It definitely did turn her driveway into a skating rink. She lives at the top of a hill, which could be a real problem, but thankfully her driveway is surrounded by berms so no one would go sliding down the hill! She's counting the days until they are predicting a couple of days that stay above freezing even over night. I am going back up next weekend so hopefully it will be gone by then, or at least not a huge mess.

Had to pick up my bp med at Walgreens this morning. I had a few errands to run and thought I'd finish up at WM market that is on the same corner. Walgreens used to open at 9 but due to staffing shortages it's now 10. Leave WM at 9:30 and start thinking about what I could do until it got closer to 10 but then I look over at the WG drive through and there were already two cars in line.... it was a few minutes after 9:30 so I went and got in line, after a few minutes there were more more cars in line. Crazy.

It's supposed to go into the 30s and even low 40s next week so with higher temps and possible rain, things will be melting until what's left freezes at night.
I remember when it snowed, neighbors would clear out driveways for older folks and kids would go door to door offering to shovel to earn some money. Sadly, those days are pretty much gone.
somany, can your sister afford to hire someone to plow her driveway or check around to see if a neighbor or kids nearby would do it cheap?

I used to have a wonderful golden retriever, Brandy. When we would go for our daily walks, he would just sit down and would not move until I rubbed and patted his head. He did that several times as we circled the field.

We are in line for “no idea how much” on Saturday. Hubby has training so I will have to man the snowblower.
My dad used to shovel two tracks down the drive for his tires. My brothers and I got together and bought him a snowblower many years ago. I gave it to my brother when my dad died.

Nowadays, around here as soon as snow is predicted, the local yahoos with plows start advertising on our local FB page "Plow your drive...starting at $25 and up!"
DH knows a few elderly folks in town that he'll go and plow their drives for free. One guy gives us eggs, another gives us honey from his hives. He's also driven around town and if he sees someone struggling with shoveling, he'll ask if they need help. Doesn't charge anything, but will take something for gas money if offered.

Okay, this is weird. I just had my chemo pills delivered by UPS. It is only 3 degrees out! But the pills came in a styro container with ice packs. They have come that way before in the hot summer months. But it is freezing today. Not complaining though, since I love the styro containers for shipping my glass stuff. And they also put a lot of bubble wrap around the pills. And I am going to list the freezer packs.
So funny to receive the little bottle of pills in a 13" high container.

We are actually 61 degrees right now! I couldn't resist and hung out my laundry today lol. We had a nice visit with mom yesterday. I gave her the 2 pair of pants I found at the thrift. She said she didn't know what happened to the pair of jeans she was wearing last week. In talking to her about how some of the other residents who aren't in their right minds might be taking her stuff unknowingly she wasn't really getting it. Like she was saying Why would they want my stuff, it wouldn't even fit them? And we said well their minds are working right, but she wasn't making the connection. So my sister and I think she might actually be part of the problem, maybe she's doing something with her own stuff? My sister is supposed to call the administrator and talk to her about it. She tends to procrastinate so we'll see.
Thanks for the suggestions for my cold hand(s). I bought this from ebay, it's just like the one DH got me years ago but it's a different color: I'm thinking I'm also going to get some fingerless gloves, too. Between the two I should definitely stay warm
Does anyone else have the new ebay listing page? I like that I can remove backgrounds, but I think the IS are very clunky and it's a big pain to sell similar.

Or perhaps they're not really disappearing at all. I find that as my parents are getting older & more confused, my sister & I are constantly discussing if things really happened at all, if they happened how the parents are perceiving it, if they completely misheard what the dr actually said b/c of hearing loss, if they misinterpreted what the dr said, etc. etc. etc. I have actually witness my mom understand the complete opposite of what the dr said due to simple hearing loss. When you add confusion to the mix, anything goes. At least you are there to witness it. We are trying to figure out these things with 3 different states involved.

I am trying it but so far not terribly thrilled with it. It says you can switch back, but I will persevere for another couple of days to see if it gets any better.

I'm sorry it's that bad with your sister, somany. I don't understand why she uses a P.O. box instead of having mail delivered to her residence? I hope with things happening like the late fee affecting her credit might be a wake up call she needs to help herself. Regardless how many things need to be cleared out, your sister needs to be part of the process instead of just wanting someone to do all the work for her while she sits back and does nothing. And there are plenty of houses that are sold "as is" and "handyman special" that are turned into really nice residences.

We're getting that big nor'easter storm here but it wasn't supposed to start until later tonight with snow all night continuing into Saturday morning. Instead, it started around 10AM, coming down steady now. The rear deck is already covered with an inch or so of snow. I was planning on going out this morning to run some errands but not going out in this. When the snow is just starting it's always slick here because the town plows haven't been around yet to plow or sand. Hoping that it will let up until later tonight as predicted.
Got emails from our cable/internet and our electric company warning us of potential outages and giving their hints on how to cope, etc. We even got an email from our small local grocery store telling us that they will be open throughout the day, if any changes they will let us know ahead of time on early closing. I can deal with any snow accumulation, it's the power outage that worries me. Going to be sure all rechargeable items are ready, laundry done, floors vacuumed, water jugs filled, etc. No power here means no running water.
I was hoping we would get through Jan/February without another storm but I guess not.

