Good morning, everyone! Thankfully last week's storm is over, the sun has been out the last 3 days which is nice even though it's still too cold to start melting and this week's possible snow isn't supposed to amount to much. I will be sooooooo glad when this winter is over. You'd think someone who has lived here her entire life would be used to it, but the older I get, the more I hate it. Give me a beach, soft sand and palm trees any day. Hope everyone has a great day! Reminder: next Monday is Valentine's Day so don't forget to get your sweetie something, and that includes furry sweeties!

Hoping this week brings better things😃.
I just thought I would add a funny. We always think about women discussing clothing. I started following a few Filson groups on Facebook and it is a riot seeing men discussing their favorite Filson gear, what Filson clothing they are wearing and assembling collages of outfits. I can’t figure out if I could wear any Filson. Bought a jacket and a vest but neither fit right.

Beautiful sunny day outside. We'll be around 59 today, then low 60s for the next week with mostly sunny forecast. Not bad. I discovered I'm out of green chiles (gasp-oh the horror!) so I guess I'll be heading to the grocery store. I didn't shop over the weekend so it's not like I'm making an extra trip just for green chiles

And even if you were, that would be OK. I am famous for going to HEB just to check out if they made any rotisserie turkey breasts for Kenya even though I still have some in the freezer.
Its a social experience for me plus I never know what I am going to see there that I had no idea that I wanted to buy. No list buyer here; total impulse purchasing.

I finally finished clearing off the Cube and though I'm still not crazy about Walmart, they supposedly had everything I wanted at the best prices so jotted down aisle numbers and off I went. Bright sunshine, 36 degrees and I know it brings shivers to those in warmer climate, it actually felt warm. Not only got what was on my list, but even though the refrigerated dough section was practically empty, there were 5 rolls of pizza dough on the bottom shelf so I grabbed 2 because that's the first time I've seen any since I started looking over a month ago.
Came home to find UPS left my package outside next to the entrance door on wet concrete. Bottom of the box was soaked and anybody could have walked or driven by and helped themselves so I'm not happy about that. At least I finally got it and contents are dry and undamaged so glad that's over with.
So happy to see sunshine, enjoy temps in 30s while those last and since I haven't been anywhere since last Tuesday, it felt super great to be able to drive around again. Hate that gas prices went up yet again, but at half a tank, need to fill up and might even treat myself to a thrift store since Covid cases are a lot lower (my county went from highest to one of the lowest in the state) plus I haven't been to a thrift in probably 2 months.

I was doing that until I realized how much I was spending with all those trips One of my credit cards gives 2% back on groceries, so now that I use it for groceries I can see monthly just how much I was spending. YIKES! I still have impulse* buys, but they're just once a week now and not every 2-3 days * For those without a HEB, HEB is THE WORST for having cool stuff and really yummy looking food that you just can't resist. Worst store ever for impulse buyers. Not that it made me shop elsewhere LOL. Or stop buying impulsively. 2% cashback on those impulse items adds up

HEB is the BEST store ever for impulse shoppers. If you leave anywhere close to emptyhanded then you are not really in the zone. Not boring same stuff all the time.
I used to do some grocery shopping at the Super Walmart but there is no fun there. Haven't been to Walmart in months for anything in the grocery deparment.

Well we made it to 51 yesterday and we are supposed to make it to the low 60s today. It's funny how everything is so relative. In the middle of summer when it's highs in the upper 90s and lows in the low 80s and HIGH humidity 50s would feel so cold! And after the cold of the prior few days 51 felt practically warm. Really the hardest part of the cold is walking Janey in the mornings. She relies on a morning walk and I hate to let her down. I think I feel the cold more as I get older, too. Then again I really feel the heat when I'm having a hot flash
We are supposed to hit 70 Saturday, I might talk myself into doing some yard work. My elephant ears and wedelia keeled over in the cold and need to be cut back. And we have a ball moss problem here, it's all over everyone's trees that will support it, including the crepe myrtles (of which I have two) and the cedar tree so it's all over part of the yard and needs to be raked. It will be a perfect excuse to spend some time outside on a lovely day. I might even mow, too, just to get the leaves.
DS's birthday is tomorrow, I can't believe he'll be 38 We are having them over Thursday on his day off, DH is grilling steaks. DS wanted cinnamon roll monkey bread, and I didn't think I was going to be able to find the rolls, the dough section is always so empty. DH and I went to pick up a few things Friday, and lo and behold, they had cinnamon rolls, and they were Pillsbury and not store brand. Score! Lol.

staytuned - It was nice of them to deliver on Sunday rather than the Wednesday it was scheduled to be here, but Fed-Ex left DH's $4000 workstation computer tower just flop on our front porch without even ringing the doorbell - they were supposed to get a signature and didn't even do that! I wouldn't have even seen it if I hadn't glimpsed something through the sidelight, opened the door, and there it was.

I think you have me confused with Val, who was supposed to get FedEx delivery yesterday (Sunday). UPS is closed on Sunday for regular delivery so I had to wait until today (Monday) to get my package.
That's insane to not get a signature for that $4000 tower.
It really pisses me off how wages for a lot of places have gone up, yet service has gotten worse.

