Whoever made the blue T-shirt got the two Gertrudes mixed up. was the nun from Germany, a Benedictine nun. Her day is November 16th. She was probably the one that really liked cats. I am sure that it was her.

It's an absolutely perfect day outside, 70 degrees (warmest St. Patrick's Day here in 10 years) and glorious sunshine. DH is coming home a bit early for his "chauffeur" friend to drive him and Butthead around to celebrate. He's dropping off a corned beef and Swiss on rye sandwich for me. I don't care for cooked cabbage or sauerkraut (and I come from German parents). A few years ago MIL actually complained about how little cooked cabbage she got with her meal (most folks complain about the corned beef portion) so I decided to get a head of cabbage and make it for her. Apparently, I stunk up the apartment and hallway and DH has forbidden me from making it again.
I decided to to go Volunteers of America since I haven't been to a thrift in at least a month. Parked way across the huge parking lot to bask in the sunshine a few more minutes. Glad I went even though I only found a few things, they were good things and actually pretty cheap. Hardly anybody else around so even better. Felt so good to just look at stuff and even found DH a nice NWT summer shirt.
Hope everybody has a great day!

Stay, try sauteed cabbage. You can use butter or olive oil. I cheat and use already shredded cabbage, either ghee (clarified butter) or olive oil, some herbs and pepper, and sautee in a pan until it's to your desired texture. It's much sweeter than boiled cabbage and doesn't stink up the kitchen as much. My last BF hated cabbage until I fixed it this way one night. We were both hooked after that.

I'd rather have standard time year round than daylight saving time year round, but I'll just be happy not to change the clocks twice a year.

I'd rather have a little more daylight towards evening, but I'd be happy to not have to fiddle around with clocks twice a year, too. I'd sure love to live close to the Bailey's Irish Cream Farm!

Decided this morning that I'm putting my big girl panties on and going back to Illinois by myself to visit grandparents, aunt and uncle for Easter. I'm staying for 7 days. BFF and I were supposed to go back together but she flaked on me so solo it is. They don't like driving to Chicago so I have to fly into one of the 3 airports that are about an hours drive from them. Sucks because Southwest isn't an option at any of them and I have 58K Southwest airline points to use. Not loving my plan but they're getting very old and I need to do it. There's a chance that BFF will be going back over the summer to help her dad with something, she'll fly Southwest into Chicago if she does. I'll go with her since it would basically be a free trip and I'd get to see them twice Off to shop around for a flight. My skills are rusty. Haven't flown since the later part of 2020 I think.

It's one of my main "comfort foods". I'll fry up a few slices of bacon and saute the cabbage in that, or sometimes just in plain butter with a little olive oil. Salt and Pepper and you're good to go. DH doesn't like it too much so there's more for me. Reheats nicely in the microwave.

I love cabbage in salads and coleslaw, but the addition of bacon in saute does sound quite appealing. I'll try to remember to grab a small head of cabbage next time I'm grocery shopping.
Just had a corned beef and Swiss on rye with a little mustard sandwich with pickle spear for dinner. Still 67 degrees and bright sunshine outside. One of my favorite Addams Family episodes is on in 5 minutes ("Morticia Meets Royalty" where Thing and Lady Fingers fall in love- see my avatar). Ahhhhh, life is good.

There's not much here for lunch that's low calorie so I just put a sliced chunk of cabbage sprayed with a little oil in the air fryer. Last night I made Albondigas Soup (weird name but it's basically meatballs, potatoes and carrots in a tomato base). Eyeballing the left overs but I'm saving them for Cliff so that I don't have to cook tonight.

Lá Fhéile Pádraig sona duit! Most of my Irish ancestors were off the boat so I grew up listening to the distinctive lilt - there's a surprising amount of it still in some of the New York City accents.
I will have a second beer tonight, but that's it for me celebrating, unless the Irish secretly ate Impossible Burgers lol.
And yes, lots of green all around (begorrah!).

