Well I would like to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone today because I probably won't get much chance to be online during the long holiday weekend. Today I have made the cornbread and apple and pecan pies. I'm taking a little break (and doing a little listing) before I get the laundry off the line and make the brown butter blondies and do some (MORE!) dishes. I've got some dust mopping to do and drag out the extra table and chairs, as our very tiny table can only accommodate 4.
Tomorrow we will have Thanksgiving and of course I always end up with the dishes (sigh). Friday we have Black Friday at the VV (excitement abounds) and I think we are going to Aldi's. We've been getting a Honey baked ham the last few years but they are so expensive and they actually moved and it's a bit further away. I saw Aldi's has some hams in and in reading online reviews they seem to be pretty good so I think we are going to pick one up for Christmas and put it in the freezer. Saturday Janey has her annual vet visit and I want to get Christmas out of the attic and set up. And at some point DH is supposed to help me make these:
They were in the Better Homes and Gardens magazine last year and I bought the stuff earlier this year and kind of forgot about it but now it's getting down to the wire. DH is very artistic and I am not (think stick people lol). They don't seem hard but I think they will come out nicer with his help. Plus I think it might be a cozy activity to do together
So I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving!! And all the food comes out the way it is supposed to, and all of the leftovers are just as good as the meal itself

I miss the big family gatherings at Thanksgiving. We'd all gather at one relative's house, and it varied by year. Every family brought a dish or two so the work was split up and no one person had to do it all. I was always on dish washing duty, which was OK by me. The ladies would gather in the kitchen and either dry or sit and keep me and the person drying company with lots of laughing and chatter, while the guys would go watch TV. To this day, I love doing the kitchen cleanup (with help of course) after big family/friends dinner.
Saturday afternoon I'm getting my flu shot. I figured the grocery store might not be as crowded after Thanksgiving, LOL.

I miss Thanksgiving meals at Mom's since she could no longer prepare them which was probably 15 years ago. We always ate at 1pm and ate so much we couldn't look at food the rest of the day. Then fill up containers with homemade turkey and dumpling soup, turkey, Mom's outstanding stuffing and other side dishes that would last us a few more meals and cold turkey sandwiches. "It" somehow couldn't read simple instructions how to warm up a fully pre-cooked meal so one or two things would be on the table and if you didn't eat then, they'd be cold by the time something else came out. She also seemed to "forget" to heat up mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and would buy a lot of pre-made stuff nobody but she would eat. I got tired of walking out hungry, plus "It" always threw some kind of fit over whatever and told Mom we'd no longer go over on holidays. There's a Biblical verse about it being better to eat a morsel in an attic in peace than a feast with strife. "Feast with strife" summed it up perfectly. Now, we go over MIL's for a fully prepared meal that just needs to be heated that SIL puts everything in the oven at the same time so the turkey is dry, stuffing hard and rolls usually burned on the bottom. I'm going to eat something before we go over so my stomach's not growling. I just focus on how much I have to be thankful for and figure I've endured before and will again. At least SIL doesn't spazz out like "It".
Don't suggest I should offer to help because one time I brought over a spiral sliced ham to Mom's I'd made the evening before that just needed to be reheated. "It" turned on the oven, I put the ham on a cookie sheet, waited 15 minutes and opened the oven to find everything cold. She'd turned off the oven. I had her turn it on again. 15 minutes, oven and ham cold. I said as gently as I could, "How is it supposed to warm up if you keep turning off the oven?" and she had a meltdown. Can't say anything to SIL because she doesn't listen to anyone.

ROFL at the turkey lamp!
Everyone at T'giving (or any family party, or party, period) seems to end up crammed into the kitchen - I mean, cheek by jowl, shoulder to shoulder. No TV, though - I don't ever remember it even being on anywhere during family feasts , though I know various scores are consulted on phones from time to time and of course the upcoming Apple Cup is discussed.
Friday, however, it's ALL football. The Apple Cup is UW Huskies versus WSU Cougars, and given that my family has interbreeding Huskies and Cougs, everyone somehow gets involved, attending (the DH and I), listening, watching the game on Sling or whatever, eating leftovers and whatever else.

