Top o' the morning, everyone! I hope your clocks have all sprung forward (don't forget watches if you wear them) and adjusting well. It is nice to look outside after 7pm and still see daylight. Looking forward to St. Patrick's Day this Thursday. DH will be out the the buttheads and I'll be home enjoying a corned beef and Swiss on rye sandwich. After snow and flurries over the weekend, it looks like spring this week so more to enjoy. Will feel wonderfully weird to be outside in short sleeves. Hoping everyone has a great week and if you party on the 17th, be safe and don't drink and drive!

Happy Monday! No point in making corned been and cabbage here because I'm the only one who will eat it. I don't love corned beef anyway, think I'll improvise and make some roasted cabbage steaks in the air fryer. Had to email my accountant this weekend with a question and she mentioned that she's going to be coming down from where she is in Mexico for a week in April to do live appointments at a nearby hotel so I switched my appt. She only had 3 spots left. Now I don't have to mail my stuff to her. Feel much better about this. Pretty much have my tax stuff together and Cliff is printing two things for me at work so no need to for a library trip.

PSA....After seeing a report on TV a few days ago about getting cash for my used cell phones via Declutter, I took my former cell phone out of a drawer and had it on top of my dresser. It is 5 years old.
Today I noticed that the case looked weird. The battery had expanded so much that it blew the case partially open! It is a Samsung Galaxy 7 Edge. I called Samsung and the rep told me to take it to Best Buy. I sure didn't want to keep it in my house!
The tech there told me that the battery could have easily exploded and caught on fire! So he put it into a big bucket of sand along with dozens of iPhones that had exploded. (Interesting that all of the phones in there are iPhones).
I gave him a bag of all of my older cell phones that I had been meaning to donate somewhere, and he will donate them for me.
My new phone is only 2 years old, but I will be watching it carefully.
I did keep the cell phone that I had before the exploded one to try to remove all of the data on it, so I can cash it in. Will be watching that one, too.

Explody phones! My old one is 4 years old - I'm thinking of stripping it, installing a SIM card and music app and using it as a portable player. Now I'd better keep an eye on it! Blustery and rainy with a cold, sharp wind. I'm glad I got my longer run in yesterday - it was a bit warmer and even though it was raining it was at least lighter - more refreshing than anything. Went to the GW tag sale and found nothing on tag sale - I only found about 6 items after turning over most of the store, but, oddly, they were all red and black.

If you can remove the battery before storing it, then you should. Unfortunately, too many phones now have internal batteries that you can't (easily) remove.

I am working on my one smartphone, trying to figure out how to delete the memory since it is sealed and I can't get to the battery. It's a Galaxy S4, and I can't find the settings.
Will have to google it.

I have old cell phones too. For some reason when no longer in use, I just can't seem to throw them in the garbage. I recently even found the old pagers we used to use (showing my age). We used to call the pager and leave messages that way. If I was away from a phone (no car/cell phones at that time) a pick-up time or meeting time could be punched in from the other person and I would know by looking at the little message screen what time pick up was or what to pick up if something was needed.
When "car phones" first came out, they were like a regular handset of a portable phone with a base to set it in, and it was hard-wired into your vehicle. Then they came out with the portable "bag phones" that you could take out of your vehicle, they were in a pouch, still the same size as a portable phone handset. Then came the flip phones, I still remember one day when friend of ours was visiting and telling us about these new "little phones" that you could actually carry in your pocket. We were like, really??

Hello, hope everyone is doing well. We had some storms last night but it's a lovely day today and should be nice all week. You can really tell it's almost spring here with the trees leafing out and flowers blooming. I enjoy spring but am not looking forward to summer.
We had a nice weekend. Saturday I had a nice lunch with the other dog walking ladies and we had a great meal and a really nice visit with a lot of laughs.
Well yesterday we went to see mom and had really good news, they moved her and her new roommate is "Heaven on Earth" according to mom! She's maybe a few years younger than mom and she has some mobility issues and if she has dementia or cognitive decline it's not to a severe level and mom said they chat and laugh together. So that makes all the difference in her quality of life, and she was quite relieved.
We always donate our old cell phones, I want to say it's called Cell Phones for Soldiers? They give you a label and you just box it up and mail it to them.

I Googled how to do a factory reset and I think I did it right. But I called Verizon to make sure, and to also ask about the unlocked thing.
So I am good to go and will list it now since it is in perfect shape. And I want it out of my house. I always worried about having a back-up cell in case mine goes bad. But my current one is now 2 years old and thus paid for. So I could just buy a new one at Comcast Xfinity which is less than half the price of Verizon's plan.

