Thanks everyone for the suggestions on weeds. I am actually scared of round up lol. I did get the Preen and spread and watered it before mulching so I am hoping it will be effective. I got some more azaleas. We had beautiful pink ones when we first bought the house in 1999 but they kept growing and blocking the bay window and I trimmed them too much and they got to where they would only bloom on the bottom So we removed them and I planted dwarf ones. And they have worked out nicely except they are re-bloomers so they bloom several times a year but not as copiously. And I don't really have another sunny area in the front but I have noticed plenty planted in shade in my neighborhood and they have tons of blooms. So I got a different color dwarf to plant with my others (my knockout roses didn't make it through last year's winter freeze) and three others we planted in part sun. And some begonias, they typically do well for me. Some vinca and a couple of ferns. It was a gorgeous day and nice to be outside except we are pretty sore today.
And this morning at Kroger I got a cherry blossom tree! Of all things lol. I didn't think cherry blossom trees would grow here, but this one (Yoshini) says it will, so I had to have it for $20.00. DH planted it in the back yard in full sun, I sure hope it thrives as it would be LOVELY to have cherry blossoms!
Well I just had a buyer offer $10 on something listed at $38 and I declined so another offer came in for $11, ugh really? Block city. Why do people do that?

Supposedly, our last frost date is May 15, but we never plant the garden before Memorial Day. If we do, it never fails that we're running around covering things because of a frost warning.
Yesterday, we had gropple (yes, that's a real word!). It's snow, but instead of being flakes it's like teeny tiny snowballs falling from the sky. Lasted long enough to cover the ground for a bit, but melted pretty quickly.

My knockouts have been on a blooming spree for about 2 weeks now. I cut it back in January so maybe that helped.

jesmelric Azaleas and cherry trees grow and bloom like crazy here despite our cloudy climate - the cherry trees in fact are one of our signature trees - we have 'cherry blossom season', people go out the look at particularly spectacular displays, etc., so I think they'll do well in partial shade. I'm looking forward to the giant rhododendron trees in a neighbour's yard to start blooming - they're enormous, close to 15 feet high, if not taller, and very round. There are three of them lining their dirt driveway so it looks like you're looking into a huge garden rather than someone's front yard. I have three friends down with Covid now - all three are quarantining and they were/are all sick in bed, one is finally able to get up, his fever has broken and he's taking walks outside. He's had to take off work for over a week in quarantine and is staying off work for another four days, but so far it doesn't seem like he has parasomia, which would be devastating to someone in his line of work as he's a chef.

Beautiful trumpet vines! I have never seen those. Maybe they don't grow here?

Yesterday when I took back a toilet handle to Lowes, they had hanging baskets, originally for $12.98, but for sale for $9. I got a yellow and purple pansy one. But it is residing in my garage and I will take it out next week during the day for some sun.
I have 3 hooks for hanging pots on my back porch, and for the other 2 hooks, I ordered baskets from the cancer Relay for Life for $25 each. That is a lot to pay for a hanging basket, but last year they were huge and gorgeous....I had yellow, pink and purple petunias.
We really can't plant here until next month and last May it kept getting cold so often. I had trimmed all of my flowering shrubs and had to keep covering them.

Beautiful trumpet vines! I have never seen those. Maybe they don't grow here? I don't see them here either. I ordered some about 3 years ago after I saw one at a house one street over. That was the only one I had ever seen here. I have never seen them for sale here even in the boutique plant nurserys. So, I planted 4 of the ones that I ordered and only one made it through the super freeze last year. I had taken several cutting before the freeze hit and planted them last spring. I took cutting from those plants last February before our cold snap and those are what I am planting now. They root very easily and I am a rookie at cuttings. I think I have planted at least 12 of the cuttings in the front yard so far so am anxious to see how they do.

Denise, when we lived in Chester Co, PA a neighbor had some trumpet flower plants like kritter's. She called them datura. I googled and I think they are the same plant as angel trumpet. I got used to a lot of common names of plants being different in different parts of the country. I was glad I had some knowledge of scientific names of plants to help me understand.

On Facebook, I am on gardening sites and get to see amazing pictures of flowers. How I wish that I had the money and ability to plant all of them! I have a half-acre yard and so much room to do great things. My daughter will have a great time plating stuff when she gets my house. Her yard is tiny but will be filled with flowers this summer.

They're especially gorgeous growing over stone and brick fences. They do well in Phoenix and ABQ too, with just a little drip irrigation. And they were all over the place in Florida. I'm guessing they're fairly hardy if they can survive Dallas, Albuquerque, Phoenix and Florida I was waiting on UPS to delivery something only to find out they supposedly delivered at 1:48 today. I've been home all day and randomly checking my front door. No knock, no delivery, and I don't remember hearing any delivery trucks like AMZ, Fed Ex or UPS stop in front either. I've emailed the retailer, maybe they can find out what happened to it.

