and a Library room that I am setting up. The first one I went into some guys was smelling me, lol. The last one I went into was in a not so desirable part of town and there was a man sitting in a recliner chair pleasuring himself...loudly. The workers were trying to stand around him with their backs to him to shield him from view. I think they were waiting for the police. I cut that shopping trip short as I really didn't need to be in an episode of cops. I swear somedays it is just bizarro world around here and you just have to laugh at the entertainment.

I ordered a big food order from Walmart to be delivered this Friday. And I have learned to be sure to check "retailer" for all items so that I get free shipping.
But some of the items that I ordered will be delivered tomorrow. I just got an email that says that the one pistachio pudding box (about $1.19) will be delivered from Lewisberry, PA tomorrow. Lewisberry is 178 miles from me. ?
They are driving that far to deliver a box of pudding? Also coming separately are 2 bags of oyster crackers, computer paper and 2 boxes of coffee k-cups.
According to my emails they will all be delivered separately.
Um....?

That is how it works sometimes. No, they are not driving that far. It could be coming by FedEx
I had a Walmart order of 3 things last week and they all came on different days from different sources.

jesmelric - I'm glad your mom is in a better spot! Sounds like there's been an exodus from the other place so now they're pouring on the charm. They'd do better to fix their lame-azz problems.
allikat - geez - some of the thrifts I shop in are real zoos, but at least I've been spared the wanker-fest. Blech.
The temp gasped and heaved its way above 70 today, but really humid and although we had some clearing this afternoon, its raining again and we're back in the 50s. I'm glad for it to drop because the combo of rain and warmth makes it sticky and muggy around here. We'll be back into the low 60s and rain again for the rest of the week, so I'll be going for a quick bike ride tomorrow while it's still dry. I don't mind riding in the rain if I happen to get caught in it, but I'd rather not do it deliberately - I rode for too many years in horrible weather working, commuting and training, and at this stage of the game just don't have any great desire to do it (unless it's off road).
The DH and I are departing over the mountains again in a few days - he wants to find some dry weather to ride a century, I just like going to Eastern Washington. I'm taking my 3-Speed and riding the loop along the river that I usually run. Since I can't walk more than a block (shopping at Costco yesterday evening was agony after about 10 minutes) and that at only about 2 miles an hour, I'll have my bike to ride anywhere we go to the pubs, and the DH can walk briskly. Still have almost two weeks to get to the podiatrist - I hope they can help me as I can't keep going on this way with my heel flaring like this. It's OK when I first get up in the morning - it's after I'm on it for a bit that it starts up.

I ordered 4 bottle of vitamins from Walmart, 2 of one kind then 2 others. They are coming in 4 different shipments with one bottle of the 2 piece order being hand delivered, its a $4.88 item. Just cannot believe the waste of resources with their on line ordering. I get different warehouses but the hand delivery, driving around 10 miles each way seems like a real waste.

Walmart is weird. I really find it hard to believe that they are out of oyster crackers (grandson's favorite snack) locally. Never had a problem when I used to go into the store.
I do like that I get an email upon delivery so I know to retrieve the item. They always put the stuff on my front porch which is viewable from the road. They move so quickly dropping it off that usually my Ring chime doesn't go off. And the person never rings my doorbell.

I can't order from in-store Walmart delivery because the 2 closest Walmart stores are too far away from me to offer that service. So everything I buy is done by regular online orders. The orders always come split up into several boxes and they always come on consecutive days. Sometimes an item, such as a small box of eyedrops will come in a fairly large box all by itself. If I order 8 cans of Progresso soup, most of the time one is straggling behind in it's own box. Sometimes a small item is shipped by USPS and it's in my mailbox. They must still be making money on it all in the end. They even deliver by FedEx on Sunday - I just received 4 boxes this past Sunday. Same thing with Target as I can't get in-store delivery with them either, everything is always split up into multiple boxes, multiple days.

I am happy with the boxes!! My Walmart is 2 miles away and is a super Walmart. So it is huge. I hope that their deliveries continue, without them losing too much money.

OMG that is horrific!! Years ago in this little church run thrift I used to go to (it closed after a fire about 5 or 6 years ago, unfortunately it never has come back) someone pooped behind the long/formal dresses. I guess it was a homeless person, although they did have a bathroom there they would let you use. That's the worst thing I've encountered and it was nasty, but not as nasty as what you encountered! Yikes!
Super hot here, they are saying triple digits Friday though Sunday and then a cool 98 on Monday I have to mow tomorrow, I try to walk Janey early and get it all done by 8 am. And even then it's hot, just not as hot.
Chap I sure hope the podiatrist can help you. It's taking forever to get your appointment! Mom finally has her cardiologist appointment tomorrow. She definitely needs to see one as it's been a while, but now we are also thinking maybe her highly elevated blood sugar has been the main culprit in contributing to her fatigue. We should know after a few weeks at the new place as they adjust her meds and diet. Also we'll see what the dr says tomorrow and any tests they might do.
