Those are gorgeous Denise! I prefer my first pic too . I picked those yesterday, it was almost 90 & I knew the snow today would likely kill them, so I picked as many as I could. What's weird is that these are a different variety than my other lilacs & my other one's buds are so tiny, I don't think they'll bloom for another month. Looks like we're at about 4-5" so far, based on my back fence. But nothing sticking on the concrete yet.

Irises are the only thing that my area deer don't eat. I have to have deer fences in front of everything else. This year I finally got smart and put in shepherd's hooks on each end of a stretch of netting in front of the flowering shrubs and flowers in front of my house.
And I put a hanging basket of fake flowers on the hooks. Otherwise, I would have to cover any real flowers with more netting. Adorable deer, but evil....

I've put a sheet of plastic or a bit of tarp over things like that before - not sure if that would help at all? I heard about the snow - that's just wild!
People are going to go batsheet around here - we're going to have a verifiable actual sunny weekend with high temps in the 60s and it may hit 70 on Sunday, before the rain and clouds come back in. I have a feeling people will be scramming out of town to enjoy it. The DH is leaving in the morning to ride a century up north. If my foot weren't paining me I would have tagged along and gotten in a long, long run and ramble while he rode - there's nice countryside up there.

Our high today will be between 95-100 (sources disagree) followed by a cold front this evening, highs in the 70s tomorrow and a week of highs in the 80s. Nice!! My screen curtains are supposed to come in today and the hanging rod on Tuesday, so my Memorial Day weekend project will be trying to get my patio "screened" in. I hope this works, because it really annoys me to have an absolutely wonderful patio that I can't use because of the damned wasps and bees Speaking of wasps, I need to spray down the stucco again this week in hopes of deterring them. I have a "bug spray" that is dish detergent, clove oil and peppermint oil and they don't like it all It does work for a short time in that it keeps the wasps from setting up nests on any surface I spray it on.

It's a beautiful day here today and we've been busy since early morning with the back yard - getting the rest of the patio furniture out, setting up the table umbrellas, and the pool cover is off. We got the backwash hose connected, lowered the pool water level from the winter snow melt-off and we were working hard and busy. Then we heard the bear horns go off, sounded like it was from our neighbor right below us, the same wooded area that was in that pic I posted last week where the bears were walking out of their yard into ours.
I told DIL to shut the pool-house and shed doors, get out of the pool area and close/lock the pool fence gate. Then I looked down from our deck and saw two of the bears walking by in our neighbor's yard, this time towards the back woods instead of coming out towards our yard. So we were afraid that they would circle around and come up the back way by the shed and circle into the yard, a route which they have done in the past.
We're waiting it out right now to give them time to pass-on by, DIL went down to ACE to get a few new bear horns as ours are dead. I AM SO TIRED OF THIS! Our State Senator and State Rep have bills into the State to have an organized bear hunt with at least 80-100 bears to be permitted. But every time they do it, it gets knocked down by the bear lovers. One woman was mouthing off about it on our town board, how dare we want to kill these animals, and I saw the pics she posted of "her" bears, she even has names for them. One was drinking from a large fountain in her yard and I'm sure she is feeding them. This is not how it's supposed to be.

Beautiful flower photos! Our lilac is finished for the season but its buddy the snowball plant is in full bloom now. But I can't get my grandma's voice out of my head, warning us about the earwigs lurking inside. Since its going to be sunny & warm today maybe I'll brave cutting a bouquet for my table but those bugs really creep me out!!

I woke up to all 3 cats on the bed this morning. Woo hoo! Simon and Twila were playing and Trixie was just laying there observing it all. Trixie seems to have accepted Twila faster than she did for Toby and Simon.

Sounds like the bear population needs to be thinned same as a deer population when there are no predators to keep them under control. The bears will continue to get more brazen and when food sources dry up, they'll be breaking into homes. That woman reminds me of a story about a woman who fed bears and more kept showing up at her home. She thought of them as friends until one day she went out to get her mail and found out they weren't (sadly, it cost her her life).

THIS is why your bears have no fear and are hanging out in everyone's backyard. Have the bear hunt supporters tried getting someone from the state Fish & Wildlife department to testify at the council and state legislature hearings about the bears and why they have become a danger? Doesn't have to be from your state, even someone from a nearby state would work.
Florida has the same problem with alligators. Idiots will feed them then wonder why the gator came up on their dock and snatched Fido.