Looks like gas prices are giving hybrid cars a boost in sales. I was scheduled to go to a nearby town this afternoon to test drive a truck but before we left, the sales guy called and asked to reschedule. He said they had received two car transports overnight and buyers had arrived at the dealership at 4:00 this morning and were still arriving.
They had already sold most of the hybrids plus one luxury car model by noon. There were still customers waiting to talk to a sales person and he didn't want us to have to wait around for a test drive.
I can't imagine arriving at a car dealership at 4:00 A.M. to buy a car but then I was never a Black Friday participant.

A friend of mine from college was complaining recently to a few of us over Zoom that the car dealership couldn't get the vehicle she wants to buy, the Tesla Model X. I looked it up online and found this, "MSRP: From $104,990". If I were planning to buy that, I wouldn't even say anything, but she's always been that way.

I can't see spending as much on a car as I would on a condo. A car gets me from point A to point B, sometimes with a scenic detour around point C. That's it. Heck, I just refinanced my current car to lower the payment. I'll be keeping it for awhile Although I will say one thing about Tesla - they ride like a dream. A friend in Phoenix has one.

It started out warm and muggy here today, and now it's cool and windy and sunny. I'm enjoying it as summer is looming. I'm going to Home Depot soon to get some mulch and some new plants. I lost a lot in the freeze last Feb and I didn't plant last spring because I wasn't sure what was going to come back and what wasn't. A lot didn't. I did get a new blue rose of sharon online that I planted last week that seems to be thriving.
Well DD's little pup is recovering well from pancreatitis, thank goodness. I didn't even realize dogs could get that. He's also very tiny, so easily dehydrated.
DS told me yesterday that he and DIL are planning to move about 25 miles outside of the city, they want to move by the end of May or so. Right now they are only about 5 miles down the road. It's funny, we really don't see them very often and yet I feel sad about them moving lol. She wants to be closer to her uncle and his family. She's been the manager of their apartment complex for years and they've had "free" rent, it surprised me they would want to lose that benefit, but I guess it's not really mom's business
I don't mind cabbage (but not boiled) but no thanks so the sauerkraut. DH loves both, ugh.

Finally enjoying some nice warm weather, it's 68 with intense sun. The sunroom is like a hot-house, I just opened the door from the family room to let some of that nice warm air come inside. I wanted to get up to Costco today to bring my new RX prescription from my eye doctor, I already have the new frames, but I'm too tired to think of doing the drive. It's about a half-hour ride, but through some intense traffic.
I also want to get outside and do some garden work but my body isn't cooperating with my mind. I feel like going back to bed which is very unusual for me at this time of the day. I'm usually up, out and about. But I need to get to the bank to do a deposit, so I have to get my shoes on and get out of here within the next hour. I really need to learn how to do the phone deposit thing. It seems so simple but I keep resisting.

Today is Revolution Day at Kritter City. It is a day for matching wits with the resident cats because once the word is out that dosing has begun, the Missy family heads for parts unknown. From past experience I have learned to get Lucy first, then Dori, then Dixie and, last but not least, Murphy and Daisy. The bedroom cats are fairly easy except for the feral, Lily, who gets a pass because she is by herself plus I can't get close enough to her to dose her. Done for another month. Then another trip to the post office. Not complaining but just surprised that all of a sudden, my stuff is selling.

It seems so simple but I keep resisting. It's soooooooo easy. I log into my banking app on my phone. Hit deposit. I lay the check on the desk, get the front of the check in the viewfinder, and the app takes the pic when it's clear enough. Same for the back. Then I enter the amount, tell it which account to deposit it to, hit deposit and ka-ching! Deposit is done. Much easier than driving to the bank! I HAD to go to mobile deposits, I didn't have a choice. I bank with USAA and they have very few physical locations.