It's been snowing all morning here and our "inch" prediction sure looks like a lot more, especially from what the plow left behind the vehicles. DH said MIL's driveway is a skating rink. We're supposed to get 3 days in upper 30s/low 40s and sunshine so hopeful to be able to do laundry and be able to take a snow shovel and properly clear off MIL's driveway. Wed/Thur will be bad because it's supposed to rain which will freeze later so also hoping power stays on.
I hope your power stays on, Desire, and the storm's not bad. I'm with you about winter storms. Around here, we usually get a major storm around mid-March so trying not to get depressed with 2 more months of this. I only hope Buckeye Chuck predicts an early spring and it comes true.

somany, I agree with Frakin. It does sound like your sister is depressed. I saw it in my mom. My mom had gotten to where she'd only go out of the house to grocery shop, and she'd do that almost daily just to have someone to talk to. She'd buy stuff she didn't even need every trip (part of that though was her hoarder issue). She refused to go to any of the events at the senior center near her, and wouldn't go out with friends either. We FINALLY got her to move into a senior facility. She pouted for about 2 weeks, then started meeting people, including some she went to school with, and in about a month she was back to being her former social butterfly, belle of the ball self. The regular, dependable social interaction is really critical for seniors. Moving to a "community" environment doesn't necessarily mean giving up one's independence. Use everything you can to get her somewhere beneficial. You may have to enlist the help of others - her doctor, pastor, best friend, anyone who's advice she respects. My mom was a dyed in the wool Southern belle and it took a good six months for my cousin and I to figure out that any advice we gave her had to be given to her by a male, and one whose opinion she valued. Her doc was more than willing to help as well. We finally got her to "try out" the senior facility by enlisting the help of the rehab center she went to. I took a video of the hoarder status and gave it to the rehab social worker, and they determined (with our suggestion) that my mom not be allowed to return home until some safety renovations could be completed. We then told her we would get bids for her and she could review them, but it would take time to do that and also to get the work done (one bathroom needed to be completely remodeled, not just safety bars installed). She didn't want to stay in the rehab facility on her dime, and the sales lady at the senior facility told my mom she could cancel her lease with either 30 or 60 days notice (I forget which). That did the trick. We knew if we could just get her in there, she would end up liking it. She did I just wish she'd have moved there sooner. Folks from that generation (born in the 1920s-30s) are too damned stubborn.

When you add confusion to the mix, anything goes. At least you are there to witness it. We are trying to figure out these things with 3 different states involved. You know I think you might be right on this. We haven't seen mom's room because of Covid but she has told us she has this nightstand type of thing with two drawers and that's where she keeps all her clothes. She said there's a closet but she doesn't have enough clothes to bother with it. Maybe when she was in isolation someone hung her clothes in the closet and she didn't even think to look? Or she herself did something like that and then forgot? It's so hard to say. That's why I suggested to my sister she call and see if someone can go look and see why she only has 1 pair of pants left. My sister has the POA and is handling things and to avoid conflict with her I try not to nag, remind, etc. Next time we chat on the phone I'll casually say something like Were you able to get ahold of anyone at the nursing home to see if they could look for mom's clothes? And then we'll see.
It's chilly here today, but sunny and in the 50s and that's definitely way nicer than you guys getting snow, for sure. I feel bad for those that are expecting that big snow storm. With that big ice storm here last year I'm hoping we are good for a while!
I need to do some dusting this weekend, ugh. I don't know why that's my most hated chore but I have such a hard time talking myself into it. Then right after you dust, it's already building right back up again

On the flip side, when it's hot and humid and I'm whining how I'm wilting and prefer to stay inside with the a/c on, you in TX and AZ and down South would be looking at me like, "Meh? You think this is hot?" LOL I don't mind the cold. It's a lot easier, to me, to add layers to stay warm vs. there's only so much you can take off to be legal and still be sweating in the heat and humidity. But I'd sure like to move South and learn to climatize in reverse and get used to it.

They aren't 700 count Egyptian cotton sheets, but they aren't cheap crap either. Moderate price, nice quality IMO. They fit up to 17" mattress. I tend to sleep hot, and these sleep average to cool IMO. I really like mine. You have to check regularly at Kohls though for a good price. If you like prints, check out the kids Big One sets too, they have some cute prints that don't necessarily look like kids.

I don't like layers; too much bundling up for me. One thing on the top and one thing on the bottom. I don't even have a coat or gloves or socks. Just a couple of denim jackets that have been in the back of my closet for years.
I watch the weather forecast and plan my days in/out according to what the temperature will be.
