Just checking in to let everyone know I am doing ok. A friend told me to plant a few seeds as it shows hope and promise, I always wanted to grow Cilantro and Basil, so I bought 4 pots and 4 packs of seeds, I got Chives and Oregano also. This will either be a wonderful project or terrible learning experience. I have a lot of trouble keep plants alive. I have put a bench on my back porch where my desk looks out so I hope this will remind me to take care of them. As someone with a verified black thumb, I commiserate. But think of it this way, it's like cold hands, warm heart...black thumb, (fill in your compliment here).

We have fake owls out front and back to keep away the birds. They build nests under our deck and over our front spotlight. Set off our cameras and motion detectors all night long. Crap all over our cars and irritate me. The dogs chase them in the yard, catch them and eat them. They try to reach the eggs in the nest. So we try to keep them away. We still get them by our front door as we have 2 shrubs there. They scare me when I come home from work.
Hubby just did a fire caused by squirrels eating electrical lines in a house.

Jes, my suggestion is for you to schedule the cardio appointment, make a reservation with the facility to take your mom to the cardio appointment, and let your sister know it's a done deal. You don't need POA to get a Dr appointment for your mom, and you probably don't need POA to get the facility to take her to the doc if it's a service they regularly provide. You want anything done, you're going to have to be proactive and not rely on others. I learned that the hard way with my mom. Well I have called the dr to see if the facility has made an appointment for her or not. I guess you can't just call a doctor's office any more. It was some heart care facility and they asked which location and I told her and she took the info; my name and number, mom's name and birth date and my inquiry if an appointment had been made for her. And she said someone would get back to me. And that was this morning and they haven't yet, I am sure hoping they will today. If an appointment has not been made for her I plan to call the facility and inquire what is the procedure for getting appointments for specialists for the residents. Surely people there are seeing specialists. I am hoping they will call me back today, if not I'm just going to try and call the facility tomorrow and see if I can get anyone to help me either way, since tomorrow is already Friday.
Two weeks ago or so the nurse practitioner did order a chest ray and blood work for mom and those both came back good. In looking up diagnosing heart failure it said they do use xrays and blood work so if those are ok, maybe that's not it. But she did have a heart valve replacement about 16-17 years ago and they said it would last 15 years or so, maybe it is starting to fail? I really don't know. I am hoping the dr's office will get back to me today.
allikat I'm glad you are doing ok. We used to have birds (not sure what kind, I never did see them) that would nest in our mailbox every spring. It's the kind of box that's on the front of the house, the lid is lifted a bit because I have a clothespin on it for outgoing mail. And I kept finding debris in my box and couldn't figure out what was happening until there was an egg in there, I realized it was a bird's nest lol. I keep the box closed all the way this time of year as I don't want my mail crushing any eggs.
We have a ton of squirrels here, too. We have a pecan tree and in 23 years we've never gotten even one pecan, the squirrels get them all.

I have a screened in porch that I never use, yesterday I saw that the little birds (I think sparrows) were building their nest in there, the squirrels tore a hole in the screen. They were so busy all day taking in nesting material, DH used to get upset they were going to make a mess I don't care let them have their babies and I will hose off the porch I never use, lol, at least they are relatively safe in there. I would do anything for a screened patio!!! That's one thing I miss about living in Tampa, many of the apartments and other rentals had screened patios and balconies. Here, a few complexes do but I haven't done a drive thru or looked at any models yet. I need to do that this summer. I hate not being able to use my very large and very nice balcony because of a few annoying bees who don't seem to know the difference between real and fake flowers I need to make a pot of hot tea and get to work on sales tax returns. I think I'll make raspberry tea. Once I finish the sales tax returns and 2 payrolls, I'm taking off the rest of the day and tomorrow. Ahhhhhh....it's so nice to once again be an independent contractor and decide when I do and don't work

Jes- my care at the nursing home went through my PCP and oncologist, as well as the surgeon who operated on my leg. I don't understand WTH your mom's home is doing.

allikat - I think you made a great choice to plant spices - we have oregano, thyme and basic basically growing wild in our backyard, and do nothing to tend to them, just go out back in the summer and clip what we need for cooking. It's like they just raise themselves. They're supposed to need sun, but we don't get a lot of sun, but they manage fine with what we do get.
jesmelric - It's a shame that you're having so much trouble getting your mom into a cardiologist. Things are so screwed up right now with the long pandemic - I can't get into see a doc for months and all I need is a steroid shot in my heel so I can get going again, simple and quick. I can't imagine trying to get into see a cardiologist. It may be the heart valve as that will restrict blood flow. My doctor left our clinic abruptly and I had to find a new one - I wasn't happy about that. I really dislike going to see the doc and I really liked this one.
The rains stopped for a while today and the DH tried to get a long after-work ride in, only to have another front move in - he arrived home dripping and making quacking noises lol. He said a duck almost took him down on the way to work, as well. We also have suicidal rabbits. I just went to the gym - I can't do the treadmill block (orangetheory has guided workouts) so I'm on the bike, and I'm afraid I'm going to lose all of my running fitness and here I'm signed up for races. Oh well, first world problems, I realise. That and prepping and photoing made my day - I live the exciting life!

