I had two pit bull friends - one was an old fellow named Masi who guarded the bike shop I used, and the other was at another bike shop owned by a good friend - Jasper would run behind his human and furrow his brow if something odd happened lol. Masi was so mellow until his owner put him in with a poorly trained pit bull, and I was horrified at the change in Masi who turned really savage under this other pit bull's influence, and angry at my friend for doing this. He adopted out Meathead (the other pit bull) and Masi returned to his placid self. Jasper always ran up to me for pets and hugs when I'd arrive at that other bike shop. Pit bulls are sensitive dogs and really need to be trained properly - I'm nervous around them, also, if I don't know them.
At any rate, the shingrix flu feeling is passing off finally and although it's quite late at night, I may go downstairs, anyway, for a workout to try to sweat the rest of the reaction out. So, for me it lasted about 1 1/2 to 2 days.

The birds really like my patio this year. I have no idea why, I don't have any bird food out, no bird bath, and all fake plants except for one real fern. It's making for great Kitty TV: I did find some screen curtains that might work on the patio and can be "installed" without damaging the stucco. I originally thought I'd use mosquito net curtains but realized they were fairly delicate and would be destroyed if they rubbed against the stucco.

According to the manager at the Great Clips I used to use, Great Clips stylists are W2 employees so they get paid by the hour plus some benefits, and they're supposed to get any tips given to them. If your stylist isn't getting the tips, then it's possible the manager is keeping the tips but in some states that is against the law. Oh I guess I wasn't clear, he said the stylists weren't getting any of the price increase, not the tips.

We were paying $14 and now it's up to $17. Not that that's outrageous but if we both get cuts plus tips it's pretty much $44 bucks. And we tend to go every other month and with everything else so high, it's more of a squeeze. And of course the guy who cut our hair said they don't get any of it
Boy so tired of the heat already. There are a few chances of rain on the horizon, not much though.
A lady that I made friends with in book club (before I quit, the only lady I really got friendly with) was just diagnosed with breast cancer. And if that's not bad enough, her daughter was diagnosed at the same time. I'm not sure of all the details of the situation, I was invited to join a FB support group for them. She's probably 67 or so, I'm guessing her daughter is in her 40s. So any prayers for Pat and Angie would be appreciated.
So sorry about your friend and daughter. If I can help in any way, let me know. I am a certified Reach to Recovery counselor with the ACS. Patients can access my help and advice through the ACS site. There's also BreastCancer.org, with a ton of discussion groups depending on their chemos and situations. And also Facebook groups of the different chemos and stages. They will be in my prayers.
Thank you Denise, I will pass the information to her. I did find out her tumor is very tiny and stage 0 and her daughter is stage 2 and opted for a double mastectomy. And I know she's much more concerned for her daughter as hers is more complicated, and of course you are always more concerned about your kids.

Not a surprise. The stylists are not paying for any store rent increases or cost of goods increases like the franchise owners are paying.

Employees rarely get the benefit of price increases, in any company. They may benefit though if the company has a profit sharing plan in place though. Here, rents escalate on average 10% or more per year thanks to insane property taxes. So that alone is a big reason why it's getting expensive here.

Desire 5 for $10 mulch sale at Lowes this weekend in case you need any. I am going to get more just because I now have a truck to put it in. It is the little things in life that bring me happiness.

Thanks for mentioning this, Kritter. We have all the mulch down in place except for the pool area because the pool isn't open yet for the summer. It looks like we'll need more than we allocated for out there. The bags are in place lying in the shrub beds around the pool and it definitely won't be enough. Off to order as the pool will get opened next weekend.
Also, can you post some pics of your new truck? When did you finally get it, I must have missed it if you mentioned it here. I only saw the dealer pic when you first posted about wanting to buy one. Good luck with it and enjoy!

Hummus Day, eh? I like most of the flavors but my favorite is one with the basic Mediterrean herbs, olive oil and pine nuts. I usually add extra herbs to it, and a little lemon infused olive oil.

Resident squirrel just chilling after having his fill at the corn buffet, lol. He was out cold for a while, now a little more alert. Headed to Bark in the Park on Saturday, may end up rescuing a dog just never know what the plan is for me. I have been watching a cute little mixed breed 5 month old dog, she is fighting mange and heart worms if she happens to be there on Saturday it might just be fate that she is for me. It is going to be in the 90s here this weekend, I need to put bathing suit on and get in pond to clean the algae off the rocks, this might be my opportunity temperature wise.

This was the pic that my dealer sent me to show that he had parked it by the back fence so nobody would see it before I got there. It came in unexpectedly late one afternoon and I didn't have time to get there before they closed. It was in a town about 20 or so miles away but congested traffic in the late afternoons. I got there first thing the next morning and they hadn't even taken all the protective tape off the inside yet.

