Good morning everyone! Spring break week for the kids around here so it will be nice to get a week reprieve trying to avoid school buses. Another rainy week with temps still up and down slowly getting a little warmer. With all the April showers, we should hopefully get a lot of May flowers. Trees still have no leaves sprouting so that seems to be the real indicator spring is here. Good Friday and Easter this weekend if you celebrate. And dreaded tax filing deadline on the 15th. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

We are pretty much leafed out here except for the pecan trees that seem to be lagging behind. It seems like some of them leaf out overnight.

Hot water tank is being replaced this morning so no water til probably early afternoon. Gloomy and raining and have to take MIL to the dentist in an hour. This should be interesting as the office is a converted house with a few steps on one side, steep ramp on the other and outside door, narrow entrance and another door and trying to maneuver her in a transport chair. Rain will only add to the challenge and her whining. Looking forward to a hot shower and adult beverage when I get back.

We are pretty much leafed out here except for the pecan trees that seem to be lagging behind. It seems like some of them leaf out overnight. That's what I was thinking Saturday - that it was like the leaves all blew off the weekend before and then ta-da! Fully leafed out overnight! I had a major thunder and lightning storm pass over my place last night. The first round of lightning was so bright and the accompanying thunder so loud it scared me and the cats. Simon was the brave one though, he decided to go sit by one of the living room windows and watch it iCanvas is going to do a one-time courtesy replacement of the delivered canvas that was either misdelivered or stolen on Saturday. As usual, the UPS delivery person did not knock and it appears it was stolen in the hour or so between the delivery and one of the many times I looked out my door (or delivered to the wrong building and the recipient has the same taste in art as I do) I suspect they're only doing it because I'm a regular customer, but I'm not complaining. And I'll probably order from them again. I'm having them deliver the replacement to my UPS Store address though. What really pisses me off is the buyer is the one who loses out when the damn UPS and Amazon delivery people don't knock, so you don't know you have a package...and it gets stolen because of that. As for the comment "well you should have a safe place for deliveries", the apartment office is open 7 days a week and is always willing to accept tenant packages. So any thefts due to no knocking is on UPS and Amazon IMO. Oh well. Guess I'm going back to all deliveries to the UPS box or via Amazon locker. Humid, warm and cloudy here today. Bleah. Toby has a vet visit tomorrow, his throat appears to be hurting him again.

Woke up to an inch of SNOW today with a winter storm warning. In Portland in April- crazy! I've gotta go turn on a heater in my greenhouse; last week I had its exhaust fan on because it was too warm inside. Hope our seedling veg & flower plants were okay with a freeze last night. This is our magnolia tree in full bloom- I've never seen it surrounded by snow. I roasted a small turkey yesterday so we're eating leftovers today- the snow outside makes it feel sorta Thanksgiving or Christmas-ish. Beginning our tax prep today- gotta organize all my Godaddy Bookkeeping data. Then as a reward I'll go to the thrift store. Good times :-)

Cold and damp here today - it's snowing on and off south of us. My elderly espresso machine sprang a leak and I have to take it into the shop today, which means me digging myself out of my North City kingdom to venture down into Seattle.

We had some thunderstorms this morning. Since I planted Saturday that's a good thing. Now it's sunny and windy and more rain expected tomorrow. Hopefully I can get the lawn mowed tomorrow morning.
I had my well woman this morning, glad to get THAT over with! The kids came over for cake yesterday for DH's birthday, so that was nice. He's off today, but back to work tomorrow.

Simon is so stinking cute. He likes to lay in my lap while I'm at the computer. He sits back half on the arm of the chair, front half on my leg, and his chin propped up on the desk. (talk about LAZY!). Unlike the other two who walk around the keyboards, Simon walks ON them and is constantly changing the settings on my Mac. The final straw was Saturday when he walked on the PC keyboard and somehow hit the right combination of keys to shut down the PC. Today he's getting schooled in proper Desk Etiquette For Cats Fortunately he's a fairly cooperative and fast learner.

Hubby cut the grass today. Not sure if he got the one side of the yard outside the fence. It was a swamp this morning. I picked up the neighbor's branches so hubby didn't have to do it.
Emergency eye appt this morning as I had an issue that started Friday. Ended up being a floater. Last time I had an issue the dr told me to get right in. Last time I had an aura type visual event followed by a small black dot in my vision field. Luckily this time it was a floater - in the other eye. Going back in 4 weeks for a regular visit. I haven't bee there since Covid started.

We've had precipitation in one form or another for 17 of the last 20 days. At least it was warmer here today. I'm usually fairly oblivious to being cold, but I've been chilly and can't seem to kick that and get warm. Not sick, just chilly. I hate wearing long sleeves but had to keep my sweatshirt on. Weather warm up later this week!

