Good morning everyone! The rollercoaster weather continues here. Looking at SNOW showers today and tomorrow morning and temps up to almost 80 by end of week. Never made it out of the mid 30s yesterday. The winter gear stays at the ready at least another couple days. *sigh* Looks like another year where we pretty much skip spring and go right into summer and I can whine how hot and humid it is, lol. Hope everyone has a day, whatever you want to make of it.

We had a kitty rescue at work yesterday. Had a new guy on dispatch but luckily he told me about the call and called the on call facilities worker. Professor had work done (we have some faculty houses on campus) while she was away and kitty climbed into the floor joists. Professor got home and heard one of her kitties crying.
Worker came in and got kitty out. They think he climbed in the hole when the plumber was changing out a toilet.

Started out as rain, then frozen precipitation and in less than 20 minutes changed to huge snowflakes that have already covered everything in white except the parking lot, but even that's now getting slushy spots. Currently 36 degrees. Figured something was up when the only things sprouting were a few young trees with blossoms that haven't learned yet. Glad I don't have to go anywhere.

Eww I'll take the next 10 days of rain in our forecast rather than have any more snow/cold weather! Finished & fined our taxes last night and, in what is a yearly ritual, the Feds refused to accept them so I've gotta make an attempt at fixing whatever problem they are balking at. DH has a Google 1099-NEC with a blank line 7. The Feds want to know what's entered on that line. This will probably mean I eventually have to print out the return and escort it to the PO which is a madhouse on tax day. Ugh On a positive note, DS & GFs twins are due tomorrow- YAY!!

You have 10 days from the date of rejection to fix the return and efile it again, or to mail in a paper return. No need to rush to the PO today. Also, another trick for everyone. Print out your mailing label at USPS.com, dated today. You can then drop off the package in any mailbox today or within the next 2 days, since the "postmark" will read today. Preprinted postage is not stamped/cancelled so as far as the IRS knows, you did mail it on time.

Those are great tips Val- thanks! I think I know what the problem holding up my e-file is. They're asking for our AGI from line whatever on our 1040-sr. I'm giving them the exact figure. BUT last year they did an adjustment to our figures and asked for more $$. So I'll bet they adjusted the AGI and it's different now. I don't have the paperwork with the adjusted figure handy so my 2nd attempt at filing online will prob fail as well. So if they refuse it I'll do as you mentioned and then place their paperwork notices with THIS years tax papers so I'll be ready for them if it happens again. Again, thanks!!

If it fails with the AGI from the original return, try filing a third time using the adjusted AGI from the IRS. Since the adjustment came from the IRS, that number should be in the system.

I am super annoyed with our accountant. She had to file an extension this year because she took on too many clients to finish them all.
Also annoyed that we woke up to an inch of snow on the ground this morning. It's hovering around 36° so now it's all melty and drippy outside, and the MUD is back! I am so over this winter. Bun on a brighter note the weather people say it's going to be in the 80's for the weekend, which also sucks because we haven't had the chance to get acclimated to the hotter weather. Whatever happened to real spring? You know, the mild temps with soft breezes? I miss spring!!!

Another reminder for everyone - in 2021, business meals purchased from a restaurant are 100% deductible, and includes delivered meals. As usual, the meals have to have a business component to be deducted. All other meals are the usual 50%.

I get your annoyance, especially if you turned your stuff in early. OTOH, we're extending a lot of folks today that we didn't count on extending. There are a lot of reasons, some our fault, others the fault of clients. What often happens is some returns take longer than expected for various reasons, which then puts us behind on getting to other returns. It happens and there's not much we can do about it. It paid to shop online yesterday while the physical stores were closed for Easter. My favorite style of skecher sandals came out in new colors yesterday, my two favorite style of tops from QVC came out in new colors yesterday, and I discovered that Kohls carries Fiesta dinnerware. Between my kohls cash and my discount, I picked up the final two settings I'd been wanting for around 40% of normal price. Then I discovered a brand I like is sold on AMZ so while it wasn't any cheaper on Amazon, I did get something I'd been wanting with free shipping and I had a credit I needed to use up. Score! Today started out busy but now it's slowing down. Anyone that was not ready for review this morning is being extended today.

You can try logging in to the IRS site and getting the transcript and checking the information that way. It goes back several years. I use the site to see when my return was processed and the deposit date.

Snow stopped, at least for now and temps must have gone up a couple degrees to melt a tad already. Never looked bad enough to screw up roads, but mail didn't show up until after 5pm, and that's rare. We hardly have any birds around here anymore so I was surprised and thrilled to see a red headed woodpecker on a branch on the oak tree in front of our building. Haven't seen one around here in many, many years. Someone left a note in front of neighbors' door their dog barked all day and underlined "again". Must be whoever lives under them because I'm happy I don't hear it. I love dogs, just not howling hound dogs which folks under our apartment also have one that howls once in awhile and they both have LOUD decibel levels. Ours and another building used to be dog free (cats always o.k.) and I really wish it had stayed that way.
Sorry about working til 3am, labbypaws. I also hope the roads are good on the way home.