We have a 1997 Subaru Legacy station wagon - runs like a nose! It has about 185,000 miles on it, which for a Subaru isn't bad.
Seeing Val's cats make me long for cats - I really need to have animals to care for. Our delay is mostly because we're trying to figure out a time to go overseas and want to wait until afterwards. That delay is due to Covid, and now I can't walk due to my injured foot. In fact, if we walk anywhere over 1/8 mile, I have to ride my bike slowly whilst the DH walks briskly because I can only make it to the mailbox at the end of our road and back. This is so crazy. My doc referred me to a podiatrist because treatment isn't working.

Kritter - Thanks for the info. Home Depot is closer to us, but I'm combining my drive to Danbury - I have a doctor's appointment on Monday at orthopedics in Danbury and after I'm done I'll swing over to the Danbury Lowes to pick up the mulch. They are saying that a Lowes might be coming to Southbury which is my next town over, hoping that the rumors are true. My small town of Woodbury will not allow any type of commercial business into our small town, they want to keep it small and quaint. There were big fights before our Dollar General finally got approved with so many restrictions on them and their building. My DS was on the zoning board back in 2019 and the stories he told me about the fights about Dollar General at the town meetings were unbelievable. Adult townsfolk screaming and yelling about pollution, wetlands, severe traffic jams, etc. Every time I drive by Dollar General now that it's up and finished, there are hardly any cars exiting or entering, so much for traffic jams they said it would cause. We also have no fast-food places, they are not allowed here, and only one small independent local IGA supermarket. I have to go into Southbury to do a big grocery shop where there are three big chains. We have no chain drugstores, only two small independents. We do have an ACE that is a goldmine here, an Agway Farm Market, and a NAPA that is way overpriced and was made to look like a house from the outside road front. Any of the chain businesses would help so much with the property tax base in the town.

That is what happened when a $ General was suggested about a mile from me. People were going totally crazy about accidents, etc.
However, it was built right across from a now-closed Shop n Save grocery store. No accidents there.
And, like yours, no accidents, few cars exiting and entering. And really nice and close to me and very convenient. I wonder if those alarmists are still boycotting it.

Some out of town developers want to tear out our little town center (which really is just a mall with a food court) and build a lot of big apartment blocks and other businesses. It's way WAY too big for the infrastructure (narrow roads, many hills) so it was inappropriate, and no one liked out of towners coming in and messing with it anyway. At any rate, someone I know who worked for the town council said the meetings to hammer out plans were scenes of near-anarchy, with people yelling, screaming, table-banging, rioting around the doors of city hall - she said basically nothing got done, and this went on and on. And this is in a diverse, moderate area used to working together, and pretty mellow.
Several plans were issued with complete details online, and I went over them - there does need to be some redevelopment to make the area more accessible and better serve the people, update everything, but big apartment blocks are only to line the pockets of the investors - there are already apartments and townhomes aplenty. There needs to be better retail, restaurant and meeting space and improved access, with a busy transit area next to it. I wrote some letters along with a ton of other people and we got to two plans, then covid hit. Now it's all on hold.
Gawd, I hope we don't have to go through all that again.

Desire- Woodbury sounds very similar to where I live. Dollar General had a heck of a time opening here, and there's never been any problem with traffic going there even on weekends. One chain drug store, 3 gas stations and small Chinese food place and pizza place pretty much sums up the businesses here, unless you add the other city that shares schools and post office, then add former IGA (it looks the same, just not officially IGA anymore), another gas station, another pizza place and Chinese food place and major drug store. Apparently, adding businesses here supposedly "detracts" from the quaint small town experience, yet the amount of housing developments taking over practically every empty space is ridiculous. Apparently the huge uptick in traffic in other parts doesn't bother those who run both cities. We also have one of the highest property taxes in the county, so businesses would be nice to help out the homeowners. Still pissed off the city I live in, years ago, sold a large chunk of prime property to the city to the east that promptly widened the road and business after business sprang up practically overnight from manufacturing, small businesses and a couple bar/restaurants. Most of those are still in business and there's still slow expansion with new things being built. They also had a chance years ago to have sewer put in at low cost to residents, but missed filing deadline. That wound up costing Mom almost her life savings $50,000 when she and other residents on probably the two poorest roads were forced to have public sewer and water installed.

I could not live in that kind of town. I need choices. I have 3 HEB stores all within 2 to 3 miles and I shop all 3 of them because they are different in important ways.
And what about Panera and Bagel Tuesday?
Of course, I would need a Walmart. I am spoiled by convenience.

Fortunately, cities to the north and east have lots of places to shop including major grocery chains, Walmart, Target, Aldi, Panera, etc. plus a huge shopping strip and mall and those are maybe 5 miles away.

When we moved from Willowick we had to replace the sewer lines. I forget what the hookup issues were back then but I know my parents had to do it before we sold the house. This was in 1974.

Picked these off of bushes we had planted just 2 seasons ago. The bushes are still small but they bloomed beautifully, I got 3 big vases full! 3 weeks in the 80s & 90s which is unseasonably warm. Bottom picture is today. Possibly up to 11", though lots of it won't stick.
