My guy took 4 trees down and hauled everything away for $800. I didn't even bother dickin' around with other estimates. If I like the guy, he can come within a few days, and it seems a fair price to me then I am all in.
I wanted to get the trees down before they leafed out and they were starting to do that so time was of the essence.

Wow to $800! I felt bad for my tree but I couldn't tolerate all of the leaves and the falling branches, etc. And every time we had a storm, I was afraid that it would fall on my house and since it was behind my bedroom, that wouldn't be good at all. Squish.

I didn't feel bad for my trees. Three were black walnuts and one was a mountain laurel. The black walnuts are a total mess in the fall and I decided they had to go.
Now I can start doing my planting. I noticed that my roses in the back yard are already blooming. Some of the bougainvillea are starting to show up but the ones I planted in the front are still no shows.

Sebastian Yatra's pink tux was pretty cool. Rosie Perez' red dress was gorgeous. Reba McEntire's emerald dress was really pretty too, but she almost always has a great dress. Way too many women had on black though - boring. And Denzel Washington has really gained some serious weight I liked the pink tux. There was enough going on to make it interesting & his skin pulled it off. Most of the women wearing pale pink were pasty white & it didn't do them any favors. I'll have to look up Rosie & Reba, I hadn't seen those. ETA: Just looked, Rosie's beautiful old Hollywood Glamour. Reba - meh, very old lady, but the color looked great on her & that's huge, so it's a win.

I didn't watch the Oscars, but I saw all the references to the Will thing on the fashion shows & red carpet shows. Is it just me or does anyone else think it's weird, that a grown man, supposedly a tough guy, SLAPPED someone else? Seems like such a sissy thing to do. Like if you're a tough guy & you're going to take the violence route, wouldn't you punch them? What's up with a guy slapping another guy? Weird. On another note, I did not like most of the dresses either, I hated the breast cups on several of them, like Tracee Ellis Ross & that "queer brown girl" (what she called herself) who won. It looked better on her, than Tracee, but didn't look good on either one. I hated all the pale pink too.
zoesam - an open handed slap is for two reasons - the first is admonishment, rather than damage - as a former boxer I can say that an open-handed slap hurts, but that's it - a punch is an entirely different thing. The second is a sign of 'disrespect', a slap rather than a punch is saying that the other guy isn't worth breaking your knuckles on. I will say that in this context either one is simply a symbol of men being unable to react in a more adult way to situations like this. But a slap at least minimized any damage.
The entire episode was so stupid, but seems on par for the kind of fame-baiting the Oscars are. And their ugly 'gowns.'
Ok, that makes total sense. Still made him look like a sissy though, esp when everyone was like "he's from Philly" implying that he was from a tough hood.

I won't use ND. More egregiously unethical & spying & privacy issues than FB & that's saying a LOT. It's a shame, as it provides a valuable service, but no freaking way.

ND is funny when people ask about doctors or dentists. A dozen people will love a doctor, and then 6 people will say how horrible he/she is.

That doesn't matter, though - what matters is the effect and intent. Still, even with that restraint, they're grown ass men engaging in juvenile behaviour. Anything to gin up the sagging ratings, I guess.

We had contacted an Amish man about taking down our trees but he was booked 6 months in advance.
So many people jump in on the local Facebook pages when someone asks “I need a cleaning person” or whatever. I start by looking at their profile and people don’t realize how important it is to have a respectable profile photo and “about” information if one is advertising themselves for a job.
I see people buy flooring and then ask for recommendations for an installer. I am afraid to make that jump.
I most certainly want my living room, dining room, vestibule and hall painted but am afraid to take that leap. I want the person who responds to do the job themself. Not give a price and send “Joe”. I had that happen with my truck. Picked a detailer who did the services I wanted but then he came with 3 other guys. He used my new car to teach a guy how to use a buffer. I was miffed. Plus I had to tip 3 people instead of 1.

Toby is headed to the vet in about 30 minutes, to get his teeth cleaned and a small bump checked out. If needed, they'll also remove the bump today. He couldn't have food or water after midnight, so none of the kitties got food or water after midnight. Needless to say, I'm VERY popular this morning They're all hanging by the desk as I type this, patiently waiting for food. Once I get Toby in the carrier, I'll put some water and dry food out for Trixie and Simon before I head out the door with Toby. I used a really good handyman service to put the plant hangers up on the patio last year. I may have to use him again, to put the very long curtain rods up. But I thought I'd try to do that myself first. It won't be that bad on the patio, because it can rest on the plant hangers as I install it. Putting up the one between the office and the living room might be a problem though - I may need a second person.

I took a chance with a painter when I was making updates to get my house rented. Worked out fine. It was someone in my neighborhood that had their business name on their truck. I'd use him again for sure. I prefer to ask around and get referrals from people I know and trust. Haven't had any bad experiences but I don't have all that much done. Definitely wouldn't trust anyone on Facebook unless I could read on line reviews.

My ND is big on lost and found dogs, porch pirates, reviews on places to eat, and fireworks/gunshots in the neighboring areas. We seldom seem to have fireworks or gunshots in my area because it is a small city with a big police force.
Everybody that I have found reviews from ND on and have used has turned out to be great. I especially look for reviews from neighbors in the incorporated city that I live in because we have our own permit requirements and vendor registration so knowing that they know the rules in play is essential.
I always let them know that I found them through reviews on ND so they know that my review will most likely be added. I intend to start a new thread on Hector, the tree guy, to bump him up going into the tree cutting season here.

Not to worry, Toby, you are in good hands. Terrell's vet comes back from maternity leave next Tuesday and he will be one of her first appointments. Both Terrell and I are hoping for good news. He will have been in foster for 11 months and on medication for 10 of those months for two different bacterial infections.

