I have been helping with the screening of kittens adoption applications from Seattle. I talked to a lady today that is like my new best friend. I was telling her that applications from the Seattle area are very impressive with all the detailed information included. She said that applying for a young kitten in Seattle is an Olympic event because there are not that many ever available so you have to give it your best shot to make a good impression in hopes of a callback. Not only were her application and her vet references impressive, her offer to pay the adoption fee plus 1/2 of the passenger airline ticket if we could bring the kitten next week pretty much sealed the deal as we can also take another kitten there at the same time that would have had to wait. She won the gold medal in this round of the Kitten Adoption Olympics. So, Pumpkin, one of the trailer park kittens, will be flying to his new home in Seattle next Wednesday. Another of that litter, Peach, will be going to Boston as soon as her new parents fly here to get her. The wife wants to come soon because she usually works out of town and she wants to be there when Peach comes home. Pecan was adopted here in San Antonio and Sweetie will be picked up by her new mom this weekend. That just leaves Twila who is still in a cage in my den.

She is has improved a lot from when she first came. I am going to expand her horizons to one of the bathrooms this weekend and see how that goes. If it goes well, the lady who adopted Pecan said she would work with her to ensure that Twila will adjust to other people besides me. We don't want another Murphy.

We almost ended up with a Golden Retriever pup yesterday. We are trying to wait two years until we add anymore pups. This one is a rescue. The BYB puppy mill breeder dropped the poor pup off to be euthanized because it had some type of accident and had to have his eye removed.
Fortunately someone else stepped in while I waited to put in for him. If it falls through I told them I was interested.

I didn't realize how much things have changed until I started watching Doogie Howser MD on Peacock. I vaguely recalled liking it back when it originally aired. I'm into season 1, episode 5 and probably won't watch anymore of it. In the first 2 episodes, older women made sexual advances to Doogie, which at the time were supposed to be funny. Remember, he was a 16 year old prodigy who'd graduated medical school. Both episodes were creepy. Then there is his "best friend" and next-door neighbor, who is an annoying, oversexed 16 year old. I suppose he probably added some comic relief in the 80s but now comes across as an early-stage sexual predator. I'm watching Murder She Wrote too, and surprised at how many episodes show a secretary or assistant staff female having her butt or back touched by a male character. I know it was common back then, but you really don't realize how common - or how demeaning - it was until you catch it on reruns of 80's shows. Wow. I'm glad none of this is acceptable behaviour nowadays.

Mine is on my roof but 99% of the units in my little neighborhood are on the ground when you look on google images. There must not have been enough room in my yard for a ground unit. Wish it was on the ground though. For his house, a roof unit makes the most sense. There’s a reason but I don’t remember what it is. Everyone he talked to about it was 100% in agreeance so it’s apparently the right move for him.

holy crap val. Try watching all in family or even some of the old game shows from the 70’s and 80’s. So many sexual innuendos towards women from the game show hosts. It’s disturbing. I some times watch 80’s comedy shows on tv land. We really have come a long way.

I sometimes watch 80’s comedy shows on tv land. We really have come a long way. No kidding! Some of the shows aren't as bad as others, thank goodness. What gets me is how that kind of behavior was "acceptable" back then. I'm glad there's more awareness and pushback on it now. Nice sunny day on tap today. I have several curbside pickups to do, plus a return to Kohls. It will be nice to get out of the apartment for awhile

I always feel so bad for those women, that had to be uncomfortable and they're on camera. Just grin and bear it. Yuck. So glad that stuff doesn't go on today or more like I'm glad that it is 100% not acceptable to the vast majority of people. I remember my step dad telling me once that I looked "hot", my mom laughed. I did not. It was many years ago and I still haven't forgotten. Maybe some would have found it acceptable but I didn't like him from the moment I met him and he always gave me more reasons to not like him.
Anyhoo... a gorgeous 79 degree day here today and tomorrow too. Just took a drive to Scottsdale. Hit 3 Goodwill's and one Saver's. Only found two things. Disappointing when you invest the time and it's a flop.

I've forgotten what 79 degrees feels like. Currently 18 degrees but at least the sun is brightly shining, the sky is blue with a few white clouds. It really gets depressing when it's cold, overcast, naked trees, snow covered practically everything and white sky. Almost like looking outside to a black & white movie. However, supposed to go back up around 50s the next few days before dipping back in 30s so tomorrow will probably be a day to get out and about. Might as well let the warmer temps and sunshine melt off the snow/ice on and around my Cube.
I was planning future thrift trips and found out ValueWorld closed permanently. Granted, it was pretty hit or miss, but I found better stuff there (and cheaper) than the Goodwill in plaza next to it. That doesn't leave us with a lot of thrifts other than GWs around here, and I have my reasons to rarely frequent those.

I'm one of these odd people who love cold, overcast and naked trees against a white sky. I guess I'm perma-adapted to our climate here. It's drizzling right now.
Something for the weekend - incredible cover of When the Levee Breaks (feat. John Paul Jones) by musicians from around the world:

We had a big snow squall here. I was just leaving a restaurant. Luckily the roads remained ok but the wind was really bad. As quick as it came, it left and the snow melted.

Susan Tedeschi is one of my favorite singers. Derek Trucks is her husband now & an amazing guitarist. The Maori singer was a standout for me & I loved Sami Norwegian, I believe, throat singer. The 2 drummers in Topanga CA were cool too. What a fun video. I'm surprised he didn't ask Robert to take part, as indigenous music has been a life-long interest for him.

