Good morning everyone! We're getting a break from 80s into mostly normal 70s this week. Raining this morning which I'm glad because my silver Cube had taken on a green tint coated in pollen. My thrill today will be doing a little grocery shopping. Between outrageous gas prices and inflated grocery prices, I only go out when I really have to and get only what I need. Hope everyone has an enjoyable day and week!
We're actually four/five arrows down, but this pretty much sums up weather here in Ohio through the year:

We're forecast for high 90's thru Saturday, then back down to normal temps for a few days. The entity that oversees the power grid has asked folks to conserve energy as some plants are down for maintenance. Why they don't do maintenance between mid-March and end of April is beyond me, that would make too much sense Twila is fitting in nicely but she did get her first experience with the vacuum cleaner and the water bottle last night The fire department is busy today, the third truck of the day just went by and it's only about 1:30 here.

On the way home from a post office run, I swung by HEB to see what looked good for supper tonight. Dropped a little under $100 and got nothing to eat. Only plants. They just got a truck of plants in and on it were bougainvillea that I have been waiting for them to get. They had the light and dark pink ones and also the ORANGE color ones. I bought 8 of them plus some other assorted fill-in lantana. Had to make two trips through the checkout lane and while I was leaving one of the plant girls said they were expecting more of them. As for supper, no harm, no foul. I need to go on a diet anyway.

The pretty lantanas in my hanging baskets have died. I deadheaded them and sure hope that they blossom again.

Yeah, I was thinking....well these would never grow back if planted. Water and sunshine is what I did. The petunias are doing well. But they are making fun of the lantanas.

Did you perhaps overwater the lantana? They're drought tolerant and don't need daily watering.

I do water them daily but they are in full sun and the petunias always need it. Uh-oh. I have had petunias in my hanging baskets forever and they do fine with daily watering.

Once lantana are established in the ground here they never need water. They are the opposite of petunias because they don't like wet feet.

Wait, I meant that the blossoms are spent are needed to be deadheaded. I watched videos on it and it is a "thing". So hopefully they will blossom again, like the petunias do.

QE2 looks really good! Being widowed and then coming down with Covid is rough on someone in their 90s, but she's a trooper. Like her mother who wouldn't evacuate London during the blitz, saying that she was staying with her people - it made a big difference for morale when the bombs were falling.
It has been in the 50s here and with the rain it feels clammy and weird. We can't moss treat the roof because you need a couple of days of dry weather, and we just never seen to have more than like one day, or an afternoon where it's dry, in a row. It's going to look like a carpet up there soon. The sun came out today and it got near 60 - I think people were sneaking out of work because I saw an awful lot of people surrounding little tables outside of coffee shops, and the beer garden on the trail where I ride my bike was packed at like 2 in the afternoon and there were people on bikes scooting around everywhere. I'm still hobbling on my sore heel but finally get to see a doc tomorrow. My running friend says he misses me. I miss him, too.

Wait until BritBox is streaming it, watch it, and then see if you still think QE2 looks good. She was animated during the drum corp and horse segments, but the rest of the time she looked very tired and very frail. When she stops at the car to get in, you can see how pronounced her osteoporosis is now. I never really noticed she had a hump before last night. I think some tiny birds are making a nest in one of my hanging flower baskets. They'll slightly larger than a hummingbird but I haven't been able to identify what they are yet. I also have some new birds this year in the trees. There are more birds singing than last year and there are at least 3 different chirps/calls.

Yes, it is. After the little floweretts fall off, there is a small oblong bud type thing that forms at the end of the flower stem almost like a big seed. That is what you deadhead off.
My lantanas grow so large that I just cut the whole plant back when the majority of the flowers are done.

I moved the hanging baskets around and put the one that the birds seem to like on the hook with the best view from the patio door. I figured that way the cats could watch without destroying the vertical blinds. At first the birds fussed when they came back and found the baskets had been moved, but I now see them flying in and out of the basket in the new location, so I guess they're OK with it The cats definitely like it better

Hello, hope everyone is doing well. We are still very hot and dry, I find myself watering every week as I did some planting this year. No break on the horizon for either the heat or dry
We had mom here yesterday for a visit to celebrate our birthdays (my sister and I are 10 days apart) and we watched a movie with mom and she did pretty well. She'd seen it before but did not remember it. She lost a couple of bits of information during the movie but pretty much kept up with the plot and enjoyed it so that was fun. She's been having an earache, they gave her antibiotics and steroid drops in her ear and she said it's not any better so they are supposed to schedule her an appt with an ENT.
DH had his continuing education Saturday and Sunday we went to Great Clips and got haircuts. They have gone up! They send me coupons and I wanted to take advantage. I'm looking to save money anywhere I can. Everything is so outrageously expensive now. I wonder if prices will ever start to come down?

