That's really bad when PHX is cooler than SA
Just wait....January and February are the coldest months here.
Now we just get lil wimpy cold fronts that last a day or two.
Come January the cold here gets serious.

Jes- tell your daughter she's experiencing an old-school, classic Portland winter. This cold, wet weather pattern is what was normal my entire life- we had cold drizzly rain from Halloween thru July 4th. About 5 years our weather began to change slightly. Since I'm a gardener & plant nerd I noticed the change in the order of our landscape shrubs & flowers bloomed. It used to be more of a progression, spread out over 2-3 months in the Spring. Now everything seems to bloom sooner and is more clumped together time-wise. It makes exciting floral explosions for a couple of months but then the yard is exhausted by June, lol. Zoe- 100 mph winds?? Wow & UGH!! We get weather advisories for 25-30 mph gusts. Stay safe & hope you find a test soon. Yeah - Portland you get a bit more seasonal definition because of the Columbia River. Here we have the big Puget Sound cooler and the Frazier Valley (B.C.) wind effect, so it starts drizzling late September and summer arrives in early July, though some years summer never arrives and other years we get something horrible like last summer and it's way, way too long. Six weeks of summer is about right for me. I did notice that 'clumping' last summer definitely - everything was clumped in June and by August it was cooling off. We have a two-week burst of spring (whch is really nice) and 'Indian summer' October burst.

Yeah, I wasn't willing to pay for a test. Like the dentist said, 'why even get tested at this point, are you gonna do anything different if you know you have it'. I'd already had the sore throat for 1 1/2 weeks at this point, so it really doesn't matter much from a contagion perspective. The only thing I would do differently is cancel any appts, but I only had 1 appt left anyway. If I do have it, I am likely not contagious anymore & my symptoms are mild, so I wouldn't seek treatment. So, really, I just want to know, so I know. There was no way I was gonna pay for it, when free options were avl if I just waited a day. I waited the day, got tested today & should know within 24-36 hours. RetroMonde 25-30 mph is just a Tuesday around here LOL. This is not the first time we've had 100MPH winds, even in the last couple of years, but this round was quite damaging around town, many trees down, 25 semis overturned before they closed the interstate to truck traffic, etc. We had 1 gate damaged, but our fence co is good about repairs. We were lucky that we maintained power (new subdivision so everything is underground & fiber), there were 30K ppl without power. I went to an older part of town today with mature trees & it was a mess & all the stoplights, even on some really major roads, were still out.

So I guess that all USA schools got the notice about the TikTok threat of school shootings. My daughter sent Jaxson anyway. Too bad that the schools can't all require metal detectors.

Not a sweater, but weird and ugly Christmas top that actually fits well I got cheap at GW earlier this year. Pigs and kittens wearing Santa hats on pizza slices in space. Screams Christmas, doesn't it? (this is pic from old ebay listing of identical top I'm wearing except mine has long sleeves):

Yes she's been there about 7 years now so I guess she's getting more accustomed to it but I guess that doesn't mean she has to like it lol. We are the complete opposite here; record highs and hardly any rain. I keep telling DH it doesn't feel very festive but he keeps saying, it's a lot better than rain and/or freezing. And of course he's right. Cold front tomorrow but warming up again on Wed with Xmas eve and Xmas day in the upper 70s, maybe 80. Well, it is what it is I guess. I hope the front waits till after our visit with mom. If it's raining we have to visit inside and it's impossible to talk much because it's often quite loud in there.
Today is DH last day until the 3rd and he's super excited about it lol. They are having the Christmas party today at the shop. Last year they did a drive through because of Covid. I told him when you go in to make a plate wear your mask then if you're going to eat, do it outside. Often he'll just bring a plate home to reheat. They've been getting it catered by a Mexican restaurant the last couple of years, and it's not great. With all the good Mexican food in Houston, too! Before they did Bbque, who knows why they changed. Since they did a drive through last year they gave everyone a $25 gift card to the restaurant and it was WAY over priced, too. I think most of the guys in the field would rather have no food and a bigger bonus. Ah well.
Well I'm officially done with all my wrapping, yay! The older I get the more work it is! I want to make some cookies this week and prepare for the buffet and do a bit of yard work. It's hard to believe Christmas eve is a week from today!

Yay, not COVID! Still concerning that I got *some* virus, despite being mostly careful. It didn't even take 24 hours for the test to come back, through my regular medical facility.

Yay Zoe! We had our Christmas lunch this past Monday, at www.fogodechao.com and it was REALLY good. I didn't do the meat deal, I opted for the seared salmon with asparagus and it was awesome. They even told me how to get the same finish on the salmon at home (pan sear first for outer crispy, then bake for flaky inside, I never thought of that!). We also received very nice Christmas bonuses. We didn't call it the office Christmas lunch though. One employee is a Jehovah's Witness and they don't do holidays, so it was our "Thank Goodness We Made It Through Another Year of COVID" or the "Thanks For All You Do, Love The Bosses" lunch . We did our gift swap at the office, and the JW employee met us at the restaurant so it worked out nicely. The JW employee wouldn't go to the lunch in past years when we said it was the Christmas lunch, and we wanted her to join us, so we renamed it a few years ago. The sr partner's wife joined us, and we have a former office manager who quit but has since been rehired as a contractor, she was there too, so it was like old times. It was nice to be in a group again. I think that's what I miss the most since COVID hit - being able to meet up with friends for lunch and dinner. It's a bit better now, I limit it to vaxxed friends and non-busy hours at the restaurant I cannot get motivated to work today, so I guess I'm working Sunday instead. We have a short week next week and the week after. We're off Thursday & Friday off for Christmas & New Years, and both Wednesdays we close at noon. I may work all day next Wednesday though, since I won't have to stop and check email, texts and Liscio for client messages after we "close" at noon. I get sooooooo much more done when I'm not interrupted by clients

