Good morning everyone! Hard to believe it's already November 1st. Temps are dropping, trees will be shedding leaves like crazy and might see our first flurries this week. Daylight savings will end and it will be dark even earlier. Just the "blah" time until we transition into winter. Hope everyone has an enjoyable, drama free day today!

If you haven't started your Christmas shopping yet, you might want to start. I was shopping over the weekend and seeing a lot of "shipping by" with dates ranging from Nov 15 2021 to March 2 2022. This was on multiple websites. It's mostly clothing but I also encountered in on kitchen gift items. I was eyeing some Christmas tees, one retailer won't ship until Nov 15, another not until Nov 22. Which significantly shortens the wearing season this year, assuming they even ship on time. I ordered one top on 9/22 that was supposed to ship 10/2, reasonable enough. I canceled the order when it kept getting extended and it's now not shipping until Nov 10. OTOH if you plan on giving pajamas as gifts, you're in luck. Some retailers, that's about all they have in stock in the stores right now.

They must have unloaded the pajama cargo ship last month. The rest are still waiting.

At least you can stay warm and snuggly while waiting for the other stuff to show up.

Omg you guys Halloween was SO FUN!! There were so many kids out it was literally like a carnival. And the costumes were GREAT!! There was a Bob Ross, A man in the yellow hat from Curious George, a blow up chicken, some really sophisticated scarecrows, a bunch more. I almost ran out of candy and I bought tons. (I almost had to hit my personal stash ) I had a couple of technical difficulties, my light up mask crapped out just as it got dark and apparently the LED light went out in my swirling ghost light. But we had some mad science stuff and blinking balloons and a dog walking zombie, coffin bride, etc. And the weather was great so it was just perfect. I was a little jealous that the other side of the street got the sidewalk in and I know people prefer to walk on that but we still had so many kids and they loved our stuff. I need to up my game next year, the neighbors across the street had a bubble machine. I need something for before it gets dark, when the little ones start.
And now it's already Nov 1st! Crazy how that works lol. I have started my Christmas shopping but I'm having issues with the kids giving me suggestions, I guess they will all get gift cards. I hate shopping last minute in a regular year never mind the shortages, delays, etc of this year.
Ugh as fun as Halloween is I am a little stiff today from getting everything down and put back in the attic. Usually I don't try to rush it but I have got to do a photo session Saturday and I had to take care of it and get it out of the way. I want to photo enough to get me past Christmas so it will be an ibuprofen day for sure.
Just curious, does anyone else call all nightwear Pajamas? I actually wear nightgowns (currently women-of-a-certain-age sweat wicking gowns) but I have been in the habit for years of calling everything pajamas. I don't think I've worn actual pjs, the pants and tops kind, since I was a kid. I like my legs free lol.

I call everything 'pajamas' *the tops and bottoms set, I mean - the term is traditionally actually a catch-all for casual/loungewear/sleepwear so I go with that. If they're lounge style I add 'lounge'. Got these cool espresso cups from DeLonghi - this one has my favourite coffee drink, a doppio (2 shots). They're double-walled, yet light as feathers.

I consider pajamas (or jammies) to have legs. Either a two piece set, top and bottom, or a one piece (although technically I think the adult one piece is a union suit). Nightgowns or night shirts don't have legs, they're dress-like. But regardless of whatever anyone else calls it all, I can usually figure out what they're talking about Simon has turned into a really good jumper, better than Trixie or Toby. Toby is curled up in the round sleep bed by one end of my desk. Simon wanted up on the desk but he didn't want to land on Toby so he basically jumped from the ground, over the raised cat bed containing Toby, onto the desk top. However, this time he didn't realize I had some papers on the spot where he landed and he couldn't get any traction and the momentum of the jump had him sliding off the other side of the desk. Toby looked at him like "what a dork!" and I'm still snickering.

A family that I know from our Cancer Clubhouse decorated their house amazingly (lots of huge skeletons, etc) and were front-page news. They raised $125,000 for St. Judes. They raised half, and Home Depot doubled it.
They are just that kind of special family...The mom had a surrogate baby for a gay couple, and then a few months ago, she donated a kidney to someone in need.
Edited to add....The total is now $145,000!!!

If we do Christmas it will be for new iPads. I don’t think we need them but hubby is bending my ear. Just got new iPhones so that should cover it. Will have to see.

I only have a few people to get gifts for and I shopped all year as I found things. I'm good to go. I even bought the last of my Christmas decorations this past weekend (which was a good thing as the stores were already out of some decorations).

Simon the Scamp (or Simon the Stinker, depending on what he did) has a new game. It's called "let's use the hooman as a toy!" He gets up on the back of the futon, then climbs down on me (like a ramp) to get in my lap. Last night he decided he would also run around me while on the futon, hop over me and on me, and hide a toy behind my back so he burrow and find it. There's never a dull moment when he's awake

The thought of giving birth an extra time is frightening lol. Of course I am past the baby years, but I wouldn't have been able to do it even in my prime.
We are warming up but expecting cooler weather Wed evening with a cold front coming in. I hope it's not too hot on Thanksgiving. I haven't heard back from DIL on their Thanksgiving plans and I was hoping to get my turkey at Aldi's this weekend. They have Butterball on sale. I bought a Kroger turkey last year and it came out tough. That is the second time in the last 5 years. I've been cooking turkeys for 30+ years so I don't think it's me, I definitely know how to roast a turkey. I hope there's not a shortage and I can get a Butterball, we were really disappointed last year and turkey is DH favorite meal. BTW we got him a haircut yesterday and he agreed to keep the mowhawk
Our anniversary is next Thursday, 32 years! I can't believe it's been that long. We've been together more than half our lives. We don't usually make a big deal. Probably pick up some Mexican food and margaritas on Sunday then take a nap then watch a movie lol.

