Good morning, everyone! I will be so glad when winter is over. We got at least 6" of snow yesterday and supposed to get 1-3" more today, which who knows how much we'll actually get. The good news is it's the light, fluffy stuff that's a lot easier to brush off and shovel. It's also nice to see a minute or 2 added to sunset that's already after 5:30pm. I hope everybody has an awesome day in every way.

We're having the windows replaced in the living room and library - all downstairs (we had the upstairs re-windowed, so to speak, a couple of years ago). They're down there sawing and clunking around - the same local company that does windows for most people in the area and did our last set. Fortunately, they'll have the job done in a day. I couldn't figure out what all the clunking and water spraying was in the hall bath next to my study and it was the DH madly cleaning it in case the workers needed to use the bathroom lol. We spent yesterday evening hauling couches, giant stereo speakers and the like around to get everything out of the way. The danged sofa bed is horrible - we're both of us strong but not particularly big, and I swear the thing was out to get us. The new windows should cut our heating bill further. Due to our moderate regional climate and a traditional tendency not to heat houses that much, a lot of homes have those old single-pane windows and we'll be glad to get rid of these.
The usual foggy, damp day here.

Second day in a row digging out. Should be the last of the white stuff for a while (unless we get the lake effect later today). But the deep freeze is coming. Supposed to get below zero for the next few nights. Need to play with the dogs today because it will be just too cold for them until later this week.

I just can't imagine that at all. Last year when we had the super freeze here, it did not get anywhere near that cold and I was beside myself even then. I do not deal well with cold at all.

I can handle the cold. Have lived here all my life and it's just a normal part of winter. We keep our house around 65° all winter and we're comfortable with that. But I absolutely cannot deal with high temps and humidity in the summer anymore.

For the next ten days or so we're supposed be between 67 and 74 degrees. We actually had some clouds, drizzle and cooler temps on Friday and Saturday that we were not expecting.

I just can’t get warm in the house this week. Doesn’t help that we have the dog door. We shut that at night but otherwise it is open.
Work has been a pain lately. Usually Sundays are a day of relaxation for us. Can’t wait for Covid to go way down.

LOL That is the absolute low temperature that my thermostat is down to at night. During the day it is now set at 74 and I am dressed in fleece pants and a sweatshirt and still feel chilly.
High temps and humidity don't bother me at all.

Then I concede and put socks and boots on!

We keep our house at 67 during the day and 55 at night. I wear two pair of socks for my 'slippers' - compression quarter socks and then a big thick pair over that. We love our socks here lol.

We have been chilly here, highs in the 50s and yesterday it was quite rainy. We do need it though. I keep my house at 63 when it's cold outside, and wear a sweater and warm socks. DH complains but I am still having hot flashes and it's not pleasant when the heater is on and I have one. Beet face for sure. I have been shopping for a hand warmer for my mouse hand today. It gets very cold. The one DH gave me years ago finally crapped out and I realize I really need something. I have a hand held one I bought for walking Janey but the battery runs out too quick. I think I'm going for an old fashioned plug in like the one I had.
I stopped at Ross today to get a shower curtain liner and the power went out. I didn't stick around to see if it came back on because the store was weirdly crowed for a random Tuesday anyway. I may try again next week.
My sister is bringing mom tomorrow for a visit. I'm making burgers and air fryer fries. She will have time to call her sister too which is good. I had a hard time finding her pants at the thrift store. For some reason they had a ton of leggings but not too many knit pants. I did the best I could I only found 2. If they don't work for her my sister can get some at Walmart with mom's money.

It is 60 here today and overcast. I had planned to go out and cut some frozen bushes but walked out the door, turned around, and walked back into to the 74 degree kinda warmness. I am not one to bundle up to go outside and definitely don't bundle up to sit inside a cold house when the heater is available. Guess I will do some stuff inside and wait for FedEx to deliver Terrell's latest meds.

How's Terrell doing, kritter? I hope he's improving and will keep on til he no longer needs meds. Poor thing.
jesmelric- if you have vinyl or latex gloves, medical or non-medical, try those. They're cheap and will keep your hands warm. I discovered that back when I worked in an office and the heat went out. Thin enough to use a keyboard with no problem or push buttons on the phone. They also add extra warmth to a pair of gloves or mittens.
It's been nice and sunny today. Currently 21 degrees (not counting windchill) and brushing off 6+ inches of snow on, around and behind my Cube was easy. It wasn't fluffy anymore, but it wasn't heavy, either, and was done in no time. I sure don't look like a fashionista, but that vintage oversized cold weather military parka and added quilted liner sure keep me nice and comfy. And the pockets are large enough to hold essentials so I don't need a purse.
We're supposed to get another couple inches of snow overnight, then more Friday and Sunday. I hope SIL called the guy to plow MIL's driveway again because she didn't yesterday and DH got stuck and took him 45 minutes to dig his van out. He was not happy when he got home last night because there was around another foot piled up and she did nothing about it. We're both concerned if something happens to MIL, an ambulance won't be able to get in.