I was having stomach pain for twelve days. I was worried if my more serious illness that I had a few years ago had come back. I went ahead and went to urgent care and it turns out it is just a ulcer with some gastritis . Feel super relieved. They gave me some medicine through a IV and drank some stuff and I feel great! Came home and prepped green been casserole for my family tomorrow. All I have to do tomorrow is add the fried onions and heat in oven. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

For whomever was asking the other week about transferring photos from their phone to their computer, there's yet another way. Upload your pics to google photos on your phone, then log into your google account on your computer and download them. Easy peasy.

Happy Thanksgiving! A windy, cold, rainy day for our Turkey Trot. The start/finish line arch got blown over and the flags were standing on end. But, the rain eased off and we had a mostly dry race(!) Loads of fun, lots of enthusiasm, people of all ages shouting Thanksgiving greetings to everyone. We ran into a couple more friends there but they were doing the 5k (and are faster) so we didn't all run together. The company that puts this on (a local running company) always does such a great job. There was an excellent turn-out. My friend took 2nd in his age group and I took 3rd in mine, which I never expected. I guess at this stage of the game, showing up is half the battle. Now for a nice nap, then start salad preparations for the feast later on.

My daughter brought over a ton of food to me, so that makes me feel better. Besides, I didn't have to do all of the dishes!
Not thrilled with the Butterball turkey breast that I made since they use weird spices on it. But it will do.

Thanksgiving miracle--I put the scrawny little Butterball turkey in the oven and went to sleep. When I woke up, even though the thermometer was giving me wacky readings on it, it was done to perfection. Still a scrawny Bob Cratchit turkey, but perfection in its class. It's a good day to count your blessings.

Oftentimes the smaller birds/veg, etc., are tastier. Was Bob good?
My cousins who held Thanksgiving this year just inherited The Family Table. This is the largest dining table I have ever seen - it was stretched out to fit about 20, and my one cousin said there were still two leaves they hadn't used! I remember eating at this table on all sorts of occasions down through the decades, and it did seem to shrink and expand to enormous sizes, but I'd never seen it like this. It is also about five feet wide. Only one or two sets of cousins have a room big enough in their dwelling to fit The Family Table and leave it there. It also weighs so much that it takes multiple people to move it. They're stuck with it now lol.
We crammed into the kitchen then around The Family Table after serving ourselves and had a great time *urp* - hope everyone else had a good feast day!

Love the table story! Picturing those tables you see in the movies in mansions. We got a table similar to that at GW once and I remember how heavy it was and how long it expanded. I always thought how practical to be able to use the same table for a few or a lot of people. Glad you all had a great time.

While mine isn't quite that large I have a vintage kitchen table that has 4 extra leaves and can fit at least 12-14 people. It is hands down my best thrift store find of all time. I spied it at the thrift and nearly fell over when I saw the $50 price tag - solid wood table with 4 extra leaves and 6 chairs. I paid and it took me two trips to get it home. I got it into the garage to clean it up and was shocked to find it was HANDMADE and signed by the man who made it. I was even able to find his obituary online. I don't know how his handmade table ended up at a thrift but I hope he knows I am taking good care of it and treasure it.

Um, does Santa have a marketplace account?
An adult guy offered me $23 for a $25 jacket and I accepted. Then he wrote that he only has $2 on him. He lives 100's of miles away. He told me that he would message Santa to ask him. And sent me a picture of Santa!!
I am trying to be nice here and not discourage him from expecting it from Santa.

I am thinking that he has learning disabilities. He does have a job. But I have been saved since I just informed him it was a youth large jacket and not for an adult.

At least you had an edible leg. We had fully cooked turkey that was supposed to be reheated 250-300 degrees for 90-120 minutes that was in the oven for at least 3 hours at 350. Enough said.

Stay, maybe you and DH should do future holiday dinners at your place, just the two of you, then go over to whatever relative has attempted a dinner and bring a desert.

We are getting ready to eat now. Turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, corn, mixed veggies, rolls and apple pie. I will forgo the apple pie. We are eating at oversized tv tables while we watch tv.
The dogs are anxiously awaiting to see what they can mooch (nothing).
