I had a $200+ order delivered this past Friday, and my order included a few misc items. Well, 6 of the items have been shipped separately, 3 misc plus coffee and Gatorade. Each one has come separately via FedEx and I am being charged a $10 tip for FedEx and a fee of $10.49 for a "less than the $35 minimum" order. So a tiny pocket day planner that costs $5, ended up costing me $25.49!!!! It has been a nightmare calling or doing an online chat with Walmart to get these charges removed. The reps say that the items for which I am charged are coming from Facebook Marketplace. However, it is obvious to me that the charge of $10.49 is coming from Walmart.
I have seen lately outrageous prices on Walmart-like a $4 box of PopTarts was $30 so that was obviously dropshipping. But a dayplanner??? Coffee???
Those of you who order from your local stores, have you seen this scam?

I just make sure that everything in my cart is for pickup. (I don’t do local delivery) If I put things in my cart that are not, it’s easy to overlook that they are only for delivery or shipping. There are often items that are available in store but when I choose them for pickup, they are only available for shipping. I don’t know why. Just pay close attention to your cart and how you’ll receive them if you make sure you are shopping with the filter set for how you’d like to receive them, some still can slip through.

I avoid going into a Walmart at all costs. I used to order items to ship to me about once a month, but lately I notice items that said “available for shipping” suddenly were delivery or pick up only when I tried to check out 5 minutes later. I don’t like doing pick up, either, because parking is a nightmare and the pick up counter is clear in the back of the store. Not at all handy. I haven’t placed any Walmart orders for a few months. Target has started doing the same thing, it’s like going on a treasure hunt to find what I want and make sure it will ship.

I get orders from my local store delivered by DoorDash and from their warehouse shipped by FedEx and I have never had a tip charge. I just had a Fancy feast delivery from Walmart today delivered by FedEx and there was no tip charge.
Walmart has that online marketplace going just like Amazon where other stores/sellers can list on Walmart site so you have to be careful that your items are shipped from Walmart directly and not some kind of dropshipped listing like the PopTarts.
I always make sure my order hits the minimum order for free shipping which I think is the $35 minimum. They may split it up into different boxes coming from the warehouse in separate deliveries but as long as the total is $35, there is no charge. My fancy feast order is coming in two different shipments....one came today and the other one is scheduled to come tomorrow. No extra charges.

I posted this on Next Door and one of my Facebook groups, and I am not alone. Since Walmart changed their site, this mess started. But I only go to my local store site (which doesn't help I guess).
I used to do curb-side until one time they kept sending texts that my order was delayed....for 3 hours. I finally was able to talk to someone and my food had been sitting for 3 hours...melting ice cream, etc.
It is so much easier to have the stuff delivered to my back porch so that I don't have to drag everything up from my garage.

I rarely shop Walmart in store, but I love grocery pickup. They don’t take more appointments in the hour than they have marked pickup parking spots. I use Mealime app to choose my recipes for the week and upload to the Walmart (or Safeway) app. Delete ingredients I already have, and later that day or the next day I just pull in at my allotted hour, check in and pop my trunk. I don’t always plan my recipes to shop, but it’s a really streamlined process and I have never had an issue with their produce. I don’t buy meat at the grocery store, so I don’t know how well they do with that. I’ll use Safeway too depending on what’s on sale, but they are typically more expensive.

That's what I do, make sure my total order is $35 or more. My last order, part was delivered in person, part was delivered by USPS, and the final part was delivered by Fed Ex. I was not charged any kind of tip or postage.

Yes, they have changed their app lately and it is frustrating! They put things that can be shipped in a separate order. I was thoroughly confused until I figured out that I need to keep checking "in store" and pick up. It is like they want you to change to how they prefer you get your order..

It sounds like some of the items were dropshipped to you by somebody through Facebook marketplace and didn't make the $35 minimum order for those items so you got slapped with the $10.49 delivery charge from Walmart.
I have never seen a place to give a FedEx driver a tip on any Walmart order and I order a lot from Walmart. I think that was the work of the person on Facebook Marketplace. That tip that will be charged separately probably goes back to that FM person too.
The quantity of the box of coffee plus the one bottle of gatorade falls below the $35 minimum order for free shipping.

That sucks, Denise! I would be fighting it also! Thanks for the heads up. I try to watch that everything is for pickup, but I don't know if I would have caught it if I was having everything shipped to me. Since you spend that much on orders, do you have Walmart+ ? I wonder if that would make a difference?

Yes, I have Walmart +, paid $99 ish for the year to get free shipping. AFA the $10 FedEx tip, one of the reps told me that she will take that "automatic" tip off my account.
So the tip was generated by Walmart. I was hoping to find someone in the groups that does sell through Walmart to see what the deal is.
I haven't been watching all of my credit charges in the past, but did see the $10 tips now and then. I usually tip the Door Dash person myself in cash, but sometimes add the tip to my bill.
I can't wait to see my CC statement next month.

