I just heard about this tonight on my local news. This is in my state of PA, but maybe other states have this also? I filled out the application online and the kit will be sent to me. I need this since I can't have BP, IM's or IV's in either arm. I do wear a medical alert bracelet when I leave the house, but this would be added info.
This program was created to assist citizens in the “golden hour” of emergency care following a traffic accident when they may not be able to communicate their needs themselves. Placing a yellow dot in your vehicle’s rear window alerts first responders to check your glove compartment for vital information to ensure you receive the medical attention you need.

I've never heard of this, what a good idea! Oldest DD is allergic to penicillin and I always worry about that. Ironically she is allergic also to nickel so she can't wear the medical alert bracelets.

I had a medic alert bracelet that was silver metal of some kind, but it was ugly. So I bought a gold one. It was only $99 and ironically was sold by a jewelry store on eBay and was about 1 mile from the Pittsburgh hospital where I had my surgeries.
I also have a gold pendant medic alert that hangs on a gold necklace.
I am also allergic to penicillin but never thought about that alert. But that info is on my medical records.

They probably have nickel free bracelets but I can imagine she'd say it's too ugly. I always think if she was in some kind of accident and they gave penicillin to prevent infection she would have a reaction. She developed an allergy when she was 11 and taking it for pharyngitis. She got hives that turned into HUGE WELTS and we ended up taking her to the ER.

Penicillin gives me a neck-to-toe rash. My bracelet is really nice, being gold and all....Looks like a regular ID bracelet.

The good news is penicillin is no longer one of the main "go to drugs" because of all the allergic reactions.
It's a cool program, Denise. I wonder if other states do the same thing?

In Maryland here and we used to have a few different programs like that, but they just weren't that effective. The biggest one was the "Vial of Life" program where you put a sticker on your doors and emergency services were to look for the vial in your refrigerator. It was just a brightly colored medicine looking bottle with paper inside with all your medical history.
I sent 26 years in the fire department and very few people had the vial and often it was out of date.
