Good morning everyone! Another week of up and down temps and rain/sleet/snow precipitation. Overcast day with falling temps so glad I can stay in and hibernate and do my grocery shopping tomorrow. Reminder if you're mailing Christmas cards or packages to get them mailed soon to ensure they arrive in time. Have an inky dinky doo day!

We've got gale force winds here today, temp is about 35° so that puts the wind chills in the single digits. Blech! I have to go to the PO and take the dogs out, but other than that I'm staying IN!!

Cold front pushing through here right now and we are going down to high 50s and then 40s tonight. I guess that is still a weather gloat compared to staytuned and sunset. Thursday and Friday will be in the 80s so something to look forward to.

Bleah on our weather. Sunny and 60s is perfect for December.
*sigh* I wish that would happen around here. Maybe in May.
High today 42 dropping in 20s tonight. HIGH tomorrow 28 and that's not counting windchill. I will be wearing my 700 down fill parka tomorrow that's lightweight and wonderfully warm.

All your talk about cold temps reminded me to stop at the fabric store later and get a long zip to replace the broken one on my newest winter coat. I'm not looking forward to doing that repair but it's a lovely coat otherwise... a terrific replacement for my HOT PINK puffer I've been using the last few years.
It's raining cats & dogs outside- that's our 10 day forecast in a nutshell. DS & friends decided it was the perfect day to go to the beach. Cold & wet is one thing. Cold, wet and a 2 hour drive home is quite different- I'll pass!

Bleah on our weather. Sunny and 60s is perfect for December. I SO AGREE!!! I don't want it freezing, but I also don't want 80 in December Sunny and 60's IS perfect!! We finally got a cool front today, not much rain even though they said a lot. I was finally able to open the windows and let some drier and cooler air in.
Boy I don't know what happened last week but it was like Hey let Everything be defective week. It started Tuesday morning when I went to exercise and set my Fitbit Versa 2 for working out and the button for the screen isn't working. The screen works, it comes on when you plug it in to charge it, but the button to operate it went defunct. (in calling later of course it was out of warranty even though my daughter bought it for me for Christmas not quite 2 years ago. They gave me a 35% discount code but I found it for a matching price on HSN with a free extra band and 5 payments with no interest. The new one better last more than 2 years or I am done with Fitbit).
Then when I went to put my exercise DVD in the player wouldn't load it. It's a burned DVD I copied from VHS years ago, I guess it can't read burned DVD's any more, I tried two. So I just moved on to one that's not burned, and luckily was able to find a cheap replacement I'm waiting for from ebay.
Then Wednesday morning my cell phone started acting up. It kept telling me I wasn't on the network. It wouldn't make or receive calls, I could receive texts but not send. Since I was already swapping because Boost won't support 3G after this month anymore, I just lived with it until Friday when I had time to swap phones. I switched from a Samsung A series to a Motorola and so far I like it a lot better so at least there's that.
Then Thursday I went to hang my new shower curtain. My old one was getting moldy so I got a new one from Amazon in Oct, but I didn't hang it right then because I have a fall one I like to use and I already had that one up. Well the lesson here is always check right after you order because this thing was missing 2 holes and 6 inches in width! It had 12 hooks and 10 holes and was about 6" narrower in width than the liner. And of course it was past the return window. I did contact the seller (definitely not in the USA ) and they offered to keep and give me a 60% refund. Well I had no other options so I took it and then trashed it. I sure didn't want to donate it and of course someone would end up with the exact same problem I had.
So fingers crossed that's it for a while! I'm grateful it was nothing major, but just little irritating things that were really working my nerve by the end of the week lol.

Got out walking this morning. It was in the 40s but we had some misty rain.

jesmelric - wow! Hope you got all the wonkiness done with for quite a while! No surprises here - dark and drizzling, though the temps are slowly dropping still. We have a sort of 'darkness index' here for days when it never gets much above twilight - today was one, but we had one last winter where it was close to dusk all day it even got into the papers it was so weirdly dark. It's a combination of latitude, tilt, cloud cover and a bunch of other stuff. The Alaskans here can feel kind of at home on those days lol. I gave up on trying the solar-powered fairy lights, though - there's just no way it's going to work around here without a much larger solar panel. I'm looking at USB rechargeable outdoor Christmas lights, instead. ETA: Edited to get rid of strangely long blank space at the end of this post.