Love the darker border, Val, and fall leaves!
LOL @ jesmelric. Lows are already in the 30s and highs in the 40s here, though we're supposed to have a brief warm up in the low 60s next week. The odds of it being warm on Thanksgiving, other than in the kitchen, is pretty slim. One of my favorite Thanksgivings was in the early 80s leaving Cleveland with about 3 feet of snow and bitter cold to spend it with my best friend and her husband down in Georgia. It was 75 degrees, sunny and first time I was ever outside that late in short sleeves. Pre-congrats on 32 year anniversary!

Thanks Jes...I met the family when they helped as volunteers at the Cancer Clubhouse. So the parents and 2 children helped at a lot of our events. Suzanne's first husband died of cancer, so that was her way of giving back. The kids are amazing, too. They just posted this...

I allow this nonsense 3 times, then the toy goes away!

I got to walk a dog for the first time in years this evening. My running friend had his own dog (a cute little Westie mix named Dickens) and a large, burly "doodle" named Banksy which was one of his client's dogs which was boarding with him. I took Banksy because Dickens wants to beat up every dog he meets, for some reason, and needs the right touch. Banksy is VERY strong, and he likes to sniff and claim everything - he is in a harness so I'm not too worried about yanking at him, but OMG, he abruptly stops from a run and nearly pulls me off my feet, and I am neither light, nor am I weak. He's a bit smaller size than a German Shepard, and compact and thick, so I expect he's also heavier than he looks. He also spun me around a couple of times - I decided he knew he was being walked by a novice so was testing me. We had a slight struggle for dominance and finally Banksy good naturedly gave in and just trotted along normally. It was nice and I told my friend I'd walk one of his client dogs any time.
Unfortunately, he probably will have to put his old poodle to sleep and was almost in tears when he was telling me about it - he loves that poodle but the poor thing just lies in his bed on his pee pad and in the last few days lost the ability to walk. He's never had to put one of his animals to sleep (he has always had multiple animals) and I gave him what I hope were some helpful tips from when I went through this a few years ago. It's uppermost in my mind because I see the time coming with Jamie Leafy Butt. He's 100% for doing what is best for Duncan, and is very gifted with animals, like a St. Francis of everyday people, so I know his instincts will be exactly right.
We walked the two dogs then tucked them into his car and went for another several miles on our own. I haven't quite recovered from Hell Week and slept 11 hours last night and was still tired, but somehow managed - I think the experience has thrown some more fitness into me, and man, I need it. I can't keep up with my friends in any way, shape or form, and the whole thing with running and bike riding is that it's a social activity.

One thing about walking or running with a dog is they will keep you motivated. Some days where I go half a mile and feel like giving up my walk, my dog will get me up that hill to the point I feel like walking.
Taking a break today. Waiting to see if my booster affects me. Plus my foot is at about an 8 until I get going.

I'm number one! Stopped at a small shopping plaza and saw empty spaces to pull through so I slowly started in when I noticed the old phart in a big old car on my left next to the space I wanted starting to back out so I stopped giving him plenty of room. He swung short and the front end was in the spot I wanted but I patiently waited while he slowly backed out (he could also have gone past me as the parking spot to my left was empty). A large SUV came up from the other side so he was blocking her, too. For whatever reason, he decided to stop, look at me and mouth something, then point at me and give me the finger when I did absolutely nothing to provoke him. I just got a quizzical look as he triumphantly sped off, the lady in the SUV and I just looked at each other with a, "What was his problem?" look.
It did put a smile on my face how ridiculous he looked giving the finger. I think the older you get, the more juvenile the gesture looks.

Aww...poor fragile little thing - he can't drive so it's your fault!
It IS a really juvenile gesture. Once when I was a courier some old guy was struggling to drive his far too big and new truck into the right lane for a turn. I was behind him and just gave him lots of room to move, then pulled up next to him in the through land, and for that he gave me the finger. Gave it to me with ALL OF HIS MIGHT! Bouncing his hand, glaring and looking meaningful. It looked so ridiculous that I just looked at him like "huh?"...then the people he was holding up with his performance rage started beeping at him to get moving, so he had to. The light changed I went through, and just glanced down the side street. He was pulled over, still shaking his finger. I almost yelled "Is it stuck?" But I had to keep moving.

I don't mind missing the pumpkin spice stuff. I'm waiting for the cranberry bliss bars to appear at Starbucks. I think they're due in this weekend. And the cranberry sausages at HEB, they're due sometime this month too.

I'm not sure how it is in your region, but here whomever makes SB's cranberry bliss bars just completely screwed them up a few years back and they've never been the same. Instead of tart-sweet with a bit of crisp on the base and kind of cream cheese cranberry frosting, they're this sugary nasty gloppy mess with cheap sort of frosting stuff, and you can barely taste cranberries. It was the only thing I actually go to Starbucks for this time of year (that and their 8 grain rolls, which sell out immediately, but which they ration like they're gold or something) - for the price they charge they need to up the quality.

I had some bars last year and didn't notice any difference. Maybe they're made in regions, like GS cookies, so yours were made somewhere else besides where I was buying them last year?

It's hot here, as in 91 degrees hot today. I'm ready for 70's temps but they're not showing up in the 7 day forecast. Want to wear boots and sweaters! Bought some International Delights pumpkin creamer and it's just awful. The artificial cinnamon flavor is over the top and over powers any pumpkin flavor there might be. I've tried mixing it with other flavors to use it up and even that is yucky. Need to cut my losses and dump it down the drain. I know Starbucks makes one too but it costs more and not sure I'd like that one either.