I had to medicate one of my birds for 6 months, of course it wasn't the tame one. Poor Phil the cockatiel needed eye drops 2 times a day and oral antibiotics once a day. You would have thought with all the handling he would have become somewhat used to it but no, just as uncooperative and angry after 6 months as he was before, lol. He is all good now and a real sweetheart as long as you don't try to handle him. For some reason all bites while medicating seemed to land between fingernail and skin in cuticle area and hurt like heck. He is very lucky I don't give up. He is fine now and no recurrence of eye infection.
I am doing good, life insurance is giving me a pain now, lol.

I am doing good, life insurance is giving me a pain now, lol. Sorry about that. It was so easy when my dad died. Same with when my mom died. They are contesting the payout because we switched companies in February 2021 and DH died in January 2022, so all policies that are under 2 years old are automatically contested. They look at all medical history for 7 years. There is nothing to look at DH was healthy, nothing hiding and he just died of Covid. Not sure what they they think they are going to find but it takes 2 to 5 months for them to make decision. I just had to answer questions today about 2 doctors, one we saw for 5 minutes an urgent care but they are having trouble getting his medical records and they want the nurse practitioner who supervised his colonoscopy to provide her medical records and that practice doesn't see a need to release the records as they have nothing to do with the cause of death. I just looped in my lawyer to the email chain so she can have the final call on what information I need to provide. I know this is a public section I think I was general enough for it to be here.

allikat- I hope the insurance gets settled asap, especially if your lawyer gets involved. When we got a parakeet, they'd always try to bite at first when a hand got near them, so we used to put on a gardening glove to literally save our skin until they got used to us. I know a small parakeet beak can't penetrate a brown glove, but would think something with insulation would work with a larger bird like a cockatiel or parrot. I had a female parakeet that never stopped biting and would latch on and draw blood so don't want to imagine what a larger beak would do to a finger. We went from around 35 this morning to 60 at 3pm when I got home (just shy of shedding a lightweight jacket) and now it's up to 71 (it's usually the other way around). Have one more day in 60s before going back to 40s and 50s and April showers time.
Val- I hope Toby's o.k.

Sorry Allikat. It has to be upsetting to deal with those issues.
Next Spring our cancer policy matures. Got it from work when I was a cop. Then when my husband started working for the same place and I added him, they set me back to ground zero. My policy was supposed to mature at 7 years. So they changed it to 25 and I didn’t know it. Then I left the municipality so Conseco let me pay for the policy each month. Waiting for them to say since I no longer worked for the township I don’t get the money back. I have read a lot of horror stories about them trying to get out of paying back the insured. I have no idea what I get back but best guess is $10-15,000. I think I get back the premiums.

Life insurance can be a big ripoff. They will do ANYTHING to keep from paying out on the policy. I hope your attorney can muscle the insurance company into paying, allikat. Labby, I'm the same way about my health insurance this year. I qualify for Medicare in November and I fully expect my current policy to deny everything it can, short of emergencies, so it can be foisted on to Medicare instead. They're already screwing me over on my prescriptions, but the price is so low (policy said $0) I've just paid out of pocket instead of spending my time calling the insurance company. It's only for 7 more months.
Toby did fine yesterday. They had to shave a small area on his hip, to find the lump, but did say he had very little tartar buildup, teeth looked good, and didn't appear to have stomtitis (expensive to treat). Vet said she'd seen several cases like what Toby has, which she equated to "kitty strep throat". Fortunately Toby is not one to hold a grudge and when I woke up this morning he was snuggled up with me. Usually he sleeps on the other side of the bed by me, but not snuggled. He and Simon are out on the balcony right now watching all the cars and birds go by. We're supposed to be sunny and 80 today.

Does anyone use or know someone who uses a Soda Stream machine (makes sparkling water at home)? If so, do you/they like it? I drink a ton of the sparkling water and it's getting expensive. Thanks!

We have a slight breeze today so I have the patio door open and the cats are enjoying the patio. I'm enjoying my new windchime which is actually chiming just a little and really sparkling in the sun. The chime is loud enough for me to hear if I have the door open, but not so loud my neighbors can hear it. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06W2K2TBY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1I need to order one of those split-screen doors that is really a curtain you hang by magnets and has a center seam so you can walk in/out without "opening" the door. It would work great for the cats

Went over to the office to pay rent and there were random white flakes fluttering down, and that's no fooling. Currently 35 degrees and only going up to around 43 today. No joke. Bah
Val- you might have to get 2 of those screen door things as they're only as wide as a regular door to cover the width of your balcony.
sunsetpainter- former coworker has a Soda Stream and she loves it. Once in awhile we'd get unused bottles or CO2 cartridges donated and she'd buy them and rave how much she loved the machine.

Gorgeous day here, mid 80s & just a light breeze, perfect weather for working in the yard.
Apparently everyone else thought that too because I had go to Lowe's for some potting soil & supplies & it was PACKED & people were buying carts full of flower & veggie plants.
I was happy to see that over 50% of the people were still wearing masks.

My outside day will be tomorrow. Today I finally started on cleaning the box hoard out of my dining room. I am showing no mercy; I want all this stuff gone as my ebay days are winding down. I think I will have maybe 28 listings left and will probably cull down more from that number.
My garbage guys are getting a break from picking up yard stuff.
Tomorrow I plan to plant more of my angel trumpet cuttings. Haven't bought any new plants yet because only annuals on the dead plant table and I don't bother with annuals. All my dead plant salvias from last year came back with a burst of flowers already.