I've received the random UPS delivery on a Sunday. Not very often, but it has happened. Maybe it's just during the holidays? NONE of the delivery people here knock on the door. I have to rely on the cats letting me know someone is outside making noise. Grocery shopping is done. Even with my (many!) impulse buys, I still managed to stay under budget. I even took the lazy route and paid a bit more per lb for the already cut-up beef stew meat. There was a lot in my cart I didn't really need, but they were sampling the HEB cheese balls and the walnut dessert cheese ball on vanilla pita chips was just too irresistible. I'm making crockpot beef stew tomorrow which should last several days, so not having to buy other stuff for meals offset the indulgence buys. That's my story and I'm sticking to it

Those were in the closeout basket at my store for $1.00 each. I see more things in those closeout baskets that I have never seen on the store shelves.
Cat food aisle is still barren. I don't think Fancy Feast is ever coming back. Cereal aisle looks depleted too.

Ever since Covid started, my shopping habits have changed dramatically. I now write down what I need to get and add sale items and just get what I need, checkout and leave. IGA's meat markdowns and clearance at the end of that aisle are my impulse buys if I find anything. Walmart is strictly go down specific aisles and only buy what's on the list. I do not want to hang around any store any longer than necessary. Since I haven't needed anything other than groceries, and weather being too cold and snowy, I haven't been to any thrift since early December.

Grocery shopping is my main "get out of the apartment" activity so I don't mind taking a little bit of time to shop. I use 4 layer masks and add a filter, plus keep my distance from everyone. I did need some extra items that only Sprouts carries, so I opted to use instacart for that today. The order should be delivered in about an hour. The only other times I shop indoors is when I have returns to take to Kohls or Macys. Then it's go in, make the return, and get out. Which is easy to do, the two stores closest to me appear to be clearance and returns stores and in-store inventory is pathetic and picked over. So I'm not really motivated to go shop. Since COVID, I try to get as much as possible at HEB, then go every other month to Trader Joes for the few staples I get there. Whole Foods is maybe once a month, and it's either delivery or pickup curbside.

Sunny today and we're supposed to hit a high of 63. It's chilly at night though, so I felt justified in making a big crockpot of beef stew today. I probably should have made it last week when it really was cold, but I didn't see the recipe until yesterday. Oops! It will still taste good. I took Toby's big cat carrier out of the laundry room yesterday and set it up so the kitties could sleep or play in it. Both Toby and Simon were in and out of it yesterday. Toby has a vet appointment tomorrow and I didn't want him freaking out when the carrier came out. I've been doing it this way for years with multiple cats and it seems to work pretty well. They're used to the carrier being out and are ignoring it by the time I have to stuff them in it I have a standard small one for Trixie, but Toby is big so he needed a much larger carrier. This opens on both sides and the vets love it: www.wayfair.com/pet/pdp/pet-gear-view-360-pet-carrier-pgi10033.html

Val, that link keeps wanting me to sign up on the main page. I can google for pics of the carrier and still get a popup wanting my email address if I click on those pages. That is pretty neat.
It only got up to about 30 today and sunny start turned to partially cloudy, but no precipitation solid, wet or in between was nice. I went to Volunteers of America, which is a huge store. The parking lot had a lot of cars so I was worried it was packed, but there weren't many shoppers and it was great everyone respected everyone else's space. Looks like I didn't miss anything except overall prices gone up. I wound up finding 3 tops (2 feels like nwot tees and full zip lightly insulated running jacket in great shape) at 1/2 off color and spent total including tax a whopping $5.91. Fortunately, there's still someone pricing stuff low because the majority is overpriced for age and especially condition. It really felt good to get out for a non-essential shopping trip again.

We are getting a taste of spring the next few days. I got out walking after the black ice melted.
Brother - touch and go. His white count went up. Scan now shows necrosis of pancreas so we are waiting to see what their plan is. He is back on antibiotics. He is still mentally back with us and I just called him.

I love cream cheese! When I was a kid my mom would have to remind me you can't just eat 1/3 of a block of cream cheese as a snack! Forget the crackers, I just wanted the cream cheese.

(((Labby's Bro)))
I also could eat a whole block of cream cheese and the no-fat is indeed evil.
Now I want beef stew.
This no-folic acid diet is killing me. My chemo makes a normal diet kill my feet and hands, so I can only eat foods with low to moderate Folic Acid or Folate. I had a couple of days a week for the last 2 weeks when my eyes were so horribly dry. I was even using nighttime eye gel during the day. Finally realized it was because I was eating more than 2 servings of bread a day.

Cream cheese is one of those things that I will only buy the “full strength” and name brand. I definitely can tell the difference between Philadelphia and store brand.

I buy either the goat cheese variety or Neufchatel - I've done the non-fat cream cheese and it's OK. I make my own sour cream by whipping low fat cottage cheese in the blender and drizzling in lemon juice.
Our 'February break' turned out to be one day, then it went back to drizzling. Oh well - I don't care but the DH was a bit bummed - he had wanted the full week.

I use Restasis morning and evening, and Systane through the day. This chemo really dries me out, so I have to drink tons of water. Before I realized how bad Folic Acid was for me, my eyelids would be stuck together in the morning.

Denise, my eyes are like that because of the two different glaucoma drops I use. The first thing I do when I wake up, before I get out of bed, is put in lubricating eye drops.
How do you like Restasis? It's out of my price range with my insurance, so I try other things.