Ah, that's different when she promised too much by the due date. We've learned not to do that anymore (took us a while though!) and now we give a longer date than what we think it will be and try to finish the return early. Trixie hopped up on the favorite spot on the bookcase this morning, much to Toby's annoyance. So he sat on the other end of the bookcase. Trixie then decided she wanted to lay on the desk mat instead, but on her way to it she stopped so I could give her a chin scratch. While I was scratching her chin, Toby quietly got on the desk, walked behind the monitor and nabbed the fleece mat. It was Trixie's turn to shoot annoyed glares.

We got at least a couple inches of snow dumped on us overnight that the plow actually went through to clear the driveways this morning. Currently 34 degrees and off/on mix of snow and rain with gusty winds. Warmup is supposed to start tomorrow with high 55 and only day the rest of the week with no chance of rain so I'll be out and about enjoying it.

Hello everyone. So sorry for you guys that are still having winter weather! We had a beautiful day yesterday and today as well, with the humidity returning tomorrow. Unfortunately this time of year the cooler and drier days are fewer and farther between and will soon disappear entirely And unfortunately we are entering drought conditions with not much on the radar for the next week or so.
We had a nice Easter, I made a turkey dinner and my sister brought my mom and youngest DD came. Mom really enjoyed the dinner and most especially the homemade apple pie with homemade vanilla ice cream lol. My sister and I both noticed that her memory seems to be getting a bit worse. They still haven't made her a cardiologist appointment although my sister gave them her Dr's number a couple of weeks ago. They asked her yesterday for the dr's number again, hopefully they will make an appointment this time. Also they are supposed to have PT evaluate her for a wheelchair request (I'm guessing either medicare or medicaid will cover it). It's getting to where she can't walk any distance at all, like more than a few feet and she's tired and has to rest. Since her room's at the back this is taking forever when we visit or my sister picks her up for a visit here. Hopefully they will take care of that, it's an exercise in frustration to get anything done there.
I heard on the local news this morning that starting May 1 the post office is going to slow down first class packages by 1 or 2 days in an effort to save money. I sure hope eBay will adjust their expected timelines accordingly. I ship more than 1/2 of my stuff first class package.
We are going to VV Sunday, they send DH a birthday coupon for 25% off your entire purchase. It used to be 50% off but the way things are now I guess beggars can't be choosers! I will get one for my birthday next month and then they might do a Memorial day sale and/or 4th of July. But the sales are so crowded it makes it so much more difficult.

Her heart condition can be causing her weakness. Is there any way your sister can make the appointment and one of you take your mom to the cardiologist? The place my mom was in did not make the dr appointments, not even for the docs who did house calls. The resident or resident's family had to make the appointments, but the facility would take the resident to the appointment if family couldn't drive them. If anyone is eating low carb/keto, there are some new low carb offerings in the frozen dinner section now. Used to be it was just Atkins, but Atkins is insanely high in sodium. Healthy Choice has a line called Zero that is low carb/no sugar, and some of their Power Bowls are also low carb. Realgood Foods has a line of enchiladas made from tortillas that are made from chicken/cheese and they're really good too.

Jes, When I was in the nursing home, there was a wheelchair for me in my room for when I had to be transported anywhere. And when I was released, I had the choice of a walker or a wheelchair that was paid for by Medicare. I chose a walker and it was delivered to my room before I left.

jesmelric - I agree that it's got to be her heart. I've had two normally active elder relatives struggle with the same thing, one said he felt like he was 'winding down like an old clock', and they were both constantly breathless. One got a pacemaker and the other turned out to have congestive heart failure. They were treated and got back to their old selves, one able to fish again and and other could go back to work. Your mom definitely needs to get into the cardiologist stat!
We had a break in the rain today, but I'm laid up with a sore foot. Somehow or other I developed plantar fasciitis in my left heel - I guess I just didn't stretch out my calf muscles enough plus my running shoes are worn. I was doing OK with it, cut my running back and stayed off hills (coddling the foot did absolutely nothing when I had it before and my running friend just ran through his bout), icing, stretching, exercises, etc., then got carried away on a run and did hills and got too far from home as I had been doing great, so turned around but ended up hobbling back, and have been at home with my foot up on an ice bag for two days - it's finally improving with better stretches and wearing shoes in the house, and I'm starting with my barefoot walking again 5 minutes a day. I'm on a better stretching program to prevent recurrence and staying away from hills. And new shoes. As soon as I'm on my feet again it'll probably start raining and I'll get my new shoes all wet. I apologized to my foot for getting so carried away. Guess I'm on the bike for a while and back to little short runs. Walking irritates it but running (f I stay on the flats and keep it to 3 miles or less) doesn't.

I have a pair of older Hookas to use after rain. We have good weather today so I am going to get out in a bit. May take 2 dogs. I did the same two a few weeks ago and they walked well together. Just trying to catch up on my sleep. Always seems the weather is nice when I am beat up and achy.
They were looking for someone to stay last night to drive the van to take Covid kids to the hotel and decided to just have them stay where they were until this morning. We already had one force over last night. Hoping the new associate director can address the shift illnesses.