Well crap. My fancy schmanzy (and expensive) ergonomic keyboard just up and died. Only 7 months of use on it. I just ordered two cheapie USB keyboards, they're being delivered tomorrow morning. That way I have a backup on hand. Thank goodness I have a Mac, I just moved the keyboard from it to the PC. I also left a not so nice product review on Amazon. I paid too much for that stupid keyboard for it to die so soon.

Never been to Fogodechao but I've been to other Brazillian Steakhouses, they're always a fun experience but LOTS of food so you have to make sure you're REALLY hungry. We had Cliff's Christmas party last Friday night at Stockyards which I guess is a steakhouse. It was the 3rd time it's been there, it's always good. They did a white elephant gift exchange. He stole a blanket and bottle of wine from one of his co workers. We have so many couch throw blankets here, we didn't need another one to add to the collection but he really likes piling multiple blankets on top of himself when we're on the couch so he's happy and it's prevented us from having to turn on the heat.

Looks like there's one in Scottsdale, Bliss. We went to Tucanos for our Christmas lunch a few years ago, I think Fogo de Chao was even better. Fogo's "salad" bar was different and really good. At my office, it's all ladies who do the gift swap, and there was only 4 of us, so everyone brought a female gift within $X price range, the gifts were assigned a number, and then we drew out a number and that was our gift. It took about 5 draws before no one got the gift they brought. The gift I drew was a nice electric sherpa throw, but entirely too hot for my climate and cat claws and electric blankets aren't recommended. The person who brought commented when we were drawing numbers that she bought something she'd love to have. So I gave it to her (why not, I'll never use it) and she was happy. She did ask wouldn't it be good to have on hand if we got another freeze this winter? To which I replied it would be useless because our power goes out when it freezes and it was an electric blanket She sent me some money via Zelle instead even though I told her it wasn't necessary. I was just happy to have another "person" to shop for as I had a lot of fun shopping for my Secret Santa gift

Keyboards - hubby wore the markings off a few of his. He tried writing over the letters. I told him he could probably get a few new keys.
Anyway he bought an ergonomic keyboard and he decided he didn’t like it and it was too cheaply made. He took it back and bought a Logitech like he had.
So make sure the keyboard is something you can deal with. I have a Razr which is backlit. Bought it years ago.

Funny, I said that to DH this morning. It's currently around 34, only going up to maybe 40 and supposed to rain all day. That's practically unheard of this time of year around here. I'll take wet precipitation over the white stuff any time. unless temps drop before it dries up and turns to ice.

The same here. Trying to figure out if I am going out walking. Cold and damp.

We have a major frog strangler going on here this morning. Apparently cold front hits warm coastal air right over us. Couple of cold days and then back in the 70s by Tuesday. Perfect for throwing down the mulch I have stacked in my garage.

What did it do? We're good at fixing keyboards at my house. I've sold a couple hundred refurbed ones. It just died. No warning, no problems before, it was working fine. And then poof, nothing. I didn't really like it anyway and it didn't solve the problem that caused me to buy it in the first place. I went back to cheap USB keyboards. I needed a new one for the Mac anyway, and the keyboard I bought works on PC and Mac. The one that was on the Mac came with my HP. I don't like it either and it didn't play all that well with the Mac. So it will become my backup keyboard It was so gloomy either when the rain and front moved in that I turned on the Christmas lights in the living room windows

I wear the letters off keys, too, but since I know where they are I don't worry about it. I did copy editing for so many years, and before then in my hot youth transcription, that I pound along at 130 WPM and most keyboards just don't keep up with me - the old standard Microsoft keyboards that were made from the 90s work best. Simple and very tough. They're PS3 so I have to use a USB adapter, but I stockpiled those things to last me until I retired. Copy editors are notoriously hard on keyboards because we're always pushing deadlines and often get paid by the line, so if we don't type fast we get left in the dust lol.
When I left for class this morning the rain was just coming straight down. So, during class strange stuff started happening - some of the connections for the heart rate monitors would cut off and some of the participants were showing strange results, then the monitor for the weight room would cut out and the coach would be hollering the instructions, or it would freeze, etc. When I left I realised why - the rain had gone from straight down to sideways - I hope our power stays up.

I have had a Logitech Wave for the last few years and just got a new one. Some of the letters of mine were worn off, which was no problem for me. But then my grandson wanted to type something and couldn't find the letters that he wanted. And the keys were sticking. Time to let it go. (Plus I had a $20 reward credit to spend). This new one is better than the former since the USB thing automatically synced both the keyboard and mouse at once. Now I have to get used to keys that aren't sticking and can type faster.

If you have a beloved keyboard with the letter decals worn off, you can get replacement decals.