Unless your mom is on hospice I think you can make the appointments and take her. Is there paperwork only authorizing your sister to take her? That would be different from POA. POA is for financial stuff.

Well my sister got a message from the nurse practitioner this morning that an appointment hadn't been made yet and could she make it herself and let the nurse know, so apparently you can make the appointments for the residents. She asked me to do it and I did this morning, and the earliest appointment they had was June 9th!! I didn't think it was that bad here; DH and I haven't had any problems getting in at our primary and I haven't had any problems getting into the ob/gyn for my annual well woman, and he sees an ophthalmologist every three months for ocular hypertension and no issues getting in there either. I did tell the appointment lady that mom had a stroke last Feb and that she's in a nursing home. And that she's been tired, can't walk far, and is easily out of breath. I wish they had something sooner, but this dr has all her records going back the last 17 years. And my sister is going to have to call them anyway because they need mom's Medicare and Medicaid number and my sister has that, I don't.
Labby, she has both a financial and a medical POA.
I wish we were getting rain here, we are entering a drought situation. I watered my cherry blossom tree (really sapling lol) this morning. I hate to run the water so much, but I am really rooting for this tree!! (pun intended) We might get some rain Monday, but April showers don't seem to be happening here this year.
DH and I had planned to go to VV Sunday with his 25% off Bday coupon, but I got a message yesterday that they are doing a 50% off Earth day special today through Sunday so we are going tomorrow. DH is irritated because I want to get there pretty early, at least 45 min. It gets crowded and I need to be sure I get a cart! Now they discontinued the 50% frequent shopper cards I have to take as much advantage as I can when they do the 50% off.

Jes - you should get yourself added onto the POA or at least have copies of all your mother's medical cards, identification card, banking info, etc. When my aunt was in a nursing home, my sister, DS, and I all had copies of everything. So whoever was available at the time to do what had to be done, that person did it and had all the information they needed. It made things a lot easier. Don't depend on the nursing home to make appointments or anything of that sort. You and your sister have to be proactive and take it upon yourself to get things done.
The place my aunt was in up in Alaska was very nice but they were lax on this type of thing. We had to get my aunt to an orthopedic doctor to get an x-ray of her hip and get a cortisone shot, as he determined her hip pain was trochanteric bursitis. The staff at the nursing home kept giving her Tylenol and telling her it was old age/arthritis. After she got the shot she was able to lay down on that side again without pain. So don't depend on them to take notice of anything.

jesmelric, I'm surprised with your mom's symptoms that they won't fit her in sooner. My current cardio is insanely busy as he's only one of 3 docs in the city who do some specialty cardio surgeries, so those 3 docs rotate the ER calls, meaning routine appointments might be 3-4 months out. But if I have any kind of serious symptoms, they've had me come in the same day. It was the same way with my cardio in NM and in AZ. I did change cardios twice since I've been here. I wasn't real impressed with the first one I saw. I changed docs twice in AZ too. If your mom needs to change cardios, do it. Dr offices can easily transfer records now to the new doc, it's not a hassle like it used to be. Also, what kind of cardiologist is she seeing? I didn't realize it until I moved here, but there are sub-specialities within cardiology and your quality of care is GREATLY affected by getting the right doc for your heart condition. Mid 80s, cloudy and breezy here today. I need to go by the UPS Store and pick up my mail but I'm enjoying being totally lazy this afternoon. Maybe I'll just go tomorrow instead. I have a pickup and return to Kohls so I'll be out and about tomorrow anyway.

Specialist appointments where I live are super far out and we have some very large well regarded health systems. I called for a routine ob/gyn appointment in March. First available with my doctor? November. I took an appointment with an NP instead. But that is an 8 month wait for a routine appointment with a doctor I've seen previously.

Other than some pesky wind, the weather has been gorgeous the last few days. 82 today but I'm seeing 101 for Tuesday of next week. Getting ready to do some listing. Sales have been pretty bad and it has me frustrated, especially when I see how well a few competitors I follow are doing. Feeling like I need to up my Ebay game and maybe not turn my nose up at things that don't yeild as much as I like. Espeically if they're cheap and easy to list. I dread listing things for $15 and under, it adds up though. Have a load of inventory shopping to catch up on. Cliff is going out with me for a few hours later today. That'll help lighten the load a little next week.

