Glad I never have to deal with that cleaning oven thing. Important papers don't make a mess at all.

Good luck Val! I had a scan that occurred before a pre-authorization was through and when I complained, my chemo center back-dated the request for me.

Only a clairvoyant can get preauthorization for an emergency. It sounds like the hospital put the wrong code on incident or something. Maybe call Grinch General on Monday and get the billing department to look it up. I recommend watching Scrooge, the musical with Albert Finney to soothe your soul. val2525

They should review the claim - that's crazy! We have a traditional Christmas dinner potluck with turkey, dressing, ham and a bunch of vegetarian options - everyone brings their special dish. We had a nice visit at the Vet Cemetery - it had been squally today but we managed to time our visit in between squalls - under heavy cloud but some sunbursts which showed the greensward and trees with beautifully dotted wreaths, sparkling in the wet. Another squall blew in as we were leaving, but it's settled back down to steady rain again, with temps dropping. I think we'd probably better toss the chains in the back of the stationwagon before we head down to family Christmas. At any rate, most of the headstones have epitaphs dedicated to a beloved son, daughter, grandparent, etc. I was walking down the row of stones to give the DH some time to be alone with his brother after I had visited, and among the loving dedications, this epitaph caught my eye: Whatever you want to do, do it now.

They pre-dated my husband’s trigger thumb surgery. Hopefully that is all that is needed. It’s not like you had some type of optional surgery.

Merry Christmas! Had one of the best Christmas Eve's ever. Perfect mix of people and Bruce made Beef Wellington. It was the first time he's ever made it. He planned it and stressed over it for weeks. It couldn't have turned out better.
I learned a few things though. Before last night, I knew what beef wellington looked like but I really didn't know what cut of meet or any other details. The meat was so freakin tender so I asked what cut of meat it was. He said beef tenderloin. I was still confused so I said it tastes like filet mignon.. he reply was ... it is. No wonder it tasted so good! The other is sweet potatoes. He put a delicious bowl of what looked like mashed potatoes (topped with toasted pecans) on the table but he said they were sweet potatoes. All these years I had the two mixed up. Sweet potatoes are light in color, the yams are orange. I had it backwards.

Yesterday was mostly sunny & in the 50's tho' very windy. Fairly typical here. But just before dusk, a squall blew through & it snowed for 45 minutes. Just enough to coat everything overnight. The timing created a very dramatic landscape. That's Pikes Peak in the middle of the skyline. Of course it's all gone this AM, since it's in the 50's again. Sure was pretty to see a quick, dramatic blast of snow on Christmas Eve though. Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas, everyone!
It's just generic drizzle-drip right now but supposed to start snowing this evening - I've already got the chains out and we'll toss them into the car for when we go to the family potluck this evening.
The DH and I opened our presents this morning - I got him a pair of Italian winter cycling boots - they're goretex and neoprene. His present winter cycling shoes are so worn that they're leaking all over the place and falling apart, despite repairs. He got me a (gasp) Samsung Galaxy 5G phone(!). I have an older budget phone which I've managed by various means to adapt to business use (stripping bloatware, etc.), but the battery runs out easily, I can't update the OS and it's constantly out of memory. But, I kept putting off buying a new phone since I just can't justify the expense...really, and I like my old phone, but this is a fantastic upgrade. I'm going to see about using my old phone for something - storing tunes or whatever.

Not sure what they have out now.

It's part of the "A" series and is 5G - it's less oriented for camera use than the S20 but more tech and build heavy.

Held off most of the day walking because it was drizzling all day. Cleared up just long enough for my walk and it is supposed to rain again any minute.
Eating leftovers tonight.
Hope everyone got what they wanted today and that your families enjoyed their gifts if you celebrate.

My DD, grandson and DD's guy friend came over at 5:30 and brought food. They did wear masks, but guy friend had to comment that Covid is not as bad as the news reports.
Jaxson started to argue with him but I cut that short since I didn't feel like getting into a political argument with him.
Guy friend gave my daughter a new S20 Galaxy too. I guess the S20 has a better camera than the S21.

Cornish hen and green bean casserole are cooking as I type. The kitties (and I) got lots of goodies from their kitty aunties, and the kitties are currently scattered all over the apartment (as are the toys, LOL) sleeping off a full day of playing with wrapping paper, empty boxes, LOTS of new toys, a really cool tunnel rug and a ribbon on a stick. When they wander out in a bit I'll give them some wet food for Christmas dinner. Then we're all sitting down to watch TV. Last night I watched White Christmas (my fave Christmas movie). Tonight, though, it's back to Castle.

I cleaned out my storeroom today. Wanted to be outside in the great weather and the cleanout was long overdue.
We have a guy in a white pickup that cruises our alleys every Sunday looking for stuff put out for the garbage pickup on Monday that he can salvage.
I have a great selection for him for his driveby tomorrow. Four pairs of hedge clippers and I haven't had a hedge in many years. An edge trimmer that must weigh at least 15 pounds that I gave up lugging around a long time ago. Plus assorted other junk that I am pretty sure he will take away.
Bonus ball is that I can actually walk into the storeroom now.