I get orders from Walmart every week or so. I buy all my boxed and canned goods, OTC meds, etc. from them delivered to my door. I usually just order from my favorites that are all shown to me across the page, as I reorder many of the same items most of the time. You need to be sure, as Kritter said, that you aren't ordering anything from individual sellers.
What I do before I look through items I searched for, is go over to the left column breakdown and make sure that I check off Walmart as the Retailer. They will have marketplace and individual sellers listed there too. Just be sure you check off Walmart ONLY as your retailer that you want to see products/prices from. That way you avoid the crazy prices from the independent sellers that bog the pages down. And many, not all, independent sellers charge shipping even if you are over 35.00 because it's coming directly from them.
I hate the new website too, it's taken me awhile to get used to it. And I notice that things are available in my cart but when I get to checkout, they switch to pickup only. Then I need to go back and eliminate them, and if that brings me under 35.00 I need to revise my order. It's been hard lately to get everything I want in my orders.
My orders also come in several different boxes, several different days, and several different carriers.

That is what I do too.
I also do that on Amazon too. I only want to see items that are shipped by Amazon and not some random person selling there.

I recently ordered a vacuum cleaner from Walmart that said "free shipping" and only paid item price plus sales tax. It looks like Walmart+ says free shipping is only available on eligible items that say "shipping by Walmart" and excludes third party items. You're supposed to see extra charges on the order total. www.walmart.com/plus/wplus-free-shipping

Thanks. I missed that left-hand thing. Silly me for thinking that Gatorade and coffee comes from Walmart??? I was told that they came from the Walmart warehouse, so they aren't from MP. So that doesn't justify Walmart's extra fee.
I can see maybe the Misc stuff, although I always did find the day planners and small calendars from the store.

So this is weird...I have NO left-hand anything. When I go to the grocery shopping site, all I see are grocery items. At the top my local store is checked.
Will have to be super-careful from now on.

I think the items were “on Walmart but sold by other sellers” and yes, FedEx and UPS just started adding their holiday fees onto shipping costs. Not sure if that is what is going on.

If you want it delivered and it's not fresh food stuff, don't go to the grocery shopping site to make your order easier if you're placing a large order, so it's not all mix and match like you got. All my orders come within 2-3 days if the items are in stock at their warehouses. Go to the main website walmart.com www.walmart.com/Type coffee pods into the search bar on top and click the search icon, up comes a new page with coffees. Scroll down a bit and you will see little blocks across the page. Click on the block ALL FILTERS Once you click ALL FILTERS up comes the left side-bar filter Scroll down the filter list and click the down arrow next to RETAILER Up will come 3-4 blocks: Walmart, Pro Sellers, Marketplace, etc Check off the box before WALMART Now you will get only items being sold/delivered by Walmart When I am buying dry groceries in my order, I'm buying them from the walmart.com site, I don't go to the grocery site - that messes my whole order up. I noticed a few times I accidently got into the grocery store site and had to go back.

Now that I think about it, I did have one order from Walmart delivered by a local service, but I was warned at checkout and told to enter a tip amount. The delivery person was really nice and a girl, and I felt sorry for her having to lug the very heavy cubical units upstairs, so when I got the delivered notice, I was able to go in and increase her tip. But that's the only time I've been charged for delivery on WM and asked to pay a tip.

What I don't like is that Walmart automatically added a $10 FedEx tip without my consent. I realize that the 2 ounce envelope was a big load, but.....

That would be Door Dash here in San Antonio. I was having good luck with them until there was an issue a couple of weeks ago. Now I either pick up at the store if local delivery is indicated or I request shipping and bump my order up to $35 which is never a problem for me. I always make sure the indicated retailer is Walmart like Desire pointed out.

denise15601 It's not that bad once you get used to it. I just do it naturally now both on Walmart and Amazon.

Yeah, once you get used to it, you do the motions automatically. I just placed an order this morning. I buy the Progresso Soup cans from them, they are only 1.68 as opposed to our grocery store where they are 3.59, so it's a big savings if ordering 6-8 cans at a time. I hate that soup but DH has a can every day for lunch with saltine crackers. Those are also half the price of my grocery store for the Nabisco brand. I buy them in the 6-sleeve larger size boxes.
Our nearest Walmart is at least 45 minutes away from us, need to get on the highway that this always bogged down with traffic too, making it longer. So the online ordering works out well for us. I just can't lug heavy cans/heavy detergent containers, etc., any longer from the grocery store when I do grocery shopping. So now I just purchase dairy, meat, frozen, and fresh baked goods when I go for groceries. Makes it a lot easier. Target has some good grocery deals too, so I order from them sometimes after checking prices.