Simon was getting all the photo attention lately so I thought it was time to snap a cute pic of Trixie. She apparently agreed with me as she didn't run off and actually stayed posed while I took the pic What a beautiful chonky gal she is

Yeah, she's a butterball alright. She was a petite kitty, not all that big until Simon got here, and then the stress eating started. She has a vet visit next month, and I plan to talk to the vet about putting Trixie on a diet.

I ended up doing nothing today I might rouse myself enough to fix dinner. Or I may just fix the prepared meal in the fridge. LOL! Looks like 2 major winter storms are hitting the country this upcoming week, with the second store being a bit stronger and larger.

Been pretty productive. Got 10 listings done and some inventory organized/put away along also got my 10K steps in. Plan is to do some cleaning up around here in preparation for the a/c guys that will be here Tuesday.
Cliff needs to take a ride into Phoenix and offered up a few GW stops. Hopefully my luck will be better than it was this morning.

Cleared all the dead stuff from my front yard this afternoon. The back yard is done and all I have left to do is the side yard and weed control in the front. Way ahead of schedule in preparing my yards for spring.
Need to see about getting some trees cut down in the back before they start getting leaves again.

zoesam - I think Robert Plant would have been a tad too dominant as his voice is so indelibly fixed to that particular version of the song. The Norwegian chanter and Maori singer took it from incredible to stratospheric, but everyone was SO good. Music is a great uniter - even in all the violence of 2019/2020, if some good music was playing somewhere in the demonstrations, everyone would start boogying around to the same beat, didn't matter what 'side' they were on.

Spot on. I would love to see that Maori singer doing her own thing in rock. She reminded me of Janis! She was SO powerful. I'm also crazy about Susan Tedeschi's voice, always have been. I'm glad none of this is acceptable behaviour nowadays. In the 80s my dad used me as "bait" to get Department of Defense contracts, he was a subcontractor. I was about 20yo and he would send me to meetings "dressed to get the contract". There are so many dirty dogs in the government that it worked almost every time. They thought that I would be heading the contract and be in DC all the time, like they had a shot, lol. At the time I was blonde and busty, competing in beauty pageants and modeling. I was part of the problem of how women were looked at and treated, not realizing I was doing anything wrong so to speak. I was stupid, young and naive. I look back and think that the h*ll was my dad thinking.

Way ahead of schedule in preparing my yards for spring. Need to see about getting some trees cut down in the back before they start getting leaves again. I need to clear all the dead stuff from my yard, too. It looks horrible. I just can't seem to get a really nice Saturday to talk myself into it yet lol. Hopefully next Saturday. I also really need to mow as the clover is getting out of hand, which reminds me I need to weed and feed as well.
DH and I planned to go to Goodwill today but I got an email from VV they are having 1/2 off President's day sale Sat thru Mon for VIP's (you sign up for the emails) so we are going there. I know it will be more crowded than I care for, so we are getting there as soon as they open and masking up. Hoping to make quick work of it and get out asap.

I think this is the earliest that I have been done with cutting back the frozen stuff. I can't stand looking at it when it is all brown and crunchy. I plan my assault on the days before our twice a week garbage pickup so my trash cans are out in the alley waiting for them. I did get a jump start yesterday because it was so nice and sunny outside so the trash cans appeared in the alley a day early.
Now the weeds are next on the hit list but it looks like maybe rain this week so I will lie in wait until it has passed. If I had to wait until a Saturday to get the dead stuff done, I wouldn't be through until April.

Partly cloudy and low 70's today. I bet if I drive by her house, I'll see Kritter out in the yard today. Since I didn't run my errands yesterday, I guess I should today. After my second cup of coffee, I think. I also need to move the packed-up Christmas decorations to the storage unit. I've been putting that off because I really don't want to lug the two heavy totes down the stairs. Or, I could possibly make room in the closet for the totes and move lighter stuff to the storage unit. Hmmnnn. That might be doable. I'm so lazy

This morning my dog wanted out about 8 am. I get up and open her dog door and then I laid back down because I was not up for the day. A few minutes later I hear DH yelling. My previous little angel dog decided it would be a wonderful idea to use the bathroom and ROLL IN IT. Why? Oh heavens why?? She is almost 5 and has never done this. The only thing I can think of is it is some sort of "territory marking" because we got new neighbors who moved in yesterday and they have two new dogs. The dogs, however, were not barking or running at her or anything. We had to immediately get her into the bathtub. Ugh! But I love her!
I managed to get part of my living room carpet shampooed today also - I do it in sections to ensure it gets fully dry. Excited to finally get my living room back. I did some rearranging for the Christmas tree and while the tree has been down for quite a while we hadn't moved the furniture back yet.

allikat - we were indoctrinated - your dad probably didn't think anything of it and didn't even realise what he was playing in to. There are a lot of people who STILL whine about women actually being respected like actual human beings. I was the opposite - I was a homely kid and got dumped on for that. Homely boys didn't have it as bad as homely girls because they had their male entitlement working in their favour (if they were white), but they still got some dumping. When the punk movement came in, we all found a home lol. pyrexandpearls - your pup wanted to make SURE those new dogs in town knew what was what! Sometimes pets are like having two year olds around the house lol. We used to have to break up fights between our tuxedo cat and anyone who bothered her because she was so territorial.