We're back from Trixie's vet visit and she's hissing at everyone. Eh, she'll get over it. Since she'll be 7 this fall, I went ahead and let the vet do a bloodwork panel so they'd have a baseline for future visits if she develops any issues. She passed with flying colors, got her nails and a mat trimmed, and the vet & I discussed how I should feed the kitties since I have two skinny youngsters and one butterball grown cat. It won't be as bad as I expected. It ends up I just need to switch their dry food to a weight management version and all 3 can eat it. I can also get weight management wet food if needed later, but for now Trixie can have the same wet as everyone else. Yay! Ah ha! As I was typing this, Trixie came up to me for some attention. I'm soooooooo glad she's not a cat that holds a grudge

Item picture from Walmart - notice the distressed paint effect: Review from clueless customer who can't even look at the picture correctly: There was slight paint scuffs where the teal color had come off but I'm not worried I really like either way.*SMH* At least the nitwits aren't limited to just eBay.

Jes what did Great Clips charge? I started going there in January or so. I have to go next week. I just get a simple short hair cut. We were paying $14 and now it's up to $17. Not that that's outrageous but if we both get cuts plus tips it's pretty much $44 bucks. And we tend to go every other month and with everything else so high, it's more of a squeeze. And of course the guy who cut our hair said they don't get any of it
Boy so tired of the heat already. There are a few chances of rain on the horizon, not much though.
A lady that I made friends with in book club (before I quit, the only lady I really got friendly with) was just diagnosed with breast cancer. And if that's not bad enough, her daughter was diagnosed at the same time. I'm not sure of all the details of the situation, I was invited to join a FB support group for them. She's probably 67 or so, I'm guessing her daughter is in her 40s. So any prayers for Pat and Angie would be appreciated.

According to the manager at the Great Clips I used to use, Great Clips stylists are W2 employees so they get paid by the hour plus some benefits, and they're supposed to get any tips given to them. If your stylist isn't getting the tips, then it's possible the manager is keeping the tips but in some states that is against the law.

The Great Clips here are franchise stores and the employees get W-2 forms.
I never heard there was an issue with getting tips when I went there and I had the same stylist for over 15 years until I finally broke down and now go to Thomas who is magic with layering and such. He charges a lot more but he is worth it.

So sorry about your friend and daughter. If I can help in any way, let me know. I am a certified Reach to Recovery counselor with the ACS. Patients can access my help and advice through the ACS site. There's also BreastCancer.org, with a ton of discussion groups depending on their chemos and situations. And also Facebook groups of the different chemos and stages. They will be in my prayers.

Sorry to hear about your book club member. I pay $17 here for a regular short cut. I tip $5.

I love my hairdresser since I have to fight to make her take $20. She cuts and dyes my hair and is coming here tomorrow. Super nice that she comes to my house.
I used to go to her house but she has 3 killer dogs and I am allergic to pet hair. She had to put them into her bedroom and they spent the whole time smashing against the door to get out to kill me....German Shepherd and 2 Pitt Bulls. I will admit to being afraid of them.

RetroMonde - I can't remember where the post about this was, but I had the T-dap in one arm and the Shingrix in the other yesterday. I have two sore shoulders now and feel like I have the flu - had to take today off and have been in bed a lot. I expect it'll pass off in a day or two. Those are fairly common symptoms for Shringrix and the same I had with my second and third Covid shots. The first Shingrix I had no symptoms at all, but the immunity kicks in for the second shot. Anyway, I would definitely get the shots two weeks apart.

I do not like Pits either. My cousin has two nice ones but I still don’t trust them.
Emptied out my car Wednesday. It is getting detailed today. I take everything out. It is not that dirty inside. I am rather anal about dog fur and I got that out today. Just a few hairs. I see some of the photos of dog fur in cars on a detail forum I follow. Nope. I prep my car before my dogs get in it.