I have noticed this as well along with the pronunciations of certain flowers. When I lived in VA I always heard a peony pronounced as "pee-oh-nee" not "pee-a-nee". In fact, I had never heard it pronounced the latter way until living in the midwest.

During Covid I took a ton of floral photos at work. Even now I take them when I spot something that looks great. They spend a lot of time on the flowers and plants. If I get a chance later I will try to post a few.
We don’t do flowers or plants in our yard. I have no desire to do anything like that. Add in that I could only do it in the front as digger dogs would dig them up. My parents had a few shrubs in the back and the dogs tore them apart so we removed the rest. We do have a few azalea bushes and some evergreens in the front.
Finally getting some sun. I was able to Frontline the dogs. They are a week overdue. I do it at 5 weeks so it had been 6.
Going to have frost tonight.

Oh wow that must be gorgeous! If you have a photo, I'd love to see it. We have azaleas like that here in the neighborhood, they are so lovely. I'm not familiar with rhododendron so I looked it up and found this out:
All azaleas are Rhododendrons but not all Rhododendrons are azaleas. Most Azaleas are deciduous, but true Rhododendrons are usually evergreen.Azaleas have funnel shaped flowers. Rhodi flowers tend to be bell-shaped.
I do see rhododendrons are hardy to zone 8 and I am in zone 9, so I guess it's just azaleas here. They are both lovely.
I hope your friends are feeling better, thank goodness your chef friend did not get the parasomia! It's bad enough for someone who's livelihood does not depend on it. I think it was more common with Covid Alpha which is what I had, and seems less common with other strains, thank goodness. It seems the anosomia is less common and without that you don't get the parasomia. Mine is improved, but it's still there around the edge of my tongue, which of course makes my lips taste weird, so of course I have to keep licking them like an idiot. And for some strange reason the tongue/lip taste is stronger when I am soaking in the tub. Maybe affected by humidity?
Kritter your knockout roses are gorgeous! Mine must have been a different type, the petals did not look like that, they were kind of like a single petal all the way around without the layered petals.

jesmelric I think there are different types of the Knockout roses. I have seen the ones like you had; I think they were yellow. I am really not that much of a rose plant buyer but those 3 must have been on a super sale for me to have bought them. They have been there for years and continue to put on a show every year. Only the middle one is the Knockout. The other two are different kinds. I am sure I bought the lavender one because of the color. I don't feed any of my plants ever so it is outstanding that they do so good. If all the angel trumpets that I have planted in the front for the last two days make it, It is going to be an outstanding display. I still have 12 more to plant in the back.

I have a black thumb. If someone sends me flowers and I even touch them, they bow their heads and die. I wish people wouldn't send me flowers. Over and out.

Wow. Even selecting "ships from Amazon" is no guarantee you'll get it when promised. Ordered an item that was shipped by AMZ and was supposed to be delivered today. This morning they changed it to tomorrow. I just happened look for something else I'd ordered, to reorder it, and noticed the delivery is now scheduled for "April 11 - April 12". Guess they want to leave themselves some additional wiggle room. *sigh* Good thing it's not anything critical. This has happened on my last 5 orders now. At this rate, I'll go back to getting it from other retailers and pay less. Partly cloudy, breezy and 87 here. I did discover that several of the bike trails near me are shaded trails - lots of trees. That means I can bike mid-day or early afternoon, less popular times, and still be comfortable. Now I just need to go by a bike store and buy a bike I found one nearby that sells used and new, with good google reviews. I really miss having a bike, and it appears San Antonio has some good bike trails.

You must be ordering tricky things. I ordered two things on Friday and they arrived today. Just about everything I order from Amazon is here in two days even though they say it will take longer when ordered.
If it was cheaper someplace else, I would have bought it there in the first place.
But, my middle name is "cheaper always wins" so there is that.

I know my chef friend was a bit short of breath but mostly it was like a really bad cold with fever and he's much better now. I haven't chatted further with the other two and I'll probably find out more. There was a break in the rain so the DH took off on a bike ride - it was only in the upper 30s, though, so he was kitted up like January - the sun actually came out for a while, but he did get bonked with hail at one point when he got 20 miles north of here. Now it's clouding up again and the next front moving in. The passes are still snowed in - the snow sports people are probably going nuts - I was going to go up snowshoeing with my cousin and a friend, but we just never got ourselves together.