Brrr, 25 right now & Gawd, I HATE this getting dark early sh%t! It's just cold & dark. I don't want to do anything b/c it's so cold & dark! Basically it's dark 2 1/2 hours after I get to the point of being awake. Got my space heater on, all the time. Luckily it will be in the 50's by Wed. Still dark though :-( My dental implant has a screw loose for the 2nd time in 2 months, so frustrating, as I really wanted no appts this week, except my IV Hydration & my trainer. I feel like this is my last week to really list Xmas & I probably have 150 items to list. Won't get to all of them I am glad not to live in MN anymore though

Simon looks huge here but it's just the camera angle - he's in the front and Toby is about 2 ft behind Simon. To give proper perspective, Toby is about 25 lbs to Simon's 6-8 lbs, and Simon is about half as tall/long as Toby right now.

Simon is a hunk Val! It's been like spring here but a cold snap is finally coming. We're actually going to be below normal temps. Or so the weather people say. I hope they're right. Want to wear the sweaters that I bought and not sweat to death.

(((Jes))) Sure hope that your back luck ends! Thanks so much I forgot to mention what also happened last week. I was walking Janey and we stopped because she pooed. I had the bag on my hand and had just picked it up, but hadn't yet gotten my other hand on it to pull it shut and tie it, and another dog walker came up behind us and startled Janey and she started barking and pulled the leash. I had it on my right wrist and I instinctively reached out to pull her back in with my other hand, but wasn't realizing it had an open bag of poo in it and I grabbed it and she pulled and cr*p smeared all down the leash from the handle to about 1/2 way down. It was so awful I had hold it at the bottom, right by her harness and walk home hunched over with the rest of the leash dragging behind us And BTW I have always thought it was a courtesy thing when a dog walker has a dog pooping/cleaning poo you walk across the street because the dogs might react to each other and you aren't trying to cause a disturbance. That's what I always do and have seen others do.
Goodness I don't know how you guys who have such short days this time of year deal with it! I thought getting light at 6:45 and dark around 5:30 was bad enough. DD who lives in Portland hates it. She grew up here with longer days and lots of sunshine. She and BF are always looking for warm sunny places to vacation lol. I like fall and winter but they are very mild here. I think if I lived up north I would not be able to deal with a real winter. I also don't want an 80 degree Christmas.

Feeling like a weight has been lifted. Been worrying about my teeth for a few years or more. When my permanent teeth came in they were oddly speckled so long story short I'm on my 2nd set of veneers. The ones I have now were done in the early 2000's so saying they need to be replaced is an understatement. I have 6 and they're intact but upon close inspection cracked and overall a mess. The newish to me dentist that I was seeing retired and a new guy bought his practice but I'm not completely comfortable with him doing the work. At my last cleaning he was really pushing me to move forward with getting them taken care of (I waited too long and veneers are no longer an option... they're going to need crowns instead). Going back even further, the dentist that did them in the early 2000's also retired and his son in law took over his practice. I finally decided to make an appt at that office. Went this morning and am very pleased with how the appt went. He took a lot of pic's, some x-rays, impressions and is going to consult with a gum specialist and the lab. I go back on the 27th. Tried to call Cliff but he was consumed with work so decided to share here

Jes most of us in our neighborhood cross the street (or walk in the street for a minute) when coming upon other walkers or dog walkers. Common courtesy. Depending on which dog I have, I may turn around and go another way.

Speaking of dogs, the new neighbors next to us obviously have a hound dog because of the way it howls. And it's LOUD. And must have exceptional hearing because we're 2 1/2 flights up the stairs and as soon as I walked through the downstairs door, I could hear it start barking that got louder as I climbed the stairs and obviously coming from next to us. It's so loud, for the first time in over 26 years living here, with numerous neighbors next to us, this is the first time I heard any noise through the common kitchen wall and it was the dog barking. I finally had it and yelled, 'SHUT UP!!!" at the wall. The barking immediately stopped and has stayed quiet the rest of the day. DH said it started howling when he left work around 7am this morning.
Bad enough we've been fighting tree rats for almost 12 years and every time we go over MIL's we have to put up with SIL's parrot that never stops squawking and every time you walk by, the "bird alarm" goes off, so I told DH the neighbors had better get the dog under control because I'm not putting up with a "dog alarm". We like our peace and quiet. There are at least 2 other dogs in here that never make a sound, even when they see someone.