Bliss-don't be afraid to list cheap things. I have spent the last few weeks listing kid's tops. The NWT haven't sold, but several of the used ones have. And even if under $10, that does add up!

Headed out to run errands. It will be nice to get out of the apartment for a while, even if it just for errands I'm glad I bought my Skecher sandals when I did last weekend. I found them right after QVC put them up, I think they were a Todays Special. The colors I ordered sold out in 2 days and now almost all colors are sold except in maybe 3 weird sizes. Talk about luck

Unfortunately I didn't have any luck. Either they weren't taking new patients, did not accept Medicare or Medicaid, or didn't have a new patient appointment until farther out than the one she already has. When my sister called with her Medicaid and Medicare numbers they did tell her we can call at the beginning of each week to see if there have been any cancellations and so we will definitely do that starting Monday. I looked him up and it says he is a general cardiologist with sub-specialities in Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Interventional Cardiology. I do know it was a different surgeon who did her valve replacement.
Windy and warm here today. We did find a few garage sales this morning and hit the 1/2 off VV sale. My back is tired lol. Youngest DD had the Dash airfryer I gave her when I got the Ninja and it already crapped out. Found a Go-Wise at a garage sale for $2 for her, and it works great! The guy said his wife got a multi-function one with the instant pot to save counter space. What a deal, DD will be very pleased

I am so excited for garage sale season to start. I didn't go to a single sale last year so I plan on doing "double time" this year! Hoping they will start in the next few weeks. It was warm here today but so windy it would have blown all your items away! The wind literally blew a stack of patio chairs all the way across my deck. ETA: I failed on the quote there.

DH and I are finally starting to feel better, though as always, the cough wants to linger for me. Unfortunately we hosted Easter last Sunday, before we knew we were sick, and some of our guests ended up with it as well. I feel terrible but I didn't get sick until Monday and felt perfectly fine on Sunday. SIL and I tried each others drinks so she was destined to get it. DH's mom got it as well and on top of that she is now having complications from her cataract surgery she had a few weeks ago. Hopefully I am back to 100% tomorrow and I can maybe bake some goodies and bring over to her. She is having to wear sunglasses, even in the house, and will be getting checked at least every other day this week. She loves my homemade blueberry muffins so I might get some fresh berries tomorrow and make her a batch.
I finally got into my disaster room with the collapsed rack. After getting the clothes moved, the rack itself actually broke and didn't just come apart as I'd hoped. I didn't leave the house today but I will have to buy another one tomorrow, along with a few more tubs. Then, I need to get my you know what to photographing and listing. I have way way too much backlog and haven't listed a single thing all month. We have a ton of items on our to do list for our house and yard this year, so some extra Ebay funds will be useful. I had a nice $49 sale for a vintage robe on Poshmark and they immediately asked to cancel, ugh!

Talk about a taste of summer. We've had 2 most excellent days yesterday and today hitting 83 degrees, bright sunshine and low humidity. About as perfect as can be. Tomorrow dropping to low 60s with rain and the rest of the week below normal back in 50s with 45 high Wed. and chance of rain/snow mix when it goes in the 30s at night. Really enjoyed these past two days. DH went over friend's house for a get-together and couldn't have picked a better day. My thrill was doing a load of laundry at MIL's. At least I know warm weather remembers where where we're at and hopefully show up again soon and stay a long while.

Great day here too. A girl who works for a vet does nail trimming on the side. She was going to do Gunner’s nails today. I took him for a walk and I gave him one doggie downer. Of course she sent me a message that she got bit at another house and had to go to Urgent Care and could we reschedule. I think I am going to try walking just him this week and see if I can get his nails down that way. Of course he keeps laying down on our walk.

Oh joy. Amazon informed me that yet ANOTHER package that was being shipped by AMZ is lost. It was supposed to be delivered yesterday to a locker, then got moved to today, and is now showing as due anytime between Monday and Wednesday. I canceled the order and ordered it from Vitacost instead. Breezy, partly cloudy and somewhat humid day today, mid 80s. The A/C in Kohls wasn't working very well and it was REALLY humid in there this afternoon. The return line was so long that I got back in the car, pulled into a curbside pickup spot, and requested curbside on my ship to store order. I have to go back later this week anyway when another order comes in so I'll take my return then. The cats are giving me dirty looks so it's probably time to refill the wet food bowls and then sit down for the nightly TV watching snuggle fest. They are sooooooo spoiled