We have a break in the rain here and the DH has hurried out for a bike ride. I'm going to orangetheory later so not riding (I'd ride today and go to OTF tomorrow but I'm training for a bunch of races and I do my intervals at OTF). jesmelric - managing an apartment complex can be pretty intense work - she may just be burnt out on it. Even managing the 10 unit hotel conversion I used to live in could be a real pain in the backside - my friend managed it and I lived in one of the rooms. Part of it was the 'clientele' - about half of them were problem children, the other half were mellow and quiet - the guy upstairs and I were the mellow and quiet ones, but there was always something, like plumbing problems, clogged toilets, etc., you couldn't go anywhere because someone had to be around to look after the place, etc. Big inventory clear-out going on - Posh died and there's no reviving it, they changed the search and its creating all kinds of problems. Anything not 'special' that has been hanging around for two years has to go - I want the basement back and this crap out of here - in my estimation, a hobby business should not be taking up my basement. Our car is a 1997 Subaru wagon that gets us there and gets us back - that's about all either of us require - we don't need the status symbol. I'll say, though, that Teslas have great pickup.

It's another beautiful day today that has warmed up to 72, started off bright sunshine and now clouding over, but even with a breeze there's actual warmth in the air instead of a chill. Also great is I can actually open the balcony door and not have to worry about a tree rat pushing open the screen door and wreaking havoc in here. After over 12 years, it appears the "siege" is finally over. AND, I went to my favorite GW (not the one I worked at) and the only remaining employee I know told me the"A$$hole", as was the nicest thing we could call him, no longer manages this part of the region. That alone is reason to celebrate with an adult beverage or few. Bonus is GW actually lowered prices and I found a few things worth buying. The downside is problems still exist, but at least there's been a couple major improvments.

Been following an Italian restaurant on Facebook for a while. Always great reviews. Nice menu. Reasonable prices. They open for lunch and are open all day. We got there at 4 PM. Sign says to find your own table.
We go into the room and not one person walked over and said hello. One waitress is trying to find the hex tool to unlock the door to the outside area. 3 other waitresses were walking around with her. No one waited on us for 15 minutes so we left.
We next tried to locate a seafood place in a town near there. Couldn’t find the place.
Ended up at an Italian place near us. Usually requires reservations. We got there when they opened. Had great service and a great meal. We will be back there. They just need a selection of salads or light fare for dieters. I got the stuffed salmon and he got a seafood fra Diablo with linguini.
I hate it when we go somewhere and the staff doesn’t acknowledge our presence.

As far as Teslas go…. Hard to get a fire to stop burning. Just read a story on one that burned for 5 days.
A student at work had one. Put it in self driving mode and it turned and crashed into a tree on campus. Totaled the car and damaged the tree,

Keep that Subaru as long as it runs! I have been so disappointed in mine! The new ones aren't like the old. First, I got a brand new 2020 Outback that I leased. Immediate problems within a month of having it. Entire touch screen had to be replaced, entire computer system (has a name but I don't remember), and it stranded me at the furniture store and needed a new fuel pump. I had that one for two years and it only had about 13K miles. I got an offer to trade it in and miraculously they had a new one in the 22 model year. I figured I just had a lemon bc I had heard such great things about Subarus. I got the 2022 back in October and just last week BAM, touch screen issues again. I am so frustrated and upset. You cannot control the radio or any of the air controls when the touch screen glitches. When this lease is up I am getting a Toyota Highlander or maybe a Hyundai Palisade. DH's had 3 Hyundai's in a row and we have had zero issues.

I have a 2020 Highlander limited. There are some issues between the newer iPhones and their apple play. Have to either reboot the radio or restart the car to get the radio to reset and boot up right. I love the car. Plenty of room.

I have heard good things about Hyundai too. I am looking at their new this year Santa Cruz. Problem is that they are flying out the door as soon as they arrive at the dealership. Can't keep up with the demand but I am in no rush. www.hyundaiusa.com/us/en/vehicles/santa-cruz

Well, my friend "needs" the Tesla Model X because she gave her BMW to her teenage son, and her Mercedes and Volvo XC90 are getting older.
I have a 2009 Honda and will drive it until it dies.