Yes, you can donate your old phone and some places have electronic recycling - we just go down to city hall and dump stuff in there. The last old phone I had I sold on eBay.

I am wondering about the chargers, since I kept those. Wonder if the phones are reused that they would need the chargers too? Will have to ask when I am in Best Buy next time.
Unless I list them...

It's expected to pass in the House.
But it won't go into effect until 2023 to give all the IT people time to rewrite all the computer codes that are time based.

They're already whining on the Chicago news programs about how it won't get light until 8:00 in the winter. Um, last I heard, generally everyone has some sort of light bulbs in their house, and it's no different driving TO work in the dark as it is driving HOME FROM work in the dark. The drivers around here are a bunch of idiots no matter what time of day it is.

Arizona won't be happy. It's so damn hot there in the summer that most folks I know prefer to have that extra hour in the morning when it's cooler. That's part of why the state voted years ago to not do Daylight Savings.

That's part of why the state voted years ago to not do Daylight Savings. I'm with the Arizonaians. It's so hot here in the summer I sure will miss that hour of lightness. I guess I will be going out with Janey in the dark I understand most people prefer the hour in the evening, but we are so early to bed and early to rise, this will definitely take a LOT of getting used to.
Well the weather is gorgeous right now and the change won't happen till next year so I guess I'll just enjoy what we have now. Yard mowing season will be back in force very soon. I mowed weekend before last but it was mostly weeds lol. I don't know why my yard is so prone to clover! I hate it so much.
Youngest DD's little pup got sick with a bout of pancreatitis and he seems to be doing better but any prayers are appreciated. Oldest DD's pup with lymphoma is actually hanging in there even though they stopped chemo a few months ago. Her arthritis is not great, she's almost 15. They are on a vacation in Mexico right now, it cost more to drive than it would to fly with gas prices the way they are but they wanted the little pup to enjoy the warm weather.

It'll get light here at 9:00 a.m. in the winter - people here wanted regular daylight time because of that. Apparently, darkness during morning commute is related to a rise in the accident rate, a big reason for NOT going with DST. People are seduced by that extra hour of light in the evening, but it's opposite of what really makes sense. An extra hour of light in the evening in the winter makes no difference, either, since it'll still get dark at 5:00 when people are on the road.
Oh well, I'm just glad to not have to deal with the clock change.

I'm surprised Mexico didn't require the dog be quarantined, jesmelric. No pet quarantine going into Mexico. Do dogs need to quarantine when entering Mexico?
Effective 12/16/2019: A health certificate for dogs and cats is no longer needed to enter Mexico. Dogs and cats may be taken to the border without health certificate documentation, they will be inspected by SENASICA upon arrival.

They don't need to be quarantined going into Great Britain, either, at least that I last heard. A lot of race are still virtual - I finally ran the "Love Your Robot Day" 5K - they have the cutest medal!

I googled St Gertrude. Sad story. Regarding the cats though.... aleteia.org/2020/07/29/why-is-st-gertrude-the-patron-saint-of-cats/While St. Gertrude of Nivelles is known as the patron saint of cats, this title was given to her not because she loved cats, but on account of her ability to expel mice.
St. Gertrude was a Benedictine nun during the 7th century and was known for her deep piety. She founded a monastery in Belgium and died at 31 years old.
There exist no traceable stories that connect her to cats or even mice during her life, but during the Middle Ages she became a favorite saint to invoke against mice and rats.
With this in mind, in recent years St. Gertrude became associated with cats, since cats are notorious for their ability to keep the population of mice and rats down in an area. It is now common to see religious images and icons of St. Gertrude with cats, making her the unofficial “cat-lady” of the Catholic Church.

Whoever made the blue T-shirt got the two Gertrudes mixed up. St Gertrude the Great was the nun from Germany, a Benedictine nun. Her day is November 16th.

Top o' the morning to you all on this St Patricks Day, and a tip of my hat to St Gertrude as well! My family came from Ireland generations ago so I celebrate with corned beef & cabbage, potatoes in some form, and a huge loaf of Irish soda bread. After dinner I'll take a break from watching murder mysteries to watch either The Secret of Roan Innish OR Darby o'Gill and the little peoiple.
Hope everyone sees lots of green today, in one way or the other :-)