Fortunately, the floaters gradually absorb. I had quite a few of them and for a while they were really annoying. It all started when I was running at night on a really crappy sidewalk, tripped over a root rise and went flying - I rolled as I went down to land on my back, but wasn't quite quick enough and landed strangely on one arm and must have bumped my eye on the ground. Next morning I found that my left eye had lost its peripheral vision - it was all just swimming in light and flashes. I got into to see an optical tech - she was really good and diagnosed a vitreous detachment and said to stay quiet for six weeks. The DH had a retinal detachment and that's a lot more serious - it happened right about the time I crash landed and I had to take him in for emergency surgery - we were a real pair. I was trying to get him home from the surgery - we had to go into Suburban Hell to get the work done, it was Thanksgiving Eve, raining, at night and there were lights glaring everywhere off the wet streets, I had a cast on my left arm from breaking my wrist when I went flying, I couldn't see out of my left eye, he couldn't see anything and had his head in his lap, and I kept getting lost because I was unfamiliar with the neighbourhood.
ETA: No one got badly hurt, but cripes some people are horrible drivers. This one fell off the road into the parking lot at a bakery down in town where my running friend lives.

I dropped Toby off at the vet this morning. They'll call me when he's ready to pickup. I'm hoping it's been long enough since the last steriod shot that they can safely give him another. They may also run labs today, but I asked them to call me first. Simon's not happy that his play buddy is MIA right now. I did tell him Toby would be home by dinnertime. The wind is pretty gusty today, it wouldn't surprise me if I lost another of my Chinese lanterns today. I started with 3, now it's 2. I'm probably going to replace them with a couple of windchimes or spinners. Well, back to the grind - taxes are due Monday I did FINALLY get one client's POS (point of sale - cash register) report to balance enough that we can use it to verify sales and cash every month. We've had to get with their POS "expert" multiple times to get things on their system fixed. Deposits don't match sales (which tells us there is a good bit of cash floating around somewhere) and we wanted to be able to track both this year, so we can get some answers from them. They SWEAR everything is deposited and nothing is paid out of the register drawer except tips but their own reports shoot that down

When I retired in May I swore I would never do another tax return, just picked mine up from my new accountant who is absolutely wonderful. I feel fortunate he took me on as a client since I have such an involved tax return for the next 2 years. Then it should simplify to the point that I could almost do it myself again but I won't, lol. They even gave me a chocolate bar when I picked up my return today. Before I contracted Covid I hated chocolate, I have been craving it for the last 2 months even though I cannot taste it. So I eat a bite or 2 to kill the craving which seems to work. Scheduled another massage for tomorrow. Working on taking care of myself, I have never put myself first so this is a whole new experience. Guess I have to shave my legs tonight

I just checked our weather after seeing Chaps comment- we show snow flurries overnight but hopefully it won't stick. But just for extra weather pizzazz they're predicting a mild windstorm with pea-size hail AS WELL AS the chance of a funnel cloud or 2. And to think we had the baby shower on our deck 3 weeks ago because the weather was so fine! I've been working on our taxes today- I'm mostly done sorting the banking data now so tomorrow I'll gather the rest of the stuff and organize it.

This is a first for me - Amazon says "your package may be lost". It was shipping from AMZ, too, not a third party seller.

Kritter - if you need any more of that mulch the sale ends today (in my area and online). I just ordered 25 more bags yesterday to pick up today. Thanks again for letting us know about the sale. You saved us a LOT of money as I usually buy it locally from ACE or Agway and they are triple the price (5.99 bag) if not on a rare sale.

Got up at 6:30am when DH was leaving for work. Had to take MIL to another dentist to get tooth pulled. Let's just say I am happy that's over with and back home.

The doctor's office had to reschedule all of his morning appointments due to him having to do an emergency surgery this morning. Unfortunately the staff member doing the rescheduling was new and didn't call everyone, just certain ones that another staff member had highlighted. The lady checking in before me wasn't called, nor was I. I didn't really mind, I had them do an INR test and then I just came home. I got home earlier than planned so I'm happy. I wonder how many others they didn't call? Anyhoo I'm rescheduled for June. It was just a checkup anyway. Maybe this way I can take a few pounds off before the next visit

We are warm and windy here again, the much promised rain did not occur. Just a very brief shower yesterday and nothing today and we really need it. It looks like I will be watering the plants today. We are supposed to cool off tomorrow and that will be nice.
I defrosted the deep freezer today, always a pain but feels good when it's done. And it will stay organized for at least a little bit, too I took my Easter turkey out and put it in the fridge. I got it free from Kroger at Thanksgiving. And it's good to take an inventory. I still have a good deal of meat which is good with today's prices! We have switched DH from wings to thighs, and the marinated fajitas we would pick up at El Rancho are out, they were about $9 and now a pack is almost $20. It makes me wonder, how much meat do they really sell at that price?

Not sure I will need any more but I will be at the Walmart right next door so why not. I guess I can check the dead plant table while I am there. I knew from past experience that mulch would be coming up on sale within the next couple of weeks so was glad that I checked the ad when I did. No way would I ever pay full price for mulch. Not ever.

I just requested a refund. They still show it in stock, so I can't decide if I should reorder it or go with something similar from Walmart.

Went for a short walk today. Took my lazy 5 year old Lab mix. Slow walk. Still dealing with inflammation. Trying to get my dog’s nails down by natural means. He is the only one that won’t let me trim his nails. I can do his back ones but he decided since he bites his front ones that I shouldn’t trim them.

Whoever makes up these "national (insert whatever) day" obviously lives in a warmer climate. Temps the next 7 days here range from 43 to 64 for highs and too brrr cold at night to be digging let alone planting a garden.
At least we're getting another break in the rain. Colder than yesterday, but at least the sun's out. Need to go to a couple places and hope stores aren't very busy so I can get what I need and get back home.