White Pickup Guy must be my brother from another mother - alleys are some of the best places every to cruise for stuff - I started my own alley picking when I was 6 years old with another little girl.
We had a noisy, happy Christmas, though smaller than usual. For the family picture, though, it was still a feat to cram everyone into the shot, so we all decided to stand on the staircase. We kept crowding up there, with more and more people pushing upward until we were a solid mass, and had the usual recalcitrant teenage kid which had to be yelled for and finally fetched. Then the remote switch on the camera wouldn't work - we mercilessly heckled a couple of cousins trying to get it going and one of my nieces said "worst peanut gallery ever" lol. A couple of photos had one cousin's backside in the lens as he made a mad dash to get into the shot and by the time we finally got our photo, we were in hysterics.
Spiral ham instead of turkey - ham is such a treat, I only have it once or twice a year on feast days. One of my aunts refuses to get vaxxed so she did not get to join us - it's crazy, she's a retired physician!
ETA: Oh, yeah - I'm the salad maker for the family, a hereditary task from my dad who was salad maker before me (I guess I got the gene). I tried a new treatment using sweet n' hot marinated little peppers and garlic garbanzo beans along with my somewhat Mediterranean treatment, and there was hardly a leaf left in the big bowl that I tossed, so I guess my peppery spicey experiment was a hit.

When you get it in a restaurant and it is sliced first and then cooked on a grill, its called filet mignon. But it's all the same piece of meat. My sister-in-law made the whole tenderloin yesterday, she cooks it to perfection, crusty on the outside and medium rare inside with more rare in the center and a touch more well-done on the ends pieces. Beef Wellington has a flaky crust puff-pastry all around the whole piece of meat, roasted whole, then sliced to serve individual pieces. Any way you eat it, it's a fantastic piece of meat.

Trader Joes has a turkey take on beef wellington. It's turkey tenderloin with stuffing and gravy, with the pastry outer layer like Beef Wellington. I didn't get it for the holidays since I hadn't cleaned my oven yet. Now that I can bake in the oven again, I think I'll swing by Trader Joes this week and see if they have any of the Turkey & Stuffing En Croute left

I'm dreaming of a whiiiiite boxing day.... The snow finally came and because it's so cold out, it's fluffy and dry. I hadn't slept well in days because of flu symptoms and "the armpit thing" which is what several members of my family called the swollen lymph nodes from Covid shots (I can finally fold my arm down again), so I slept until noon and missed my morning Oh well, I needed the sleep. Had planned on going to the Goodwill Christmas sale, running there and then asking the DH to swing by and pick me and my goodies up when he goes to the market - not sure if we'll still be able to do that, but I'll just walk over now. I see people running in the snow, and I ran and rode my bike in the snow years ago, but that would not be now.

I'm thrilled we had a rainy Christmas and a dry, chilly day today with not a flake of that white stuff in sight. Celebrated Christmas at MIL's today (actually sitting around with Yuppies talking about various things). Food smelled just about done when unvaccinated niece and fiance showed up so I hastily said my goodbyes and left. Local SIL (it's her unvaccinated daughter because of unvaccinated fiance who doesn't take Covid of any variant seriously) and I said I was sorry, but I don't want to be around unvaccinated people. The living room is too small for 10 people and they also don't wear masks. I think it's unconscionable considering MIL's almost 94 years old. I'm sure DH isn't happy I left, but I do not want to take any chances getting sick.

We are supposed to get a mixed bag of weather this week. Tomorrow we may get a Wintry mix. Will try to get out walking before it starts but it depends on when I wake up and there is still a chance of it starting earlier. And it is going to be cold. Hoping if I get stuck the ground will be warm enough to keep it from freezing.
Looks like rain is in the forecast almost everyday. Ugh. May have to turn on the treadmill...
My filet mignon story - years ago, my brother was coming to visit mom's at Christmas. He came every year. Mom told him we were having filet. He thought we were having fish:) He was surprised when he saw we were having filet mignon. Mom started serving filet every year after that. (My brother is older than me)...

That is exactly how his turned out. Here is a picture of the one we ate and a pic of it sliced on Cliff's plate. I think it was a first for all who were there I think he said the meat was supposed to have a coating of mustard and maybe something else but he forgot or skipped that part. He was very pleased with his creation though. It's obviously an expensive cut of meat (he purchased at Costco) so one can understand the stress involved. Especially when serving to guests.

blissfullymiserable Beautifully plated! I haven't had my daughter here in 2 years because of Covid so spent Christmas just me and the psychopoodle. I sent my daughter a whole passel of presents though and she has called me the past 3 nights as she opens them in groups on FaceTime. I'm really loving that--stretch out Christmas and seeing her for several nights!

Wow, I don't really even eat much meat but that beef Wellington certainly looks good - the plate is beautifully done. Good job!
Goodwill stayed closed today so I didn't miss anything. We jauntered around to a couple of stores (put chains on). The snow is supposed to lay off, but it's dropping down into the teens which is very cold for here, then start snowing again Wed or Thurs. Next week we're back to rain/snow mix which doesn't faze anyone as long as it doesn't freeze. Today most of the roads had people sliding around on them on sleds, skis, etc. and dogs in jackets galloping around trying to chase the flying snow.

My daughter and my other daughter's partner both like cooking so our holiday meals are usually pretty nice. It was my daughter's partner who did the tenderloin this time, and my daughter plans to do beef wellington the next time as she's done it before and loved it, and I think they are trying to outdo each other (all in good fun--everyone gets along really well).

Bruce and his wife are our really good friends, we actually lovingly refer them as our pseudo parents. They are wonderful people. I met her through working in the medical field back in the mid to late 90's. She's been a great replacement mom since I was forced to disown mine and her wacky 3rd husband about 14 years ago oh back to our friends, ironically in the 80's we lived in the same exact neighborhood only 2 residential street away from each other. They still live in the same house. Last year I baked the post office custodian cookies after she declined a gift card. Last week I gifted her with a Kringle from Trader Joe's. I could tell she wasn't thrilled when I gave it to her and she made a comment about no cookies this year... lol. Saw her a few days later and she made another comment about cookies. So one day this week and I need to get up early and throw together cookies for her and take them when they're warm. I love this kind of honestly. If the nice lady wants cookies, she'll get cookies