Realgood Foods has a line of enchiladas made from tortillas that are made from chicken/cheese and they're really good too. My relationship with my sister is somewhat complicated and sometimes fraught. She has POA and is supposed to be taking care of things like that. She is often overwhelmed by everything. It is frustrating. I did suggest; hey maybe they allow you to make the appointment and they just provide transport? The reply I received was: I don't know. I don't drive (I don't think mom would like riding in my bike basket lol) and my sister will complain about everything from the cost of gas to the time she has to take to do it. Conversely she expresses a lot of concern for mom. I have told her I think it might be congestive heart failure and it would be best to get her to a cardiologist asap. I mean she's been losing a lot of steam the last few weeks, it's pretty obvious. I know it's difficult to get through to people at the facility and get call backs, etc, but she acts like it's a mountain to climb. So here we are. She did text the physician's assistant this morning and was told they would reach out to the nurse and have the nurse get back to my sister, which they probably will not. And she will not bother to take the time to try and call herself. So I guess we'll see.
Chap, sorry to hear about your plantar faciitis. I have have had it before myself and it's definitely not fun. I hope it resolves quickly!
We are quite windy here today, and are supposed to be through Friday. We sure have been windy a lot lately. It's like no rain and lots of wind. I wonder what's up with that?

How does that song go, "What a difference a day makes.....24 little hours.......". Currently 50 and bright sunshine all day and though still light jacket weather, gorgeous compared to yesterday's blustery, snowy cold. All but a few chunks of snow are left. Felt great to get out and about again and got almost everything on my list. Looks like good chance of rain the next 7 days. With all the April showers (rain and snow), there had better be a lot of May flowers to show for it next month.
Jes, I can relate to the difficulty you're having (remember, I had to deal with "It" in similar circumstances with my Mom). Is there any way she can authorize you to make the phone call(s) and set up an appointment?

Jes, my suggestion is for you to schedule the cardio appointment, make a reservation with the facility to take your mom to the cardio appointment, and let your sister know it's a done deal. You don't need POA to get a Dr appointment for your mom, and you probably don't need POA to get the facility to take her to the doc if it's a service they regularly provide.
You want anything done, you're going to have to be proactive and not rely on others. I learned that the hard way with my mom.

I had a hummingbird visit my patio today. I felt so bad, it checked out the multicolored wind chime and two flower arrangements (fake!) and was probably disappointed in me. No feeder for the little guy. I'd love to put one up but I'm having problems with bees with fake flowers, I can only imagine how bad it might be with a hummingbird feeder.

Just checking in to let everyone know I am doing ok. A friend told me to plant a few seeds as it shows hope and promise, I always wanted to grow Cilantro and Basil, so I bought 4 pots and 4 packs of seeds, I got Chives and Oregano also. This will either be a wonderful project or terrible learning experience. I have a lot of trouble keep plants alive. I have put a bench on my back porch where my desk looks out so I hope this will remind me to take care of them.
I also found a new thrift shop that donates to dog rescue organization. I have a few really nice things that Platos rejected I am going to put a bag together of the better things and see if they want them. It is called Fetch.
I scheduled another massage for next Wednesday, I probably should have done it this week as I pulled a muscle in my butt moving rocks around the yard, lol.
My DH had never seen a hummingbird feeding until we were traveling last summer, we stayed with the most wonderful people on their farm and there were hummingbirds everywhere. When we got home there was a package from them that had a hummingbird feeder in it for DH, once it warms a little here I will put it out.
I have a screened in porch that I never use, yesterday I saw that the little birds (I think sparrows) were building their nest in there, the squirrels tore a hole in the screen. They were so busy all day taking in nesting material, DH used to get upset they were going to make a mess I don't care let them have their babies and I will hose off the porch I never use, lol, at least they are relatively safe in there.

Alli-I think that it will be easy to grow your herbs. Sun and water is all they need. And I am betting that you will decide to grow even more kinds.
My back porch is open and I usually have 2 nests of birds every summer. The only time that I didn't appreciate the nest was when I had robins there. They would constantly dive-bomb me when I went out onto my porch.
Sorry about your butt-muscle..giggle.

Glad you're well, allikat, and hope many hummingbirds visit the feeder. Thanks for checking in.
You might want to reconsider letting the sparrows build a nest. Our building got an upgrade years ago that left a narrow gap in the corner of our balcony sparrows decided squeezing into and building a nest. I got tired of the poop all over everything. They returned every year, too. DH finally found a piece of wood and nailed the gap shut. The sparrows kept trying to get it open without success and there were up to a dozen sparrows all over the balcony for 3 or 4 days before they finally figured out they weren't getting back in and left. Then the squirrels decided to start their destruction. If the squirrels tore a hole in the screening and decide to make their home(s) on your porch (they did it twice while we were on vacation the last 2 years), they'll destroy the porch and more when they keep breeding in the safe haven you're providing. And you definitely don't want one in your house if you open the door to hose off the porch.