Gotta love people who don't read directions. I posted a help wanted ad in an online group I belong to and asked anyone interested to please email me at (biz email addy) and I'd get back with them. Three did as instructed. The rest? Posted "contact me, I'm interested", or sent an application through the online portal (didn't know you could do that) and several other ways of contact. I requested they contact me by email for one reason - I wanted to see who could follow directions. The job requires being able to follow instructions LOL. The ones who do will get contacted first. The ones who didn't will be at the end of the list or maybe even not on it. We also wanted an initial email to get a feel of how the person presented themself. Do they use complete sentences, capitalize and punctuate, or do they use text speak? Yes, I've received at least one who used text speak in their email. *sigh*

GRRRR text speak irritates me. My kids know better than to text or message me like that. They write out entire sentences with the words all spelled out. They might miss some punctuation, but I'm okay with that. They know if they text speak to me, they will get a 'I'm sorry, I can't understand you.' response LOL

Jes most of us in our neighborhood cross the street (or walk in the street for a minute) when coming upon other walkers or dog walkers. Common courtesy. Depending on which dog I have, I may turn around and go another way. Yes, that's the same here, but I guess not everybody has courtesy He snuck up on us again yesterday! I was looking for the poo with my neck flashlight and hadn't grabbed it yet thank goodness, but we were about 2 feet off the sidewalk and he walked right by and his dog reacted first and of course Janey responded. Till Janey was about 3 she wanted to meet ALL dogs. Then she developed what they call leash reactivity. Not sure why she reacts to some dogs but not others. We are working on positive reinforcement training so she associates other dogs with something pleasant (tiny training treat). But there's a fella that rides a bike with his dog leashed to him and the dog is running pretty fast and no amount of treats can stop her from reacting to that lol.
Staytuned that sucks. Nothing more aggravating than a barking dog! I hope it's not a regular thing. When Janey's out back if she gets to barking I make her come in. Even I don't want to hear it and she's mine!
Bliss glad to hear you are relived about your teeth, ugh I hate teeth issues. I do not have great teeth. When I was a kid my adult teeth came in behind my baby teeth in several areas and my parents did not take me to the dentist to have extractions so I ended up with crooked and overcrowded teeth. I never had the money when I was young to get them fixed. When I was in my late 20s I got a deep scaling and got all my cavities filled and have been taking care of them since. I did eventually get 3 wisdom teeth extracted and all of my very back molars so they are actually less crowded now. I used to want great teeth but now that I'm 55 I don't care that they are yellow and pretty crooked, just that they are still mine
It is warming up today. Janey and I had a nice walk to the Petsmart and she picked herself a goodie and I picked up the "pet grandkids" gifts.

My running friend's Westie mix wants to Fight All Dogs. Dickens is always in a soft harness so my friend can just pull him back and keep him under strict control and away from the other dog/human - it's funny to see Dickens prancing along on his hind legs, waving his front paws, barking and growling. He would never hurt a soul, but he might have that 'leash reactivity' as he's a lot more sociable and not at all aggressive when they go to the free range dog park.
He walks two big, rangy Weimaraners who do the same thing - he says they'll both take off in an opposite direction and he has to haul them back - my friend is about 155 lb soaking wet so he almost gets jerked off his feet, but he's strong so manages to wrestle the dogs back. He likes the dogs but hates walking them because it's such an ordeal sometimes.

It's a real pain, she's about 45 lbs and that's bad enough. I have arthritis in the index knuckle of my right hand and it is not fun when she pulls like that. The positive reinforcement training is really helping a lot, she's at least 2/3 better now, in case you want to mention it to your friend. However I think it would be pretty difficult to implement when he is walking the two heavier dogs at the same time.