I had planned to do some things inside today because I have been spending all my time outside lately but with a possible rain forecast coming up, I headed out the door. Blew all the leaves out and changed the bedding in the cat pen because one never knows when a cat is going to need a place to sleep. I have solar fairy lights on the pen now so accommodations are upped a notch.

You're right Val, it's the townspeople that are causing this big problem. We had an unfortunate incident in Newtown (three towns over from me) just a few weeks ago. An off-duty police officer shot and killed "Bobbi the bear" who was ripping apart his chicken coops. He's been placed on administrative leave from the Ridgefield Police Department where he worked, pending further investigation. All the environmentalists are going crazy over this - Bobbi had her OWN SOCIAL MEDIA page where residents would post pics of her on a daily basis as she made her way from town to town. She was a tagged bear, No 217 so they knew who she was. Supposedly, from all the stories and local TV news, she was extremely popular among nature animal lovers. But there were also many pages and posts warning about what the townspeople were creating, that something bad was going to happen to her, that she would meet her fate. There are a few pics of Bobbi leaning right up on someone's deck rails - she was becoming too domesticated, they said they felt that she was being fed. This adulation has been going on for over a year now with this tagged bear, DEEP was aware of the postings/pics and did nothing to discourage it. This story made the newspapers from New York to the Miami Herald with the story of her shooting. The bear's cubs were only about 4 months old so it was an unfortunate incident, but still the townspeople would not stop. They were posting hints and plotting maneuvers on how to feed the cubs, take care of them, etc. DEEP finally stepped in last week and the cubs are now in a rehabilitation program in NH for their own safety. I actually think some nut case would have tried to take them and domesticate the cubs for pets. Everyone keeps saying that someone is going to get hurt badly before anything is done with the explosion of the black bears in this state. A few senators and reps are fighting to control the growing bear population and the problems that entail, but too many environmentalists are fighting against it. So, in turn, other Senators and Reps that are loyal to their constituents that are against any organized hunt just keep shooting down the bills. nypost.com/2022/05/19/connecticut-cop-on-leave-after-killing-beloved-black-bear-bobbi/www.wfsb.com/2022/05/13/black-bear-shooting-under-investigation-newtown/ctsenaterepublicans.com/2022/03/frustrated-by-bears-ct-farmers-support-bill-that-would-ease-rules-on-shooting-of-nuisance-wildlife-ct-post-senator-miner/

That would be so scary to have bears so close.
I love Zoesam's lilacs! There used to be a lilac bush between my property and the slob neighbor cut it down. You can see some of his overgrown backyard beyond my irises). Heck he only mows a path around his house and lets the weeds grow everywhere, but he HAD to cut down that bush.
In the 90's today and will be tomorrow, and then cooler on Monday. My yard really needs to be mowed, but I can hardly breathe outside since it is so humid.
But at least I have been forced to do some listing.
I joined Depop for shits and giggles. I keep seeing posts about it on the various FB sites. Super easy to post there, and there are misc categories too.
Gives me a little something different to do. But no way will I post all 1,600 items over there.

The problem with overpopulating bears is similar to deer - the deer herds get too big for their environment to sustain them and starve in the winter. With deer at least there's a hunting season and people can lawfully bag them for the dinner table, etc. It's a lot better than having them slowly starve in the winter.
Here bears are relocated back up to the mountains if they do show up, though we don't have quite the problem as some areas do. We had coyotes but they seem to have moved off back to the mountains.
I'm glad the cubs were rescued, though - that's where people get confused - there may be some tagged beers who live on their own and are tracked, but people 'adopt' them - they're wild animals, they should not be messed with. People can't resist feeding them and it's a bad idea - if they're not fed they'll knock over some trash cans and probably move on or can be relocated.

This is a stock pic of my 2019 Honda CRV in Molten Lava color. My own car is dirty. Had it for 3 years and almost 6,000 miles on it. My CRV is also a 2019, and I have 27000 miles on it. And it's a lease . I was way down on miles when everything was shut down, but going back and forth to my sister's to get her house on the market has put a lot of miles on it in the last few months. Six more weeks and she moves. Hopefully that will be the end of it, but her house is still not sold (she countered on a second offer and they didn't counter. I think/hope she's figured out they are coming with their best offer and she needs to accept it if it's somewhat reasonable.)