We had a bit of a setback with Terrell. The bacteria issues on his tail area finally got cleared up but when we went in on 1/11 for a final checkup, there were two small open wounds on his left hip area right above his tail. The vet sent in a culture from those areas and it came back with a different bacteria that had apparenly been masked by the other two bacteria. This bacteria is hard to grow on a culture so we were lucky in one aspect that it showed up like it did on this culture. The dermatologist said this was a very resistant bacteria and would take at least two months maybe longer to clear it up plus it could reoccur at a later date. Apparently it is a deep tissue bacteria which had been there all along but the other two antibiotics didn't phase it. We started on another antibiotic which has not gone well. It is in pill form and poor Terrell turns into a gagging drooling mess twice a day when he gets it. I am a professional pill giver to cats and this has been a challenge to get the pill even close to down his throat. Fortunately the drug can be compounded so we sent off for it and it should be here today in liquid form and chicken flavor. My vet and I were joking last October that she had to get Terrell fixed before she went on maternity leave for 6 weeks. She leaves on 2/21. Terrell and Chanel will have been in foster since last May. A simple case of flea allergy turned into a never ending bacteria drama. Going to be a challenge to get him adopted with a possible reoccuring deep tissue bacterial infection on his resume.

Sorry to hear about Terrell. Hopefully he is on the mend soon.
Hubby just went up and got Patton's ashes and brought them home. Bill was $510 and my deductible is $500 so it's a wash. I will submit the bill anyway.
Got out walking today. First time in a month due to ice and cold temps (and the walking I was doing at work). Back into the deep freeze tomorrow.

Jes-I have gloves with the fingertips cut off for typing when my hands get too cold. So the rest of the hand stays warm.

I see Terrell has his paw up - Cassie used to do that a lot - he's a really cute cat! Playing with my new phone (Christmas present) - the camera works quite well. We had an actual bona fide sunset tonight when the fog cleared and the marine layer burned off. Fog is back but I got a photo.

Terrell does that paw thing when he wants me to pet him. If I stop petting, he will put his paw up on my hand or arm to tell me that I am not done with petting. His buddy, Chanel, is just the opposite. She would be fine if I never touched her again ever.

Gypsy does the same thing. When I get home from work and sit down, she waits until I pull out her 'seat' (I have a pull out tray on my desk, that is where she sits), will jump up and sit on it. If I don't pet her, she reaches out with her claws so she can grab me and pulls me toward her. It's quite endearing but very annoying LOL

Cassie used to just sit that way - when she wanted to be petted she would grab my leg or start batting my hands with her paws. Earlier - photo isn't as good as I was sitting in the car. This a semi-abandoned property down in town with very organized graffiti (it does have some stores in it but it's pretty ramshackle).

Mom's old chihuahua companion sat in Mom's lap pretty much all day. Whenever I was going to leave after a visit, Pixel would roll over on her back and want a tummy rub. If I stopped, she'd tap my hand with her paw to let me know she wanted more. Sometimes I stayed over 10 minutes rubbing that dog's tummy and she'd still tap my hand for more. I sure miss both Mom and Pixel.

I LOVE graffiti art like that tho I can rarely make out what it says. We had a graffiti artist paint the whole skate shop, one bit at a time. Because we shared a wall with a bakery next door, anytime I smell Krylon spray paint I crave donuts, lol! It's a treat when I get stopped at a train track near enough to the actual boxcars so I can admire the artwork as it slowly creeps past.

We're both concerned if something happens to MIL, an ambulance won't be able to get in. My sister lives south of you and got caught right on the edge of the big storm last week. I went up and shoveled off her deck (her front door is on the second floor with access via the deck) and drove back and forth on her driveway to pack it down. That was my intent that someone could get to her if need be. Unfortunately, she has gotten several more inches since then. It worries me a lot. She is gradually coming to the realization that she needs to move, either into a condo or assisted living. She hates giving up her independence, though, which I understand, but her friends are all either aging or go south for the winter, so it really worries me that she is there through the winter with little support. Summer is not such a problem, at least for now.

DH's family rarely shoveled anything and would just drive back and forth to pack down the snow. The downside is that packed snow turns into ice and not only makes it more dangerous, especially if there's new snow on top so you don't see the ice underneath, but takes longer to melt so remains icy/sluchy/slick.
I told DH it's a good thing we have a lot of clothes because who knows when I'll be able to do laundry over there. I'm glad I still have my mini washer, centrifugal dryer and drying racks so I can always do small loads here if needed.

Getting help doesn't mean you have to lose your independence.
